Another quote from the website Acquiring Land: Acquiring land in Second Life requires a Premium Account. From a tiny parcel to an entire island, the pricing structure is extremely flexible to suit any need or budget! Again not telling new members they can buy land as a basic BUT need to be premium to buy land on the mainland. As is the difference (US$100 extra) they charge us was not a big enough hurdle ! _____________________

The point is to ENCOURAGE new users to go premium, not to get them to stay free accounts. LL has to make money somehow. And please, let's NOT START on free vs. premium accounts here. Clicking on the big picture takes me to the land store.. WTF? The other page worked fine! why did they go and break it? I mean come ON LL!!! From all points of view this was a downgrade, sure it looks nice

Not sure the front page is tied to the forums pages.. /me does not expect this to signal the phoenix-like rebirth of vB code and the return of the great PHP tag. If might mean that the web devs now have more time to do whatever they're doing to the forums (support tie in?) though. It does seem strange that the SL website would be tied to the forums and the vB code. But, that's the reason Torley said vB code was disabled - they were updating their website. -Atashi _____________________

OK, if you're already logged in with a main grid account, it shows you "Go Premium!", but if you're completely logged out, it shows the "Free Account" button, as well as a more obvious link about system requirements and info about the teen grid.
I do agree with Garth, however, that LL's continuously claiming "You must be Premium to buy land." is misleading, when over half the grid is NOT mainland and does NOT require a Prenium account to buy there. It should say "If you have a Premium Account, you can buy land on the Mainland, direct from LL." _____________________

Technically this is true though - since when you "buy" land on a private estate you are infact renting it. As far as LL are concerned the Estate owners own all the parcels therein -hence them paying the tier and you paying them. _____________________

That's what I'm seeing too...I'd guess they have limited space and they're trying to give the most pertinent info relevant to an individual's status. I mean, if you're already a Resident, you probably know the basics and are more concerned with what's new and shiny and/or broken today, whereas someone who's still considering it may have a stronger desire to read up on SL first. _____________________

*sigh* No kidding, Sherlock. I'm not seeing them. I'm logged in. If I log out, then I see them.  I'm logged in and I do see them. Although the very 1st time I viewed the page they weren't there. When I went back to the site a while later then they were there. I'm also using Firefox. Maybe that's the difference. Or maybe it's because it's a full moon on a Tuesday.
