Ermmmm...was trying to respond to a current thread and received a "You can't post here, possible reasons are" which really spooked me for a moment...given the discussion.

It looks like they don't want billing issues discussed. Second thread poofed in the past couple days. Looks like a mod got laid off from their day job.

Given that it related to the finances of a named avatar, it's not surprising.

Yup.

Yes, it was moved out of sight as it named a specific avatar and was revealing RL/SL (kind of a combination thereof, anyway) information, which as we all know is against the forum rules.
As such, i removed the thread instead of locking it, so that the information would not remain in view. (although, there was some interesting discussion going on about the topic in general) _____________________

And I honestly can't see anything wrong with telling people here that Joe Blogs had his account deleted. I don't know a rule against that either. _____________________

Good to see you, Cybin. I assume you mean this issue, which is findable via Google:
http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/general-sl-discussion/36972-okay-so-i-guess-i.html LL has to be the only service in the world where paying them money actually exposes you to more risk than using the service for free. Readers, vote for: [#MISC-1961] Premium accounts that miss payments to LL risk having the account & inventory getting deleted |

Readers, vote for: [#MISC-1961] Premium accounts that miss payments to LL risk having the account & inventory getting deleted I'm not talking about a person who gets into arrears accidentally - I'm talking about someone who owes money and doesn't appear to have any interest in paying it. From the removed thread, I understand that LL doesn't delete accounts immediately, but sends an email and only deletes it after 2 months arrears. Two months seems long enough to me whether an email has been received or not. _____________________

Phil, the two months is what I had seen in practice. It still might be two months, but we all know policy depends on which Linden's score on the Love Machine is low enough to require them to work that day.

I can understand not seeing an email about it because it would be very easy for me to miss one, but *if* two months arrears is the procedure, then, imo, that should be long enough for anyone to remember to get paid up, even without any emails. _____________________

Basically..
12-12-2009 16:20
ArchTx: you're welcome!
Phil: it wasn't accusatory at all, but it did mention that "this person lost their account for not paying", which i would interpret as revealing personal information about an account. (regardless of where or how that information was found). So, i decided to act on the side of caution. (And you're right, it's not an immediate action. It would be a matter of automatic warnings before anything happened) _____________________

Ok, Cybin. It didn't strike me as being a 'bad' thread, and I was amazed to see it gone (if you can see something that's gone, that is).

I do not know about anyone else, but LL charges my credit card automatically every time tier or my renewal is due. Because of their prior history a LOT of credit card companies block them first and only unblock them after talking to the customer. If my CC company decided they did not like LL again I doubt I would realize it any time soon. _____________________

If I had such a problem, I'd get another card from a company that doesn't cause the problem Good luck finding one. It is a pretty common problem that CC companies will be suspicious of LL: an internet company that charge from overseas and has had lots of payment issues/payments about them in the past. If your credit card has no issues with LL I would advise you to get a new one ASAP. They clearly are not looking out for your financial interests! _____________________

If I had such a problem, I'd get another card from a company that doesn't cause the problem, and I'd be sure to check my account after each tier day, to make sure it had gone through. Or I'd make sure that I converted enough $L to cover it each time. Two months is a long time forget about it, and I can't blame LL for coming to the (automated) conclusion that the person has no inclination to pay up. I just make sure I have my tier dollars and premium account dollars sitting in my USD account on the website, at tier/payment time, as they will take from that first. That way they don't have to go into any cc accounts at all. |

Hi Cybin, nice to see you. Not disputing the thread closing, but I just wanted to make it clear we were discussing information the person in question provided openly on the SLU forums... it was simply a carry-over from her own thread over there. |

This is all really speculation.
Sometimes dudes feel the need for a dramatic exit. I wish him well, but is there really a need to try to bring LL to fault when this is so one sided?. Could not said avatar have cancelled their account and be "Crying wolf"? _____________________

Could not said avatar have cancelled their account and be "Crying wolf"? Not him.. her. And she's not one to cry wolf, though it's annoying to have LL being such putzes. Now, I wonder if her account was ever gotten back? _____________________

LL has to be the only service in the world where paying them money actually exposes you to more risk than using the service for free. There is also the U.S. Government. _____________________

Do you have a URL for that please? Until this particular event turned up I would have been inclined to vote for it but now I'm not so sure. Why would a system owner allow someone who owes them money to continue using the system and, if they are prevented from using the system, their inventory is no good to them. I haven't delved into the ins and outs of the situation, but LL holds idle basic accounts open for years before deleting them. Why not just, after 2 months in arrears, lock the premium account and wait to see if the owner shows up within a year? If they do and want their account back, they pay the arrears and a fixed fee to unlock it. If the account holds whole sims, take the sims offline and charge a new setup fee to bring them back. If a person has rented land, their landlord will boot them. *shrugs* something like that. Current policy punishes premiums who run into RL travail. . |
