Well, it's Friday, so I figured I'd ask a trivial question, but it's one that I've been thinking about. When I'm ready to log off, I tp back to my home location, check that I'm dressed, nothing weird attached, sit in the exact same chair every time, and then maybe do a quick scan to make sure everything is squared away in inventory, no open IM's, etc. and log off.
I have friends who just say goodbye and log off, regardless of where they are or what they're wearing.
Am I just being anal? For some reason, I see it like going to bed in RL - check the locks, turn out lights, brush teeth, etc...I know when I log on, I won't be sitting in the chair because it doesn't work like that, but it's a habit.
So, two part question - am I out of line and what do you do when you hang it up for the night?

I also "tidy up" before logging off. And if I'm logging off for the night - I mean logging off my computer for the night, I'll turn everything else off first (the extra open applications) just to give people that one extra amount of time to do something. There is a place I have to be when I log off, and a condition I need to be in, but that is somewhat a different topic. I used to make sure I am prepared for popping up in a pg welcome center because of region not available or whatever. Now, though, I just have to worry.

You're definitely not out of line. I play Webkinz with my daughter and they encourage doing exactly what you do with your av every time you log off. Mine varies. If I have no plans the next morning then I'm likely to log off pretty much anywhere and call it a day. If I have plans the next morning I will usually change into a new set of clothes so that (heaven forbid) I'm not caught wearing the same outfit the next day. I do usually go to my patio or my skydeck before logging off, but not always. Not a biggie if I don't.

/me shrugs: A little odd, Trout, but I doubt it's ARable I do a streamlined version of the same thing myself... sign out of any conversations and usually TP home. I'm usually aware enough of whether I'm dressed or not that I don't need a special check.

I just tp home (usually) and log out. I change the next morning, check what needs checking the next morning, etc. I don't have a chair or bed or anything that I prefer to log out in, and outside of hugging and kissing the missus, no real rituals to attend to. Conversely however, I will occasionally strip down to my tattoos, put on my business, and take off my glasses before logging out, just in case I get moved to a Infohub upon my next login. What can I say? I like to be noticed whenever going someplace new. Plus it affords someone the opportunity to later converse with their friends and say "Yeah! And this morning while at this info hub, some crazy looking naked black guy landed on my head."
As for you (and others) who have a ritual/routine you go through before logging out being out of line? Nope. Not at all. Your SL. Log into and out of it any way you please.

I either send her home and make sure she's dressed appropriately for the next day, or send her to the stores, so if I manage to get on ajaxlife, I can stand and talk to my customers. One night, I just said wtf and tucked her into her nice king-size bed, and left the computer on all night...lol. (NO BASHING ME FOR THAT)

Depending on whether I plan on going right back to the place, I usually just TP home and log off there. I'm not too worried about the inventory, although I usually say goodbye to IM's before hitting quit

I don't have one set thing that I always do. Sometimes I just log off whereever I'm at. Sometimes I TP home. Sometimes I'll swing the camera around and "pose" for the picture that will be shown the next time I log in.

So a lot of you will put on a new outfit each day? I just go home then log out. I change clothes typically only when what I'm wearing isn't appropriate for what I'm going to do. Aside from that i'll wear the same thing for 2, 3, 4 days.

I also observe a 'bedtime ritual', part for practical reasons, part just because i like to.
Practical: I detach all scripted objects before logging out whenever possible. They keep state in variables, and it seems to me that they are vulnerable to borkitude while rezzing/crashing/dropping packets during login.
Also, I tp to either my "home" or my house (I've set "home" to an incredibly unbusy spot on mainland, not my land. I use "home" only as the TP of last resort -- when the grid is icky and Idesperately need a TP to work). I do this because I don't want to rez in to a busy place, too much risk of dropped packets (leading to messed up cache or even lost inventory).
Emotional: I like to be at peace before I log off at night. I'm usually only on during RL night, so usually I'm going to RL bed when I log. I sit or lay down somewhere, look at the view, tidy up, and log.
I know that many SL couples and families who are physically remote from each other in RL also bid each other "goodnight" in ritual ways, just like in RL.

Usually I TP home, make sure I am presentable for whoever might see me when I next log in, and then I log out. If I am certain that I will start at a job site the next morning, then I may just log out there, so I am ready to work the next morning.
Now as for my alts? Hummm. Most of them I send to their rooms before logging them out, so when they log in they "wake up" in their own rooms in my castle. In most cases that is their designated Home point as well.

From: Trout Recreant So, two part question - am I out of line and what do you do when you hang it up for the night? Out of line? Hardly! At the end of the night, either I'll let my folks know I gotta go to bed *or* they'll send me up to get ready for bed (like when my daddy says "time for little girls to go to sleep" . I'll usually pout about it, cuz I'd rather stay up all night, if I could. I get my jammies and nightgown on, maybe go brush my teeth or hair. Typically my sister and brother will be there to - my brother down the hall in his room, changing, and my sister in the room with me. (For those wondering: no nudity - it's a typical clothing swap. Shees the things I gotta point out). Then once were all ready either we'll call to our folks (if they're in shout range) or TP them in (if not). We'll do a round of ni ni hugs (or sometimes a couple rounds!), I'll say ni ni to my doll, Abby (although I've been bad about that lately), an we;ll get told it's time to head for bed. My sis will usually try to bargain into some time to jump on the bed 'stead of just jump in. That doesn't happen often. Mommy an daddy will tuck us in, we'll say our last ni nis an love yous. Sometimes (well, most of the time) me and mommy an daddy will also send sneaky hugs in IMs right around then. Then I'll fall asleep an log off. You thought your log off was a production? /me giggles Mari

I usually try to make sure I have pants on when I log off. I usually log in to home, so i don't worry about going back there beforehand.

I do the TP home, stand on the deck, check the IMs, say my *Nights* and empty my Trash and Lost Inventory, smack those cache buttons and get in my PJs. Then take a peek around and check that the security is turned on and off to bed I go…

I, too, have a ritual. I say goodnight to my friends, tp home, check to make sure home is all tidy, that all boxes have been unboxed and put in their rightful folders, and I figure out what I'm going to wear the next day (subject to last-minute changes of course...lol). And...this is where it gets nutty...I take a nice candle-lit bath in the jacuzzi bathtub and then get into jammies. I then hop into bed. Crazy perhaps, but comforting!

Gives me time to get organized, re-hash the day's events, re-organize my ever-expanding inventory (where DOES all that stuff come from? I swear it just appears...lol)

I tp home before I log off (or log back on at home if I get disconnected to make sure I don't end up ghosted till the next log-on), mostly because it's "home" and because the sim has always been reliable no matter how bad things get . I'll spend another few seconds thinking about things I wanted to do but didn't get a chance to, or things I want to do and leave myself a little note (this tends to be the time I'll remember rent is due ) before closing SL. (I'll click Clear Cache as well before actually logging off, but mostly that's unconscious since it's part of my log-off "routine"

I usually TP home or to my work platform, unless I'm in the middle of something somewhere (like a marathon shopping trip where I don't want to lose track of where I was).
One thing that I do that might be a little unusual: I set up a pretty picture. I pose and cam around and adjust the lighting/sun and all that.
I do that any time I reset my home position too. It's just so much nicer to log on to see a pretty picture, rather than just staring at the back of my head!

I actually have a set on Flickr for login shots Last night, though, everytime I logged in, first time or from crash relogging, I kept seeing a very close view of a stone wall. I had to look away and wait for it to stop loading.

How do you put your avatar away for the night?
12-21-2007 12:38
Two shots of Scotch and a Valium usually does it for me.
