Hi - newly arrived (would that be noobly-arrived?) here in SL. Does anyone have suggestions on good places to, um, change clothes? I've been trying to find quiet places where I won't shock the locals, but I'd hate to startle someone!

Do a search for NCI. They have changing booths for noobs. You just teleport up to them.
You can also search for the forum cartel hangout. Changing booths are located there. When I was new I found a giant zeppelin that hung in the sky with no one ever around. I would always go inside of that and change. There's plenty of empty areas in SL. |

I have a couple changing rooms at my store (in the kids section)
very little traffic so no worries about ppl bugging you the rooms have posing stands and I plan to put in full length mirrors as well (the ones with the poseball that gives the illusion of looking in a mirror, when all it does is change your camera perspective) handy though for folks who are not used to zooming around to look at themselves. _____________________

Welcome to the forums, Maureen!
![]() You don't really ever need to be nude. Just right click on an item you wish to wear in your inventory, and choose 'wear' from the drop down. It will replace the same type of item (ex. Pants) instantly. Or, you can 'wear' a jacket (layer), then take off your shirt, etc. You can also go down to the bottom of the ocean if you want a little privacy. _____________________

Just a FYI you don't have to take off your clothes to change outfits ![]() ![]() But if that isn't comfortable for you, let me know I am sure I can put together a "dressing room" of sorts hehe ![]() _____________________

In addition to the one mentioned above, the Hanson Infohub has a tp to some changing rooms.
The other thing you can do is just go to what you want to wear and double click on it. It will replace what you are wearing without leaving you naked. If you want, you can create a new folder with entire outfits in it and then drag the file from your inventory onto your avatar and it will change everything at once. be aware, however, that this will remove everything it doesn't change, so your hair, huds, shoes, etc. will go unless there are others in the folder. If you forget to put hair in the folder, you'll end up bald, but wearing a nice new outfit. If you ever get into non-human avatars with lots of prim bits, the folder method is really the only way to do it because there are just too many attachments. It's good to learn this method if you decide it would be fun to be a robot or a dragon or something (it IS fun). _____________________

Do a search for The Lair Changing Room. It's a lovely sky box and usually pretty empty. I used to use it a lot when I first got here, before I bought my land. Owned by someone who allows people to use it freely. Sometimes people are there, but there are 2 areas to use. If you want privacy, just come back a bit later and most times you can wind up being alone at some point. It really looks like a beautiful changing area, with couches, a firepit, vanity table, etc. Very nice for relaxing and taking your time.

If you want, you can create a new folder with entire outfits in it and then drag the file from your inventory onto your avatar just wanted to point out that you can also right click on the folder and choose replace outfit to remove everything on your avatar and put the stuff in the folder on the avatar.... or you can choose add to outfit which will remove only the items that are in the same spots as the ones in the folder (handy for trying on different shoes or outfits without removing everything) this way you do not have to drag it (some folks such as myself are not comfortable dragging full folders) heh _____________________

If you forget to put hair in the folder, you'll end up bald, but wearing a nice new outfit. The other option that I usually do is right click on the folder and choose Add To Outfit. It will exchange any items that you're wearing with those that are in the folder but leave everything else (such as your hair) alone. I usually have shoes and jewelery and such that I then need to change after, but it's only a few pieces here and there. I find this the best method for me to change in public because I never have to worry about ending up bald. |

No! You can't just change clothes anywhere. It will, umm ... let' see, revert back to newbie clothes, yeah, that's it.
Send me an IM, and I'll take you to my island. Very private. We can change clothes there. Did I say "we" I ment, you, of course. You need to be standing on a blue pose ball for everything to work right. I have several we could try ... JUST KIDDING !!!!! In all seriousness, once you get away from orientation island and help island, you will either find crowds or empty areas. Not much in between. Nat's Newbie Paradise -- small but has some good stuff including lm (landmarks) to other newbie and frebie places. I have never seen anyone in the changing room area. Free Dove -- Lot's of Freebies. Some changing rooms, always a crowd ![]() Sara Nerd's -- Great selection of free stuff. There is a dice game there called Greedy, Greedy. I love that game. Anyway, you need 2 or more to play and the winner gets 15L$ Do a search All for Forum Cartel. The top one listed is the hangout. There are some new resident packages there. Also some changing rooms but you need to be a member to use the teleport -- unles they changed it. The second item on the list is the group. It's free to join. Ask questions in the group chat, we don't mind. The third thing listed is the personal profile of some pervert. Don't listen to a thing he says ![]() And finally, there this The Shelter. Another great group of newbie friendly people. I can't believe no one has mentioned them yet. |

I am trying desperately to never look at them again, unless I need them for Halloween or something. A private island, you say? surrounded by water? Others have told me that a good place to change is underwater, so perhaps I will do so and then take a peek at your island! ![]() Many thanks for the suggestions. And I will do a search for the Forum Cartel, the group, and this Shelter you speak of. |
