Yeah but Linden Labs has been smoking the Tao if they really think Second Life is really "the emerging 3D internet"

Yes. The instant you turn 18, which is enough, legally, for me to know I am not interacting with a minor. The rest is vague and ambiguous. People mature at different rates. Some 40 year olds are not 'adults' yet, but I don't have to worry about whether I am interacting inappropriately with a legal minor, either.

What happens, when a 17 year old, 'transitioning' gets caught by his mother in a compromising position with an adult on the sexgen bed in SL? When mom walks in and sees her precious baby's avatar doing something 'disgusting'? Will the kid legally get in trouble? NO. Mommy (being filled with self righteous anger at the molestation of her dear one) will be calling LL AND the RL police to report the sex crime. 17 year old says.....oops sorry......and walks off while adult participant rots in jail. No thanks!

The way I see it, most parents would think "OMG! My child is playing some adult game!" and then make the kid delete it.

SL is not as widely known as we'd like to think. Any corporate or residential setting I've been to, where I mentioned SL during conversation is usually met with "Whats Second Life?"

Chances are good if the parent doesnt know what the kid is doing on the computer they would have no clue what it is other than Lil' Johnny doing naughty things on a computer.

LL is certainly the emerging bit. As to whether they going to be still standing at the end I dont know, but Id bet on it, not that this means anything. If they are then kool, if not then I still be on the Grid with another provider. Kinda win win really.

Do you understand at all why people want to give children a childhood? Or do you think a bit of shit makes them stronger.. like you?

Your tough talk is not strong, your post to Briana was malicious, an attempt at belittling her experience. What good did that bring anyone?

Please don't try and tell me it's your right to push this in the name of freedom, it's not.

Pardon me?

There is nothing wrong with giving a 'child' their 'childhood' Ian.

There IS something wrong with the way people are treated based on a damned number.

As for Briana's post ....

I frankly don't care much if you think I'm belittling her experience or not, here's a fact for you: the post was worded - to me - to be a veiled attack and to convey the worst possible attitude one can using words on a screen.

I do not tolerate such BS Ian, nor do I hold back when I see even the hint of that sort of attitude.

Nor for that matter do I believe one word of it - sorry, that kind of attitude is learned.

Please do not tell me it is HER right to cop an attitude - It isn't.

Please do not tell me it is YOUR right to DEFEND such an attitude - it isn't.

Thank You!

You are right! EVERYONE posting in DISAGREEMENT WITH YOU is wrong. :D

I hate to insult other teen's, but you smell 19 or 20 tops. Bye!

Once again Briana - and maybe this time you'll get the message: DROP THE ATTITUDE AND BS.

This is not about "Right" or "Wrong", it is about differing viewpoints.

If you wish to bring age into this and take guesses, I'd pin YOUR age at NO MORE than 16 ... based on your attitude.

Someone disagrees with you and WILL throw in your face that there is no Right or Wrong in this discussion (with few subset exceptions): Get over it.

Officially LL has no plans to merge the Teen and Adult grid.

Unofficially with no verification required to enter the Adult grid teens may enter at any time.

This. And that they are only holding off on merging the two until they find a verification system that might work.. somewhat, kinda. Or at least one that they can pretend to have faith in.. err, keep them from getting sued when a minor *does* sneak through.

Yes thats pretty much it. The We Have Taken All Reasonable Precautions approach. Is how companies operate on the Internet and in real as well in all kinds of areas. LL not exempted from doing this either.

There has to be some cutoff point, however arbitrary.

The only people I see argue this vehemently that numeric age does not equal 'child' online, are NAMBLA members and such.

18 is the currently agreed upon number for adulthood, and it is what Linden Labs goes by. Yelling at Briana will not change that.

)This is true. However, society does not deny the new adult the right to see their teen friends outside of school, and after all, most kids do SL for fun. I see why new adults feel the transition is too abrupt, but changing that might be a lot of development work for little payoff.
.

The comment I was responding to, was that it is all gradual, nothing in RL had those stark cut off points as we age. I was giving an example of one.

Ahem: There are people in this world who have experienced FAR more by the age of Eighteen than some can expect to experience their entire lives ...

Feel free to believe what you want to ... I'll continue to live in the real world: You know, where NO ONE matures at the same rate and has the same life experiences.

Tell us Solar, how old are you? From your posts, I would have to imagine you have experienced very little of the world.

Sorry pal, you'll have to do some digging if you want anything beyond the most basic of personal information from me: I'm not in the habit of giving out person information to psychopaths.

No, it won't.

However yelling at someone with that sort of attitude either provides them a nice slap in the face ... or they just go on about their lives thinking they are always right.

Oh, I looked at your inworld profile. It confirmed to me that you are nothing but a snot nosed punk. And I am not your "pal", never have been, never will be.

Like it or not Solar, when you have to make quick decisions about people, lines have to be drawn. You have to use what you know from previous experiences, like treating people a certain way because of "a damn number". LL can't go talk to every one who signs up an account. They have to draw some lines somewhere. Just like all large enterprises do. They have chosen to make that line at 18. It works. Come back and talk to me in 15 years or so. Tell me what experience has taught you.

Sorry, once again PAL, no.

Looked at my SL profile? What sort of a JOKE is that? Sorry pal, but there is no personal information in my profile other than a picture of myself - which is by no means an indicator of age whatsoever.

Do yourself a favor: Don't bother trying to guess based off of the information you find in a GAME profile (Sorry, but that is exactly what that profile is pal, get a clue).

Come back in your next life and tell me what experience has taught YOU: I already detest Humanity and quite frankly .... psychopathic, unicellular organisms like you have not changed my mind ... and quite frankly, won't.

Hate to break this to you Chris ... I frankly don't give a damn how old a person is: I treat people the way they deserve to be treated: If it were allowed here, I'd treat you the way I believe you deserve to be treated as well.

.....

In the future ... keep your BS to yourself: You want to talk down to someone? Find someone who'll roll over for you.

I find it difficult to take serious anyone named like a comic book character "Solar Legion".

I just read your little "About Me" on your profile, and I am laughing so hard here.

It's so funny how in the past 48 hours attack dogs come to the forums and start screaming at people and then when you check their inworld profiles they are busy declaring themselves: "Kind and Compassionate".

GO GO COMIC BOOK GUY - UP UP AND AWAYYYYYYYYY http://www.freewebs.com/solarlegion/index.htm

New? Take my own advice ... ?

Here's a thought: Get. Used. To. It.

I'm not in the habit of being 'nice' to people like you or him.

Your experience may have been different: Guess what? That does not make your OPINION 'right'.

Yep, I'm a bit aggressive when it comes to my own opinions .... I'm even more aggressive when someone decides their opinion is the Infinite Truth Above All Others.

Isn't it hard to be a mentor when you "Detest Humanity"?

OHH i see, according to your profile the Mentor tag makes you "nice".

Interesting. So any other time you are just some anger ball pissed off at how society treats the age jump from 17 to 18?

Maybe you should pretend you are wearing your Mentor tag here and maybe you can be NICE in your discussions here too! :D

Kid - and yes, you ARE acting like a kid now - my user name has no bearing on anything whatsoever ...

As for my Profile?

Guess what? There are always exceptions to everything: You're one of them. Get over it and get used to it. You don't DESERVE kindness or compassion .... and neither does Chris.

Prove it otherwise, child.

So we have to Get. Used. To. Your. B.S..??
