From: Crunch Underwood it's been a long time but i used to sail the mainland waterways in a hobo raft, you could literally spend hours and hours just going up and down, trying new pathways. the waterfalls are a pain when you come across those tho. lots of fond memories of doing that, might have to revisit it this weekend.
also driven the highways a bit and obviously done some airshipping. but with the sim crossings they just don't seem to last as long as the raft. Shameless sorta plug. There's a kayak available on the north edge of Livingtree. It's great for slow trips along long waterways. Has great sound, animations, and movement, plus comes with life vest and other goods. The hobo raft cost less and carries more people, though. Either way it makes for a nice trip. From: someone any chance i could get a link to the map for the kessel run? I'l try to remember to drop one on you inworld, or drop me a note. Mari

I used to travel the regions around Nuttall by boat when I lived there, and frequently made the short hop from Nuttall to Elibia by boat or airship. Later I moved back to region and would sail the extensive canals for fun. I think I once managed to cover all of the Northern continent, North to South, through the ANWR corridor and a good way south across the old continent by airship. Eventually my luck ran out and a sim crossing crashed me. It was a bit of an excercise more than a real journey, because I was flying too high to see anything but the odd skybox.
I once hiked the east coast of the old continent, starting at the southern tip in Iridium. I think I made it about 80% of the way up that coast to around Bleaberry where all the inlets get too difficult to navigate on foot. I'd set myself the limits of not flying, and not crossing water unless there was a bridge. I'd occasionally allow a short flight when banlines forced me to detour more than 1 sim inland. It was a fun challenge and I got to see some great scenery and terrific builds I might otherwise have missed.

I've circumnavigated all the land masses in the West and centre of Corsica. The longest trip in that was about 60 sims or so. I haven't had time to circumnavigate the Eastern block of Corsica since that continent was completed. I (very modestly) take credit for keeping the Eastern route open by warning LL of two corners in which passage would have been been be blocked by what had been cut as resident-owned land in the sims ready for auction.
I've driven a big truck from Hooper in the West of Sansara right over to the to the Hidden Lakes region in the East and then right down to the South. That was getting on for 100 sims without a crash and took an afternoon to complete.
I've sailed right along the coastline of the Korean channel. That area is fun for flying too. You can dodge the chunks of lava coming from the eruptions in the Ichelus Island volcano.
I've sailed for Corsica down into Nautilus. I'll have to do that again and drop in to the new Gov Linden Castle Valeria island that has been added to the sims connecting Corsica and Nautilus.
After I got my First Land (roadside) in Skegemog, I used that as a base to tour a lot of Sansara on a motorbike. I couldn't cover many sims then because that was in the bad old days of really poor sim-crossings.
Touring like that is a great way to see peoples' builds. People who just use search and TP miss out on a great experience.

I try to be as unobtrusive as possible over occupied areas, but I like flying low and slow over empty sims and looking at all the buildings. it's also fun skimming the deck at speed, along roads or on the water.

You've done some serious exploring! I jes checked that an Mos Ainsley out this last weekend. Nice builds. I liked the interactivity of the latter, an wished for more in the former. I tink they did miss out on one opportunity with the spaceport: They could have made a space port in the sky, as opposed to staying ground-based! A Linden space port around 3500-4000m would be great! 'course, Aley already did the best works when it comes to space... From: someone Touring like that is a great way to see peoples' builds. People who just use search and TP miss out on a great experience. 'tis true. It's almost like the issue of "flyover" states in the U.S. You might have a lot of nothing in spots, but you'll also miss some real gems if you don't take a look. From: Brenda Connolly I try to be as unobtrusive as possible over occupied areas, but I like flying low and slow over empty sims and looking at all the buildings. it's also fun skimming the deck at speed, along roads or on the water I've done this a bit too. I try to not get into peoples' private spaces, but in public locations like the Welcome Areas, riding low can be fun. Same with skiumming the water and riding low over roadways. That's a bit harder to do with the blimp. Mari

I know Cubey has a reputation for building good stuff, so I figured for L$400 I couldn't go wrong. Here's a pic of the maiden voyage in my Terra Wind Rider. It works really well in both Drift (wind driven) and Navigation mode. No problems at all with sim crossing. At one point I set the altitude to 300m and the speed to 10 (max) and left it go while I went outside for a smoke. It was still happily flying when I returned. My boss is still wondering why I didn't get anything done this afternoon.

I used to fly new folks around quite a lot - one time I flew from Luna out by Da Boom to my old land in Bouraq, across a couple of void sims, too. I also had an embarassing moment when flying some folks around Help Island. I had gotten too near the edge of the sim, you see. When you sim cross from a Prelude HI, you enter Orientation Island. And Orientation Island is no script. Oops, down goes my balloon. Embarassing

I've done several road trips in Sansara and Heterocera. For these trips I use a Terra Raptor (my fave, got it at Bay City) or my Dominus Shadow for driving and for the waterways my SW-150 Speedboat. I've avoided flying a lot due to banlines or banned parcels. I've gone from Noyo to Ambleside, then south toward the Snowlands and back towards Nova Albion by passing through the Vehicle sims and then heading towards Bay City. I usually drive in the Terra Raptor since it handles sim crossings better than the Dominus. With the speedboat I've traveled most of the waterways in Sansara. The first time I started at Rodeo then made my way towards the Linden Village then south towards the lake where the Teen Grid Transfer Station is then further south where the other two lakes are. I traveled by boat towards Heterocera but I forgot where I started. Some of those waterway trips I also do underwater, Sea Elf style Starting from Cecropia I drove toward Calleta and drove through the SLRR train-tracks in my Terra Raptor all the way toward the end at Bhaga, then by water-plane towards Cecropia again. I've recently traveled most of Routes 1 and 2 until I ran out of road and in Gaeta Route 7 until I ran out of road again. I've come to see many interesting builds when I take these trips and gives me some sort of perspective. Lot of the areas of the Mainland (specially older sims) aren't as garish as most of us complain about

From: Brenda Connolly Nice pic. What a lovely target that would make. Dang it! I knew I should have splurged and bought the bullet proof version. But really Brenda, that's the kind of comment I would expect from a Texan.

That count? Don't worry. I'll add yours and Mari's ship to my friendlies file in my target recognition database.

From: Marianne McCann So.. who travels the mainland? What are your longest runs? I've been doing some blimping around lately. Looks like you cover a lot of ground. Nice Blimps! Could I trouble you for info of where you got your blimp/blimps? I have been looking for a really good one and haven't had much luck. Thanks

My alt (who never posts, the lazy dweeb) has a sort of Captain Nemo submarine / boat / airplane thing he likes to fly 50-100 meters or so over Caledon or the Fatima Isles. He figures he's part of the ambience and it's okay to be visible to any residents on line there. I mean, I'd like to walk out my door and see it. Mainland is more problematic. He's never made a trip as long as any posted above due to ban lines unseen until too late or sudden Object entry restrictions. Maybe he should fly a little higher, but that's like real flying. Not much to see. I don't know which is better, flying or horseback riding. Neither of us has tried sailing.

Maybe he should fly a little higher, but that's like real flying. Not much to see. Following roads and waterways is often a safe way to go. The areas around Abbotts/Cowell/Rodeo and across the water across to Clementina is ban line free and pretty smooth. In the above routes in my OP, you only have to atch for a ban line in Lusk (easily avoided) and in Tan (a bit harder, but look for the house with the white roof, and avoid it). From: Dilbert Dilweg Could I trouble you for info of where you got your blimp/blimps? I have been looking for a really good one and haven't had much luck. it's from Cubey Terra. Go to Abbotts (I'm not sure if it is also in his Bay City store, but I would not be surprised) and head to the blimp landing. You'll find it there. Also, you can demo it there too. Mari (Who is not associated with Terra aside form being a customer)

<3 my Windrider. You can just drift along, without fear of crashing (which, when I'm at the flight controls of an aircraft, is usually and everpresent danger)

Once in a while I will go on an exploratory trip on the mainland. I usually start at the southern end and work my way up to the northern end and then I'd shift one sim to the right and head south. It feels good to just find something by wandering into it than by finding it in the search menu and teleporting to it.

I can never seem to fly for more than a few minutes before I run into a sim that ejects me, banlines, bad sim crossings. Where do you go to fly?

Well, I drifted for quite awhile. A balloon is the way to go. I got stopped twice: Once by a sim that was full. Again with "Expired Region-Handoff". But drifting and looking at all the places go slowly by is really awesome.
