The IT maintains a consistent double standard in that it remains off-topic for extensive periods of time and fails to acknowledge the rights of others in other threads to do so. Unless you (general you here) are suggesting, by advocating the shutdown of the IT, that you don't mind every other thread here turning into an OT thread - which, in the absence of aggressive moderation, is as much of a certainty as Godwin's Law. _____________________

Before the IT thread, the level of derailment in threads was much higher I think, as well as the arguing over those derailments. There were also far more "nonsense and ranting" threads being started. it's not a perfect solution, but in the absence of any real official guidance from LL, it helps.

Many of us revel in exchanging ideas and viewpoints. What we (or We) object to is your farkin' attitude. Example: I'm really sorry that Jig's got upset again. I like Jig. I disagree with a lot of her posts, and I can be annoyed when she and Pep start slanging each other. (By the way, Jig, I think "rabid pitbull" was an affectionate term, not intended to be hurtful. Please come back and help us bury this antisocial creep.) But you, on the other hand... /me sets a match to your hair and helpfully hands you a bucket of gasoline. MMM.. I know you'll probably think that "more pith please Lindal" is just a request from a lisping physician when presented with the usual inadequate sample. From some however it might be a simple request from time pressed readers who really haven't the time to shovel through the usual mountain of diatribe to mine a similarly small and malodorous reservoir of gold. In series 3 I think, Josh finds there is a site called Lemon-Lyman.com which is dedicated to all things Josh. He makes the mistake of posting in the forum, only to be reprimanded by C.J. as follows: "Let me explain something to you, this is sort of my field. The people on these sites: they're the cast of 'One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest.' . . . I'm telling you to open the ward room window and climb on out before they give you a pre-frontal lobotomy and I have to smother you with a pillow. . . . " Sound familiar? Well I have my own version of C.J. telling me the same in roughly the same terms. I enjoyed this way too much, but .. well RL calls. Bye Bye..xx |

You're 100% correct regarding that stupid thread. The thing is if they took that thread down there would be many here who would feel totally lost without it. That thread is the highlight of their day, their sole reason for coming to these forums.
