No, you can not mix different versions. Nic has stopped making updates for several months now.

Nicholaz released some new versions on the 15th of April! Borked my prim hair Now using cool viewer for non-windlight log ins. BTW, despite Boy's claims, CV's slurl is still borked for me. I use Kirsten's when I need to use world map transport via slurl. My hair renders just fine in these viewers. ![]() _____________________

I'm searching for some old info, and I forget where it is. I thought maybe someone here could point me in the right direction.
Quite a long time ago, (more than a year) there were some instructions on how to increase the precision of the numbers in the edit window. Such as being able to specify the X-dimension of a prim as 4 or 5 digits to the right of the decimal point. I think the basic idea worked for just about any of the viewers, and it involved finding some values in a .xml file and changing them. Does anyone have this info? Thanks in advance! |

I've used the Nicholaz viewers since late 2007 and they have always been 10 steps ahead of the LL viewers. More stable and better organized. I just installed the latest Cool Viewer and so far, I like it a lot. No need for the Restrained Life stuff but everything else seems "snappy" and well done. My big interest is in the comms windows and how they lay out. Didn't have enough time to really test. Also the idea of assigning multiple perms to objects in inventory seems excellent!!

I used Nicholaz viewer for most of my SL time until the Security patches issue of last year wghen I switched to the Cool Viewer 1.19, which was better updated than Nicholaz' 1.19. I'm going to take a look and see what he's done. It's nice he's back. He has kept a lot of us low end machine owners in SL, as Boy Lne has. Thanks to both of them. _____________________

question about viewer version compatability
05-11-2009 17:01
hey guys.. well.. i'm really new at installing *other* viewers for SL.. but.. the last release candidate upgrade has had some really bad after effects for me, and a friend said he uses the Nicholaz viewer and really likes it..
soo.. i went to download it and noticed the *stated* viewer compatability version is not the same as the version i have.. its says to use it with 1.19 i think and i have 1.22.. is this going to be a problem? is there something extra i need to do? thanks for your patience ![]() angel |

Intel 965 chip set
06-12-2009 12:23
I have the Intel 965 chipset (see below) and even with Cool Viewer I am experiencing the same problems as before: lots of lag and frequent crashes. The hacks for the Intel 965 chipset are old and refer to pre 1.19 versions of the viewers, so my question now is whether there is a cure to run SL with Intel 965 chipset!!!!
(from About Second Life in the help menu): Cool Viewer 1.22.11 (0) May 24 2009 18:35:56 (Cool SL Viewer) Release Notes Second Life Server 1.26.4.120562 Release Notes CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1995 MHz) Memory: 2023 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: Intel Graphics Card: Intel 965/963 Graphics Media Accelerator OpenGL Version: 1.5.0 - Build 6.14.10.4785 |

maybe another gig of memory would help..
i moved the the regular viewer myself because a lot of things like certain huds and things were not working for me and really right now in the current viewer i'm not feeling anymore lag than when i was on the nicholaz viewer.. try dropping your draw distance down too that helped me a lot .. _____________________

so my question now is whether there is a cure to run SL with Intel 965 chipset!!!! The only cure for an Intel graphics adapter is to replace it with something good. If you have a laptop, you're boned. If you have a desktop, buy a good Nvidia graphics adapter. _____________________

Intel 965 chip
06-12-2009 16:12
I have the same problem. Why do you say that te Intel 965 chip is bad? SL doe snto sya that, just that it is not very common. I mean, it may be bad, but unless you say *why* it is bad, it just seems something that doe snot help much.

Why do you say that te Intel 965 chip is bad? It's too slow to run Second Life acceptably. _____________________

Yes, I can see it!
But in the past, for the pre-windlight version, I have seen that someone found a hack quite unobvious... so I am hoping that there may still be some solution now. Gabrielle |

Gabrielle Not likely. Windlight is the culprit. I'm guessing that chipset is like the ATI x300 in my desktop. It just isn't capable of running Windlight. The only hack is to use a non Windlight Viewer. _____________________

Some questions about this viewer - and sl?
06-23-2009 20:09
was wondering if someone could answer some question not so much about this viewer in particular but gen performance
I do ccs combat so am always looking to reduce lag, speed up. I had been using Imprudence for a while now. I am alway on the 'faster' setting - all windlight features off, low terrain, sun and moon, mesh detail way down etc.. So does 'ok' I only have 768 DSL so... my laptop is: CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1995 MHz) Memory: 4094 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (256meg) one issue that I always run into is looking into a certain direction, ping sim shoots way up and FPS drops way down to 1 or 2. So - what the heck is this 'OpenGL' in the current version, unchecked defentely seems better, even though I dont quite understand it. Also in these viewers it shows the 'viewer footprint' and it constantly creeps up as I am on. Is this the memory leak that is talked about? Is there anythng I can do in addition to using a viewer like this to help with performance? And does anybody, even people that work at Linden, have any idea what all this stuff is in the 'Advanced' or 'Client' menu or were they just makin up cool sounding words!? |
