For me, the idea of being sexual with a man is utterly revolting.

Men playing women is very understandable though. QUOTE]

Ah, shit, Phil. Now you've done it. Go run, quickly, hide.

You've just made a statement many think but won't ever, ever dare state in public. I commend you for stating what you feel and not what others want to see. Rare breed in these forums, rare indeed. Almost makes me teary eyed seeing this.

But, as for men playing women, I disagree completely. This is revolting in its own way too.

I do not roleplay in SL either, QUOTE]

Yes, you do. The second you chose to enter sl you were destined to roleplay. When you made your av you were preparing to roleplay. And when you were done building her/him you had just begun to roleplay whether you know it or not or you admit it or not.

Now whether you enagage in certain acts or certain roles is another thing altogether different.

If you're in sl, you're roleplaying. Even in what are considered non roleplaying games you're still roleplaying because as I said you've created a character to represent you. It's playing you.

Semantics.

I don't hate it, but I don't define it the way you do.

Not the way I define it. It's just the way it is. But I did say enagaging in certain acts or activities is different. Victorria Paine represents you in sl. Therefore, you're engaged in roleplaying.

Besides you can always read up on its definition on the Rules and Regulations of On-line Gaming. It clearly states it there.

Then I don't agree with their definition either.

What have I learned hmmm.

Havent been here long but feel like I been here a long time lol.

How I am in RL most of it has slipped into SL.

That no matter how organized I am in RL forget it for me in SL.

That there is really no wrong answer :)

And SL has confirmed to me that you get what you make of it.

That you dont have to move out of the way when moving something... but yup I still do lol. :)

I learned that just by looking for a pair of glasses can lead to other great things.

I learned as in RL I still cant landscape, and decorating leaves me blank :)

There are tons more but I already went over my 1 thing limit hehehe

Everyone has an opinion and everyone claims their perspective is correct. After all, SecondLife didnt really exist till they appeared in-game.

Although I downloaded SL in August, I couldn't run it til January (making me relatively new), and I couldn't agree more with this quote.

I have also learned that a lot of "women" are really men lol.

And that some people take SL way too seriously (see LittleKitty post heh).

All in all, though, I have met many more nice people than not, have had good experiences with vendors on exchanges/refunds/giving items that were lost during transactions, and have had very limited experiences with griefers (one actually became a client).

SL is fun. That's the bottom line for me.

Yes, you do.

I understand what you are saying, but I look at it differently. There are people in SL who think of their avatar as just an extension of their real self. They are not role playing any more than they are when they talk on the telephone or send an email.

At the other extremem, there are people who present themselves in SL as something completely different from their real self. They, I agree are role playing. Acting, if you like.

You need to get out more, Recreant. A different crowd, get some color and different demeanor. You're much too "humble."

Why? I'm happy how I am right now.

Not to trust anyone and to stick to myself.

When I first came to SL I thought it would be a great way to meet new people and make friends, I realized quickly there are no such things as friends in SL, at least not in any traditional sense. Its a real misnomer, 'people' are either there just for the RP or they have learned the same and also stick to themselves or something, quite honestly I havent figured it out yet, but then at this point I really couldn't be bothered to care anymore. I hear of people making friends, but I think its a myth really, I have never actually seen it. 'People' think they are friends but it usually ends up in backbiting or some other bs that renders the whole concept of trying to get to know someone utterly useless and a complete waste of time. Its all very shallow and superficial in my opinion. But hey, maybe its just me :P

Everybody is friendly in SL because everybody feels safe. This can make friendship cheap. It's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, why limit ourselves to the same few people over a long period of time.

In RL friends aren't so easy to come by and so we tend to hold onto them.

My advice would be to keep moving and to just treat everybody as your friend.

Although that bastarding Instant Message mode makes it difficult to keep moving when older "friends" keep sending you messages!. For this reason I don't bother with SL friends. I just come and taunt everybody on the forums instead. :)

No matter how lofty or idealistic a concept may be, humans will always find a way to Fuck it up.

I've learned that no matter how fucked up a concept, someone will find a way to make fun of it and turn it into useful entertainment.

Just look at furries.

I have learned in my week or so here that if you were the impressionable type and just joined the community you would run for your life because LL is the devil spawn and SL is the worst creation to hit the internet. And that adults sometimes act like kids but this is the "Internets" lol

I learned better "English" ...if ya can call what I type & speak "English", heh

...ain't too many folks up here in Chicago who don't cuss every other sentence, use slang words that only we know in the midwest, AND use full sentences. It comes in handy since I moved outta the ghetto years & years ago, folks can understand me, woo

I have learned that:

The best laid plans of mice and men get all f^$ked up by cats and women.

( I hope you like that, it is original. It is not necessarily sincere, but I found it amusing.)
