Since in the Mainland many or most (or all?) sims have Linden "Protected Land" owned either by the Gov, Maintenance, or the LDPW that never contains their maximum allotment, i kinda doubt sims would fill up to the point you can't rez anything..

It can happen, or it used to happen occasionally in my experience.

Someone abandons land to the ownership of the Gov.
Build is on and autoreturn is 0.
The prims available are the total for all parcels owned by the Gov in the sim
Someone rezzes prims on the 'abandoned' parcel to fill up (the Governor's) prim allocation.

I've fallen from the sky twice in the past because of that.

Full sims are rare as hen's teeth. Full parcels, on the other hand, can be a pain. All I'm saying, is don't fly over the little volcano in Da Boom. ;-)

Sweet I may have to look into using Megas and launching Phoenix 3 and 4, my low prim yachts I have been building. Both 37 meters long. Phoenix 1 was a catamaran I abandoned because I ran out of prim between the two 7 prim hulls and the main deck, in the end I had only enough prim for 2 people and no seats anywhere. ....

Check out how some of the high prim vehicles are made. The "vehicle" part is bare bones...just the pilot's seat and the passengers'. The pilot/driver/skipper rezzes this and sits on it. Then she wears the rest of the vehicle as an attachment.

Wouldnt that be beautiful to see? A nice group of hot air balloons floating about.

OK...that DOES sound like fun. Let's do it.

I'll volunteer my sim as the launch point. We'll need a DJ for some tunes, and to keep any non-fliers entertained. Any volunteers?

What's a good day for the First Annual Lebettu Balloon Festival? Maybe Nov 2?

I have walked the perimeter of the southern continent (Jugeot) on the Linden Roads, and in my mer form I have swum from Brythony down the Winterfell and to the southern end of Caledon.

My boyfriend and I have sailed around a couple of the continents. Ban lines and full parcels are the worst enemies to vehicles, but on foot or as a mermaid it's a lot of fun to travel that far.

OK...Saturday, Nov 8? How's that?

We need balloons...at least 5, I should think. IM or PM me if you want to participate.
As soon as we have enough to make a Festival of it, I'll post it in Events

Even if there are 15,000 prims in a sim, there's another 1,500 prims available for avatars, vehicles, and things like temp-rezzers. That prim overhead has been there from the start.

You have not fallen out of the sky because the sim was full.

You have fallen from the sky because of a bug in the way that different code paths in the sim account for prims.

So many trips described in this thread! So many places!

Is there a large scale map anywhere of SL and its continents?

Aside from the map feature inworld, I'd look for Carl Metropolitan's map kiosks. Best maps of the continents to be found. I keep the Heterocera Atoll and Sansara one rezzed in my workshop
