Bless Pep, if you're going to tell lies they have to be believable.

In order to start a war of any kind you have to find an opposing side to care.. and really yours is the only feeble ego dependant on a self-deluded grammatical superiority.

Now now, let him finish his turn on the swing. Play nice!

No, no, replying is a worthy and admirable past-time. Starting the thread was what I was referring to.

I love how alts come out of the woodwork to give witty replies :D

I still stand by my original statements on page 1 or 2.

And the rest of the replies appear to bear me out. The immediate response of the majority of Ignore Threaders is to dismiss or sneer at any suggestion that "THEIR" thread has had it's time. Rha is correct ofcourse in saying that should it be cancelled people would blame her. I have been on teh receiving end of enough "hate mail" to appreciate her wariness of even becoming involved in closeing down the Ignore Thread. It would be relentless for her and I do not blame her for her attitude.

It IS the double standard that is applied that "offends" the non-Ignorers. It does appear to be a "bitch session" quite often ( It does appear to be a "Name the Cat" thread occasionally. That's cool. But let others - in other threads - go off topic or get a little "sarky" and be just as "spirited".

Have the ignore thread by all means but be generous in allowing others to ask questions, respond, stick their metaphorical "tongue" out - or, even post surveys - in the forum without entering World War III: and please, do not dust off that old mainstay of the curmudgeon "attitude and insults are much worse on other chat lines on the internet."

Just wanted to say that thread is ridiculous and should be removed. There will soon be more people who have replied to that thread than have not. I've decided to not contribute to that madness by replying in another thread, so I'll never be apart of something so retarded.

So ha take that stupid thread!

jealousy is very unattractive on you.

You are sooooo wrong!

Pep (Every time Jig types "teh" it so annoys me that I go outside and start a civil war!)

Everyone is so busy criticizing the original post that they do not realize they are simply underscoring the behaviours that have lead to the "rift" in the forums: Ignore Threaders "versus" the rest of us.

What do Ignore Threaders say about my (and a few others) ideas about substituting the "double-standard" of the Ignore Threaders and toning down the dismissive attitudes that are becoming apparent recently for postings other than in the "I.T".

Have the IT. But be less demeaning elsewhere.

Versus the rest of us? You really need to stop speaking for others Jig. You seem to cause your own rifts though IMO.

I can only speak for myself, but I have never told anyone what they can post and cannot post in RA. Unlike what you are trying to do now. You make a new thread every time a little thought sprouts in your mind. SL related or not. Yet the ignore thread bothers you.

To be honest, your threads bother me. So I ignore them,I don't participate in them. Should I start reporting them and petition LL to take away the new thread button from you because I don't like them?

I wrote that I - for one - was quite happy to see the Ignore Thread continue Rioko, I have absolutely NO IDEA why you are so consistently opposed concerning my posts. I am NOT BOTHERED by the Ignore Thread - in fact, I have defended the Ignore Thread in THIS thread. Please read my comments carefully before you pass sentence on me.

I am curious about why my threads "bother" you - but I am not surprised that they do.

Since I post (infrequently) in that thread, I'll take this as an invitation to express my thoughts.

What confuses me is that anyone can be an Ignore-threader. If you're not one of the posters, it's by self-omission, and not anything else.

That said, I agree, if the IT thread is allowed to continue, then other OT threads should be allowed to continue. I don't think that thread should have the market cornered on non-SL content ... *unless* that thread is deemed the one place where such posts can be allowed to run amok. Which I am totally cool with, as that should pad it's post count nicely. :D

What we really need is a sanctioned general chat forum.

I said rl? Why on earth do you believe that whatever persona Pep's author adopts in here is reflected in real life?

Maybe you should re-read your own comments, because you are speaking out of both sides of your..mouth. In one breath you say you want the ignore thread to stay, the next you are insulting the participants of that thread, agreeing that Rha should request it closed, then go on to say the thread is causing forum slowdown and whatever else you can think of to blame on the thread and it's participants.

I'm not sure where i fit in. I'm not quite 'an Ignore Threader' to use your words, because truthfully I think I'm too new to fit in comfortably yet, although I do post occasionally. I read the thread faithfully, drool over the breakfasts, enjoy the banter, which is often deeper and more introspective than just banter, and think it's great that there can be a sort of 'general' place for people who are on this forum regularly, that doesn't have to be focused on answering resident related questions. (Long and cumbersome sentence there, sorry). It's obvious to me that the people who you would probably consider 'thread regulars' are long time friends. They have been kind and friendly and accepting towards me have not appeared 'cliquish', and I have nothing bad to say about that thread. I think it serves it's purpose. I feel I am getting to know some of them through their frequent posts, and yeah, I like them.

I don't see dismissive attitudes in the other posts (except for surveys) but I feel that anyone posting a survey ought to do a little surveying of their own first. Would only take a second to type the word 'survey' in the Search function to get a feel for what their next step should be. Just like the person who came in yesterday, saying, oh hey I heard there might be a merge of the teen and adult grid, what do you think about that? Just as if their thought was fresh and brand new off the presses never been discussed before. That thread with it's 1,070 posts was sitting right there for anyone to notice had they taken the time. It's annoying when people just don't bother to take the time to review/research just a tiny bit before shooting off their mouths. So yeah, that annoyance may come out in the form of dismissiveness.

Ok this did meander on a tad, sorry. Bottom line I guess it's just a matter of perception. I just don't see it like you do.

Really Rioko, don't get upset.

I don't care either way, I use the Forums for.. let's say "sport".

If there's a thread and everyone who posts there enjoys posting there then I see no problem. I went for a look earlier today and to be honest it was all a bit tedious.. but each to their own and all that.

Actually even if the thread is in fact a clique whose raison d'etre is to exclude and demean.. I have a sort of grudging respect for that.

As far as I can see it would be a pretty easy clique to join, if I was in fact to lose all self respect and want to join in mind numbing, bowel contorting, genital wizening, pseudo literary conversations.

Now that sounds like I'm being derogatory because I am.. but as Voltaire once said:

"I disagree with you and everything you stand for, but I'll fight until it looks like I might get hurt for my right to continue disagreeing with you".. or something like that..:)

I honestly don't think that the IT leads to snarkiness on the part of its posters. The Forums in general lead to snarkiness, sometimes. Not everyone is snarky all the time, nor are ITers more snarky than non-ITers. Lord, before the IT even existed, snarkiness raised its ugly head quite often. How can the IT be responsible for it?

I'm sorry that Rha gets hate mail for it; that isn't right. I do, though, think that it's a relatively harmless release valve that vents a lot of pressure when things in other threads get too heated.

I hesitate to post this because the comments will either be ignored by those who have switched me off, or they will get shot down by angry Ignorers, or they will be rebuked by people who cannot appreciate that the Ignore Thread is doing damage to the forums.

That about covers off most possible responses (though I suppose you didn't expect much agreement). Way to attempt to shoot down the counter arguments before anybody can make them.

I'll go with the third option: you are full of crap.

Now, you'll either respond to this post, or not respond. And if you do respond, you may have lots of typos, none, or just a few. You will either claim that my post proves your point, or you won't. And yada yada yada.

Really, don't you have anything better to do than sing this tired old song YET AGAIN?

Thus: the decision to close down the Ignore Thread has TWO valid arguments: one in favour and one opposed.
The IT is a welcome means of communication for a group of people. That is a positive value.
The IT maintains a consistent double standard in that it remains off-topic for extensive periods of time and fails to acknowledge the rights of others in other threads to do so.
I am NOT insulting the participants. I am simply (as Pep might argue) pointing out two facts.

As to your final point about why you ignore my threads, well, "Dear General, I never gave you cause."
