Fixed. Although I'm sure some idiot has it saved somewhere and will pull it out in the future when I decide to run for Political Office....

For me, it depends a whole lot on whether or not I have a major building project going on. My numbers tend to be high because I run a business in SL and generally put in a 20 hour "work week" in-world.

I usually go in-world every day, several times per day, at least to check messages, sometimes to chat briefly with friends. All of my alts log in at least once a week, at a minimum, and about half of them get several times in-world every week. I'm including my alts in the numbers below, but only counting it as one if more than one account is logged in at once.

I may be on for anywhere from zero to 6 hours during the day, depending on how slack my RL work day is. I spend a lot of time "on standby" at work, punctuated by periods of intense workload. If I am on standby, I can cruise the forums or even go in-world while still technically at work.

Evenings and weekends, varies from zero to 8 hours in-world on weekdays, and zero to 16 hours on weekends. Depends on what I have scheduled in RL and what needs to get done in-world.

On average, I figure when I have a major build in progress, I am in-world 20+ hours a week building, plus at least another 8 hours that week on my own activities. That averages to 4 hours a day, but also assumes I don't spend much weekend time in-world. I answered 6 as my average per day, because most weekends I am on more often.

But that is only in-world hours. Add more for cruising the forums, 4 to 8 times per day, and for off-line work making textures or writing scripts that will be used in-world. Hard to put any solid numbers at all on that. But it is safe to say that SL devours a larger chunk of my discretionary free time than any other voluntary activity that I have. (The RL day job, at 40+ hours a week, doesn't count as discretionary - that pays the RL bills!)

I said 8 for me that would be 6+ hours working and an hour or so hanging out/chatting. I don't work outside the home and am somewhat of a shut in wintertime (which it is here now) so I don't think that is a problem.

I didn't consider forum time, but that is even hard to tally up. I generally don't "sit at" the computer when on the 2 SL forums. I have them up but am usually doing other things around the house, so I am up and down, in and out.

I think that's a good reply.

Honestly...I started SL because in RL I have agoraphobia and before anyone says it...yes I'm seeking help but I missed socialising so much that I sought it out another way..virtually.

You are not alone here with agoraphobia :) and SL does wonders for making me feel great about the social life i do have now since having one in RL outside of family is so difficult to the point of total discomfort.

I really kinda doubt SL has helped your "agoraphobia".

I didn't choose any of the poll options because the amount of time I spend in SL varies so much day to day. It can be anything from 15 minutes a week to nearly a week straight of 18+ hour sessions, depending on my level of interest and what mood I'm in that day(s). There's been times when I've sat down and logged in out of boredom, and found myself having a great time pulling another all-nighter. Then there's other times when I had been entheusiastically thinking about SL most of the day during the ho-hum at work only to log in, and then log out again 30 minutes later bored and lonely. Addicted?.. definately! Addicted to the point of causing problems? no, not really... I've gone over my allotted amounts of free time and SL spending money a few times, but it's not like I'm struggling to pay the bills or rubbing elbows with piles of dirty dishes as I type this. *eyes the 2 empty soda cans sitting there...it's ok.. they're not "dishes"* SL has helped with being somewhat shy and fearful of group speaking, so I think it's been a mostly positive experience. Still a few negatives to work on though, like my impulsiveness... which reminds me.. I still have a lot of L$ and there's lonely shoe stores out there.. *poof*

It is not rude, it is an observation.

Actually I think that being in a situation where people/new situations can be dealt with easily might make someone a little more able to reach out IRL.

SL might not make someone with agoraphobia less inclined to that fear, but it CAN give them a social outlet that doesn't trigger that fear response, or that doesn't do it as badly.

Yup. You post your social disorder and the internet mocks you.

BD set this precedent with her constant disparaging remarks about Torley anyway.

depending on the day of the week and the usefulness of being logged in, i'm online for an estimate of 3 to 4 hours a day. (in the evening mostly in my timezone)

but it used to be much more, like 6 to 8 or even 7 to 9 hours estimated. (going through the night, lol e.g. from 7 pm to 3 am next morning, is 8 hours)

Insulting everyone on the forums is the height of maturity I guess.

Better the generic "everyone" than one or two people in particular.

Aren't you the person that IM'd me last year and told me they were dying from Lung Cancer and then proceeded to ask me things about our relationship past of over 4 years old?

Don't even try it Angel, you have no legs to stand on.

Oh, we could quibble about this all day and I'm feeling a little feisty. I don't care what you think. You made a rude comment to someone about their personal disability. Just accept it and move along, rather than doing this tit-for-tat thing.

I really found the poll limiting. A weekly number would better show my own habit. Myself spending about 50 or more hours per week... That's usually 6 hours per day and 14 on Saturdays. I have a RL job, so, my weekday activities are limited. (^_^)

Before SL, I was pretty much a nothing. I spent around $60 per week on Anime and Manga. And, kept a laptop running 24/7 getting fansub torrents. Now, in SL, I'm basically breaking even on money, not making or spending a thing. My bandwidth usage is probably 30% of what it used to be. And I interact with the characters I meet. (^_^)

Besides some major character flaws on my part, SL has been what I needed to have what I consider to be the only social life I'm capable of. So, I won't call it an addiction. I'll call it a life. The social life I never had. I won't ask for anything more. (^_^)y
