I also had an embarassing moment when flying some folks around Help Island. I had gotten too near the edge of the sim, you see. When you sim cross from a Prelude HI, you enter Orientation Island. And Orientation Island is no script. Oops, down goes my balloon. Embarassing :(
No-script should not apply to vehicles. If it does that's a bug and should be JIRAed.

No-script should also not apply over 100 meters, but there's places where it seems to, and I've JIRA-ed a couple of them.

I've boated around almost all of Sansarya and the Atoll in one trip before. Starting in the dam/waterfall locked lake at Pandora, following the linden rivers west through Io to the coast, turned south and went completely around Sansarya winding up at the north end. Turned north and crossed to Heterocera, rounded that by river a little bit inland, then cut across west to east to the big lagoon and then straight south out of the Atoll and back to Sansarya. Turned east and cut inland a bit, passed waterhead and then south, hitting all of the major inland lakes on the east side. At the bottom, headed west on the tiny river through the snow sims, then north up around Tethys where the little waterfall there finally crashed me... 2 sims away from Pandora where I started nearly 10 hours earlier

Thanks Nimue. I think that might be where I spend this weeks stipend. :)

I have a Terra Wind Rider too. It was given to me last Christmas. It's probably the best vehichle I have. (And I have quite a few) Fun to use alone or with others and pretty smooth on the sim crossings. The one problem is that it moves pretty slow, so those inconsiderate people that have security orbs set at under 60 seconds often catch me as I am floating by.

I spent a summer in Texas. That count?

By the powers vested in me by my own imagination, I hereby proclaim Brenda Connolly an honorary Texan.

This honorary citizenship (along with 5 bucks) will get you a cold Lone Star anywhere in the state, and also entitles you to pronounce 4 letter words like they have 3 syllables.

Congratulations!

I'm right honored , sir. Let's hope I fair better than another Texan named Connolly did about 45 years ago.

Been a while since I had a Lone Star.

It was nice too see it from the air. I got thrown over the cove though, and was stuck underwater, so I logged for the night. I'm going to try the Aboot's to Bay City run in a few minutes.

I miss taking those kind of trip's. Before the day's of wind light. Now I can't put my view distance past 96m without lagging to the max.

I'm going to try the Abbott's to Bay City run in a few minutes.

Best of luck!

Here's my suggested route, and then some. Maybe this'll give folks some ideas.

Start from the runway in Abbotts, and follow the automated flights out towards Cowell. You'll go over the beautiful seaport village in Cowell, May even be enough space to scoot next to Salazar's lighthouse home. Continue into Noyo, and head north. Look for the mountain pass with the broken aqueduct. You may need to prepare for inclement weather through here, though, cuz of the regular thunderstorms. Stay low to avoid lighting strikes.

Turn to your left and continue due west, past the tall black tower and heading into Stintson, then over water into Rosedale. You can go North over the waterways (careful around Da Boom, though. The volcano there is highly dangerous to air travel (it is a full parcel), or continue west over the vehicle sims.

Either way, you'll want to make your way into Oak Grove. It's windy near the canyons, but quite scenic.

Continuing north, you should start to see the Ahern Welcome Area. Stick to the west side of the hub and head for the start of Route 66 in Dore. There's an obelisk there that can help you find the way. Watch for curious folks from the Welcome Area trying to board your copter. An eject can be useful here -- an kinda fun if you keep em f'r a bit an drop 'em into a channel in one of the upcomin' sims.

Continuing on Route 66 from the air, you'll hit Nova Albion. Watch out for Mr. Fonzarelli's big tower. The infohub is at the brick bridge below, jes past it. Again, watch for curious boarders. Continue from there into Barcola on the north end of town, again following the road, and head for North Channel.

Travel advisory: Barcola has seemed a bit, um, rough the last couple of days, and might need a restart. I had some trouble with the blimp there last night, too. If you want to detour around it, head north from Mr. Fonzarelli's place and into the Straits of Shermeville, then either head south to North Channel, or go straight over to Moose Beach and beyond.

From North Channel, you'll pass the asylum, then enter Bay City proper. Route 66 will take you all the way down the main drag: take a right at Docklands to get to the airship mooring (which has a handy rezzing area out front) or head left at the last opportunity in Docklands to enter Imaginario. My store is right down there, before the bridge and behind the big, kinda ugly unfinished place (shameless plug).

While I'm here, the way to continue the trip.

Head back towards the Ahern Welcome Area. Head south around the Welcome Area into Morris, then over the hedge maze in Rizal. Excellent area to "release" unwanted company there. Turn into Lusk near the far end of the sim (there are some ban lines and such in the west end of Lusk) the continue into Perry, heading Northward to Kissling and Boardman. Stay over the channel in Kissling and across Jean and Harald Nomad's dock., but you will need to turn into boardman at some point. Stay to the west side of boardman into Tan (Welcome to the color sims!), over the beach-looking plot below. Avoid crossing over the home with the white roof -- it is ban lined. Also watch for the big tower ahead - make your turn over Galaxy Mall.

The next sim is Plum. The three walled item down below is the beta users appreciation memorial. The rest of the sim is sandbox and the old Ahern welcome area. Heading West will take you to Gray. This is an airport and mooring. A good place to refuel if needed.

Still feel adventurous?

Head out from Gray and head north towards Mauve. More sandbox and welcome area goodness awaits, but Mauve is pretty quiet all in all. Turn East from the infohub into Mocha. You'll see the Mocha Cathedral below, as well as a large pyramid, then after crossing into the next sim, the big McLean horse ranch. The rails to the north are the ol' GSLR right of way. Continue into "Etheral" Slate, now owned by Jopsy Pendragon and the sister sim to Teal. Head out over water in Aitch, then into the next sim. Avoid going north from Aitch unless you really like ban lines.

Follow the next sim from Aitch (I don't recall the name) and head into Purple. Follow the rails in purple as much as you can, and head out by the lighthouse over open water. Go due north, past the oil derrick in ANWR and head for Cecrotopia. You can set down at the dock there, or continue on, following the GSLR and SLRR tracks past Caletta and beyond.

I recommend a slow vehicle, so you can really take in the area. There truly is a lot to see on the ground along this route, both in terms of SL history as well as just neat places.

That's my drawback as well. Sometimes I can nudge it up to 128, but that's about it.

Thanks for the route Mar. I'm going to print it out and plot my course before I go. And say hi to your Dad, I haven't spoken to him in quite some time.

Seems like several of us now have the Wind Rider. We may have to try a group flight at some point in the future. Should make for some good pictures if nothing else.

I swear, I tink I've sold a bajillion windriders f'r Cubey, without even tryin. I promise to only use this power f'r good.

I know that one person has been talkin f'r some time of a balloon parade for Yuletime. I dun wanna steal her thunder (especially given that there's a Halloween/Day of the Dead parade to do first!), but that's only a couple months, and gives us all some time to get really good at our piloting. I know I'll gladly take the Sansara up for it!

Try turning down your shaders before pulling out your draw disntance an see if that helps.

I usually run with 128m myself, but sometimes pull it up from there. If I knew a good debug setting for it, I'd prob'ly pull it out even further some time.

With the blimp, it takes me around 2 hours. I can be a slow, lazy pilot, though I don't make many pit stops. I will stop off at the moorings, though.

As to name... well, I did borrow at least some of the idea from Osprey Therian, so I can't take full credit. I'm flattered, though. :D

Maybe , depending on my schedule, I might meet up along the route with ya. :)

I've never got on with SL vehicles of any sort much, probably because I usually crash them within 50m of starting, so most of my wandering the mainland has been by walking or flying, but on the strength of this thread I went out this evening and bought a Wind Rider balloon.

First couple of flights didn't go too well, got stuck at the first or second sim crossing, but SL was playing up generally so it wasn't a very good time to try it. Tried again after a couple of hours and had a great trip.

Started from the Forest of Kahruvel, went west as far as Davenport then turned northeast until I hit the coast in Chartreuse. From there I drifted eastwards to the end of the railroad in Purple and turned north to fly over the ferry route to the northern continent (I've never been able to remember the names of the continents). There a few sim crossings that were a bit jerky, but I reckon I travelled through about 30 sims with no real problems until sadly, just after I passed the Hobo Railroad infohub, I hit a parcel that was full, the balloon disappeared and I was left drifting slowly through the sky with no visible means of support.

A really nice way to spend an hour or so, if anyone else has been tempted by this thread to go buy a balloon it's well worth it. Now just have to decide which continent to fly over next.

I'm going to have to try that route. An ya, full parcels aren't a lotta fun. I think I've hit that same one before. Good to know where they are, though!

hmmm maybe the lindens could do something about that, make it so that a sim can support say an extra 100 or so prims, you'll still get the sim full warning but be able to have those extra prims there for say, half an hour, thats plenty of time to cross a sim.

A while back, I did a walking tour of the Heterocera Atoll continent, which is where I live. Starting from my home I hiked over the ridge and then followed the Linden road and RR system all the way around. When I reached the southern edge of the continent I used my kayak to paddle through the waterways and then picked up the road again, hiking north back to my home (walking the full length of the Great Wall in the process). It took me several days; every time I logged on I would go back to the location where I had quit the day before. I took my hobo tent with me, and looked for places to set it up and pass the SL night sitting by the campfire. It was fun, and I had a great sense of accomplishment when I finally arrived back home.

So many trips described in this thread! So many places!

Is there a large scale map anywhere of SL and its continents?

I'm working on a project that lets you create your own trips and share them so anyone can travel the exact same route (and they can also add locations if you give permissions).

They do that. There is a prim surplus on the sim for vehicles, attachments, and temporary items... I believe it's about 10% extra prims. The problem is that they don't apparently have a single "can we rez this kthx" routine, so some parts of the code apply restrictions that aren't appropriate... in this case a full parcel will blow you up if you enter it from a sim edge. There's been a JIRA on this for over a year. :(

Since in the Mainland many or most (or all?) sims have Linden "Protected Land" owned either by the Gov, Maintenance, or the LDPW that never contains their maximum allotment, i kinda doubt sims would fill up to the point you can't rez anything..
