This one is kinda comical.

My partner and I are long-term renters. We've seen many neighbors come and go from the parcel next door. Our most recent neighbors were a hilarious group. From what I gather, it was 4 people sharing the house. They only ever used voice and I could hear them across the parcel. My voice is always on. I never bother to turn it off, and occasionally I'll use it. When I was at the house and the neighbors were talking, I would turn down my volume. I never really thought about muting them, I just turned it down. Actually the one time I did listen, early on when they first moved in, I thought they were going to be really cool neighbors...they cracked me up.

However... I logged my alt in one day and right before tp'ing from the house, I heard a female voice say "Hey! Can you hear me?" Hey! f*** I hate this s**t! LOL I tp'd away from the house...I was on a mission I can't remember. Then up popped this IM that said "why is your voice on?" This was a male name. Um...I didn't recognize the name at that time and I looked around and didn't see it where I was...thought it was a stupid question and closed the im. Later I tp'd back to the house and the neighbor's house was gone. I checked the about land and discovered my alt was banned from it. Found out later that the neighbors left cause they thought they had no privacy cause the neighbor used voice and could hear their conversations.

I have never been griefed so to speak over an avatar. (Yes people spewing out hate counts as griefing) Of course my avatar is unique, looks like something from Japanese Anime.

Heck, I have never been snapped at by anyone randomly.
WAIT! I know, there was this one, shall I say Dumb Land Owner. He thought I was a land bot who stolezz his land cuse I accidentally Teleported onto it while tping to a friend.
He IMed me, then said he IMed a huge group of people, saying I was an evil land bot!
So I was snapped at, and had mass slander in a matter of 20 seconds, WTH!

I was of course furious, and educated the pion that I was no Land Bot, but I knew who took his land. taught him how to prevent it in the future. He of course apologized in the end and un-slandered my name.

It makes me laugh to this day.

Peace,
~Soma

That is something I just don't get. (o.o) ... Antisocial people in a social network. Am I missing something? (o.o)

I mean, really, there are WAY better 3D design, programming, scripting, and physics simulation tools out there... For free! Why bother getting involved in SL if all you really want to do is NOT meet anyone? (o.o)

Perhaps I should have phrased it differently. It's not specifically antisocial, but rather people who need structure to their interactions.

For example, introverts can be very social within a small group of friends. But they'll rarely make new friends in unstructured environments, like parties. They're more likely to find friends in clubs (in the sense of a chess club or science fiction club, not a night club).

Personally, as I pretty strong introvert, I need to budget my interaction time. My partner and I go to various conventions several times a year, and he's gotten used to the idea that I may take a few hours off to be by myself, or that I'm at my best mingling with new people in the afternoon but much worse late evening.

So there's nothing inconsistent in the idea that a person may enjoy hanging out with a handful of friends at a house but be stressed out by an uninvited stranger.

to the OP tale of getting gang-bombed,
a) that's too bad about the clique crap-throwing in SL - i'm a newbie and have definitely observed the rare lo-life interaction.

b) i can't wait to happen upon some of this. my come-backs usually sting so hard the perpetrator usually forgets they started it all. :D

don't let the digital asshats get ya down!

I guess that just kinda cracks my point of view of SL. My RL social life involves only one other person, no telephone use, and very little out-of-home activity.

I joined SL to break out of that and at least have some way of contacting other people in a way I can mentally tolerate.

Maybe it's just my lack of exposure that prevents me from understanding the idea of someone worse off than me. (=_=)y

lol - omg. I'm having a bad allergy morning. I love Spring, but the pollen kills me. So through bleary eyes and a congested brain, I read:

"Behold the awesome powah of the Feted Inner Chicken!"

"Children" makes more sense, but "Chicken" was pretty funny in a weird sort of way.

Well..I gotta say...the SL kids I have met have really creeped me out too..and I can tell ya why.
This is a blanket statement, I understand that, and it is based soley on the SL kids I have met. But it goes for ALL the SL kids I have met, with the exception of these forum boards. I have 2 adult kids of my own in RL. Never did they speak like the children here. Using baby talk regardless of the age. I saw a kid at a place recently, who was RPing age 7. A boy...and talking to his mommy, like..."Mommy...pweese gimme dwinkys...mes firsty."

Ok...I get it...you wanna RP your inner child...fine...but JEEZ, have a bit of a genuine feel to it. My boys would have NEVER been caught dead talking like that, much less calling me mommy in public. By 7, it was Ma or Mom or MOOOOTTTHHEERRRR!!!! LOL. It grates on my nerves.
However, the few child avi's in here are changing my views. You not only speak intelligently, but with a seemingly child like quality that is endearing...NOT annoying.

Just my 40 cents (2 cents + inflation)

I was real uncomfortable around SL kids at first. Between the overdone kidspeak and the glam-doll styles... If she offers, spend some time around Mari and her crowd - they've built an impressive world-within-a-world. Her fireworks shows kick*** too.

Well, like I said the few child avi's here in the forums are changing my views of all Sl kids. They are the only ones SO far who have not come across as sticky sweet. They actually come across as intelligent, AGE APPROPRIATE children. THAT is more easily accepted and tolerated, at least by me. I don't mind going along with the RP if it isn't getting on my last nerve (and I only had one left anyway!) I can respect the person's choice on who or what they are in SL, but are SO much less receptive to kids with the babytalk dealio. I mean...if my kids talked like that in RL at those ages...they would be going to a speech therapist right off!

I hear you with the age appropriate behavior. ;) If I would train it out of a rl kid I spend time around, why would I want it in sl?

I think I had mentioned this once on the forums; back when Claire and I first met we TPed to a popular club...which is now gone BTW. We were on the dance floor, minding our own business dancing away when all of a sudden we were being heckled from across the floor with; "You F***ing Pedophile!" Claire is short, and used to be even shorter back then, I suppose she looked like a child avi to them...well she looked lovely and all-woman to me! We finally realized they were addressing their indignation to us and we TPed out of there.

Heh... Crud... I guess I'm not trying hard enough. (^_^)

You ain't gett'n any argument from me. I'll listen to anyone for a while, but, sometimes it's like.... "wait... uh... wha~?... Is that even English anymore?" (o.o) Ugh, they're lucky I don't cuss. (>_<;)

I honestly keep away from adoption agencies most of the time totally because of that. It's fun to meet other kids around... but WOW... I can take the pastel 'wubby dubby' for only so long. (=_=)y

Ok and on the subject of the baby, waby talk...lol...WHAT is up with newly coupled people talking in general chat in baby talk? I was at a certain biker place I am wont to hang out at sometimes...and this couple....newly married...."Ah babylove, let's go play kissy-wissy!" "Ok sugar-plum, you are just my widdle diamond aren't you?"
My partner and I had a field day (in IM) talking to each other like that for about a week afterwards.."Oh, baby-waby...my widdle snookieookums, lover-boy." Hahahaha ONLY in IM...for a joke...but in GENERAL CHAT? LOLOL. Maybe I am too jaded...but DAYMN.

Yeah, I like to dress up in all leather and then proceed to destroy the RP I so painstakingly took hours and hours creating! LOL!
I bet one thing...on whatever level they were with each other, they sounded much happier that a lot of whiners and complainers I have heard in SL...I would not steal their happiness for all the money in SL :)

That's true. I would much rather hear that then all the bitching and whining I sometimes come across, or than ANY nasty person...(back in line with the thread, lol). After all, if we were all the same in RL or SL...what a boring place it would be.
