Can I have a real dollar? I don't have much use for pretend money, nor do my bill collectors. Don't you need my pay pal account or something?

If you are wanting to sell SL products in sufficient quantity to make significant real world income, you might do well to view the many posters in that thread and all posters at forums.secondlife.com as potential customers, which would mean you'd probably not want to antagonize them, but instead behave in such a way as to be well thought of by them.

Also, might as well put an ad in your forum signature.

Want to run multiple avatars at one time?

Just do

Advanced, Debug Settings,

and set

"AllowMultipleViewers" to TRUE.

Close SL.

Now you can run multiple accounts without having to modify your shortcut.

OMG! U r a genius!
:D Thanks!

'Tis nothing more or less than an attempt to steal the thread for his/her self.

I am not sure if this is a serious thread question but I do think it deserves a serious answer.

I have posted in the Ignore Thread twice. Both were simply statements - I am not involved in the general discussions in that thread. I don't have a real husband, children, dogs or other things that people on that thread enjoy and often discuss. I think it's a thread that relies upon commonalities in life experience and, possibly, culture.

It may surprise some people that I think there is some validity in maintaining the Ignore Thread. It serves a purpose for many people. It is a community thread. A relatively small group of individuals - women, mainly, I believe, (but I could be wrong) who find a sense of companionship in the thread. They chat about their lives in the real world and also about adventures (often romantic ones or frustrating ones) and even gossip. I see no harm in that. It may not be for everyone but if that is what keeps them close together in their workplace or at home as a break in their day, then so be it. Keep the thead. Let them have fun.

BUT:

The problem lies in the double standard that is often applied by "members" of the Ignore Thread. The thread often deals with non-SL topics on an extensive basis. It does not have an immediate impact on SL. That seems fine until Ignore Threaders apply the forum "rules" of remaining "on-topic" to other posters with other questions. Or they pile on to a threader who does not meet their approval rating - surveys, for example, are the latest topic to passionately dislike. Or a poster who is irreverant becomes ignored and is shunned.

Gradually, the posters in the Ignore Thread become isolated themselves. Ideas or comments by people who are not "liked" or approved of by members of the "club" are discussed in a less-than-objective tone. Despite the objections of many, the Forum has a very poor reputation in sl itself. Most people have not heard of it and the few friends I have persuaded to read the forum or become engaged in posting and threading have given up in disgust or in frustration. The Ignore Thread cements the clique-mystique, whether a clique exists or not. The Ignore Thread has a negative impact in that regard.

I hesitate to post this because the comments will either be ignored by those who have switched me off, or they will get shot down by angry Ignorers, or they will be rebuked by people who cannot appreciate that the Ignore Thread is doing damage to the forums. People love the Ignore Thread so let it be kept but let the "Ignorers" be more magnaminous about other users of the forum itself.

Hi Paradigm...that's the beauty of a forum; everyone has a right to voice their opinion. :)

the ironic thing is, it was supposed to be ignored, and just let slide off the page, as the issue I had with firefox fixed its self

some folks kidded around in the beginning then it just took off

personally I would like to see it closed.

Reason:
About once a week I get a msg from a random person, grumbling at me for starting that thread, saying I was stupid to do so and that I knew what it would become and that I did it just for the attention.

All of which is a load of garbage. Sure I wanted people to pay attention to me back then, I wanted to be part of the "in crowd" and have folks joke around with me like they did each other, but that thread was not intended for that.

Since then I have grown and no longer seek acceptance or attention. I have also come to realize that it was not them that made me feel unwelcome, it was me that did not feel comfortable with them, no matter how hard I tried. I think that was the biggest thing, I was trying to fit in, where I did not fit in, because I deep down, did not want to fit in.

So anyway, the undead thread was in no way a ploy to garner acceptance, or attention, and I had no idea what it would become.

If I could remove my name as the first post (thus OP of the thread) which shows on the threads list page, I would in a heartbeat, but I can't, so I live with the grumpy random msgs and move on.

My comments still stand that I think it DOES have some purpose for a relatively few people, but that a double standard is consistently applied by Ignore Threaders to other posts. But supposing there is a consensus of opinion regarding closure of the thread, can it actually be closed and removed? I may be wrong but I actually think it may even have an influence on the forum speed issue.

I agree with you Jig.

I am not sure if people started reporting it if it would get closed or not.
I am not even sure if I (as the thread's original poster) would be able to get it locked. (not that I am going to try) that would be a sure fire way to piss off a lot of people, and if they did not already dislike (or hate me) they would in a hurry.

Even though I am in no rush to fit in and make oodles of friends, that doesn't mean I wish to make oodles of enemies either heh

I don't like you OP, should I want you banned from the forums or should I just ignore you?

No one has to read the thread. No one has to participate in it. Stop trying to take it away from people who do enjoy it. The only legitimate gripe here I can understand is Rha's for having her name on it. Unfortunately, if her post goes the whole thread goes.

A single thread has no bearing on a forum's speed. These forums are slow because there are a tons of people on them every day and LL refuses to upgrade the software or the server it sits on.
.......
BTW Thanks SuezanneC,learn something new everyday.:)

actually I thought it became a great device, removing a large part of the 'background noise' from the forum for real questions.... kinda like a miniature self regulating general discussion forum, hiding in plain sight =)

PS I've posted in it, but couldn't keep up, so quit trying.

PPS but if you'd like this thread to replace that one, I'm sure there are no end to the volunteers, or their enthusiasm >=)

In vBulletin an administrator can change a post (even a thread starter) to show a different poster, or none at all.

Perhaps Rha should request this is done. It would solve the problem without destroying the thread.

Also as far as performance issues go. The thread has no more impact on performance then a normal thread. The database only needs to be queried when viewing a page, and then, only the entries relevant to the particular page are requested.

That thread is great just for the simple fact of how enormous it has gotten. Nevermind the diverstiy of subjects. Plus it fun.

Not in the version LL is using.(3.0.5) Is this a new feature in 3.8.1?( I am using at 3.6.8 atm,I am too lazy to upgrade .) I have never been able to change a thread starter. I could go fool around in the database and change stuff I guess, but LL would never do that.

Don't be silly Paradigm, old fellow. There are getting on for 6.9 billion people in the world (frightening, isn't it). The Thread has barely scratched the surface with its Assimilation Plan as yet.
