Hmph, no one will even rub my tummeh anymore unless I whine.  /me distracts the neko with a small ball filled with catnip, then rushes forward and rubs tummy. Lies on the ground bleeding and whimpering after being clawed and scratched. Reminds self to not attempt to rub kitties tummies unless they really really look like the want it rubbed, and even then to wear thick clothing/padding. _____________________

I must be terribly fugly then. I have, in almost 1 1/2 years, NEVER been sexually harassed in SL (or RL, for that matter) by ANY gender. Is it the glasses? Is it because I'm so short? Is it my erm, Rubenesque body? Is it because I like to use polysyllabic words? What am I doing wrong?

I know many of us can just ignore it, but there are members of the SL community who have various limitations on their RL interactions, either because of permanent conditions or past experiences of various uncomfortable kinds, and find SL fills social needs they have that they couldn't risk or experience in RL. Those are the people that are most fundamentally affected by SL sexual harassment, and, I have found, the ones who generally contribute the most as well!
I know as well, many users see SL as a game, but for a percentage it is not, so having places to be somewhat safe from that is very beneficial. You can't stop a naked idiot from dropping in once in a while with a giant whatever attached to him or herself saying "Let's do <THEIR VICE GOES HERE>", but many of the active social and educational regions tend to have more people with land owner perms who are more than happy to eject and ban those types, or concerned passersby who happen to have built or acquired silent ejection tools. I think extensions of, and more ubiquitous use of, validated IDs will help in this regard. Hope that helps, Wolt Amat |
