Nika,

I totally understand this viewpoint, but especially in communication where you have to deal with packet loss etc, one of the design goals is to robustly deal with the unexpected.

The way I know it, with a bug like this, after such a long time the PM would be fussing and fuming and tell people to get the **** up and find a solution, even if they had to move all the prims by hand into position.

The fundamental approaches are okay if they spill over into many areas (like the back end asset server), or if you have enough time ... but ... we'll I guess I don't need to argue, I feel we're on similar positions anyway.

Thanks for the pointer to that other thread ... I indeed didn't see it ... will say hello there tomorrow.

Nick

Cannot have no active group
04-22-2008 22:00
In Nicholaz Edition [Eye Candy] 1.19.1 (4)
I can't see any way to set no group active. It's a small thing but I'm finding it highly
inconvenient. Is there some workaround?

Right click yourself, click groups from the pie chart. A little window will pop open with groups. Select none. This is the old style interface.

I love the Nicholaz viewer, except for one thing: in the Communication window, the New IM tab strikes me as totally unnecessary, given that I can just as easily use the Friends and Group tabs in the Contacts portion of the window to send IMs. It takes up valuable real estate, pushing my active IMs further to the right and forcing me to expand the window wider than I want to in order to see all my IMs.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this?

Yes - there's a small company called Linden Lab which do an alternative viewer based on the Nicholaz viewer which has an alternative layout for the communication window. You could try that?

Hello, last night, I kept catching glimpes of myself and a friends' avie folded in half.
Not like a deformer, I rem a while back that standing upright upper body folding.
My friend never saw it, I took a few photos, "See! see!" I did a cleared cache and have yet to log back in today.
Is this a return of a bug? or a once in a while occurrence or what?

Lovely idea, when the LL viewer isn't completely buggy.

compiling the client viewer
05-01-2008 01:40
I've been using the Nicholaz viewer for several months. I was thinking about trying to compile a viewer, and after I read http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Get_source_and_compile , and the problems with different compilers, I was wondering which compiler Nicholaz is using.

I have Visual Studio 6.0, 2002, 2005, 2008-Express.

According to the wiki, LL uses VS2003. The wiki seems fuzzy about using VS2005.

If you have the choice (i.e. compilers available), then use VS2003. Follow the instructions on the Wiki for doing the compile etc. and start with the plain Linden version. Once you got that running, download my source and copy the linden/ tree over the original source. It should even come with a vcproj file which includes the new source files which I added etc.

Nicholaz if I may ask, I have been using your build for some time now but my wife's laptop has an Intel 965 graphics chipset. Do your build(s) address any video adapter issues?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly on this. Unfortunately VS2003 is not available to me, so it isn't an option. I suspect that VS2002 is inadequate.

Andromeda: In that case I guess you'll have to jump through the extra hoops with VS2005. The conversion of the files to build VS2005 (on the Wiki) isn't as bad as it seems from the large instructions, it'll probably take you 20 minutes doing it for the first time, next time (when you know the drill) it'll be five or ten. And if it does not build, ask on the sldev mailing list for help, there are a lot of people there using 2005.

Papadave: Sorry, but I don't think it will make much difference for the intel chipsets. I'm hardly touching the rendering code for lack of expertise in those areas and my viewer most likely won't cure problems stemming from graphic chips/drivers incompatibilities with what SL is doing.

There's a new viewer version (EC-xf) without the New-IM tab and with 4096m building.

Right -- it's easier than it looks, just be careful and methodical.

Don't bother with the version 19 .vs8 files posted in the JIRA entry; the patch file isn't anywhere near correct. I wasted hours trying to do it the "easy" way, and then found that the manual way is really pretty quick and easy.

@morris:

Not really at the moment, but I have an experimental build of 1.20:

Thanks for the BE-W, Nick. It is even better than BE-V.

Whenever you get around to the 1.20 build, I'd really appreciate it. If it wasn't for the 3D Space Navigator connectivity, I'd be on your viewer. But they have that coverage...so I am stuck with the Linden's...with all of the issues we know and love.

By the way, I know the megaprims are gone, but I thought the Nicholaz viewer community would enjoy seeing what I did with my brief freedom from prim restraints:

I can hardly wait for the next one, the official main viewer by itself is just good for snapshots, and that's all.

Well, that and seeing Avatar Rendering Costs score.

An early 1.20 build is available already. Scroll down on my blog for the Band-Aid/Snow-Blind post.
