Did you obey all the rules that adults laid down for you when you were 14?

Doesn't mean you don't have to pay when you get caught or in this case out yourself.

Yet, another YANK into adult hood.

Especially if your parents enlist you when you are 17 (and yes that happens - the military does allow parents to enlist their kids at 17 and ship them off).

I knew a few guys who got the "Army or Jail" option from a judge.

They are working on legislating that in. HR 2336, the "It's not your fault " Act. It will be buried in the next Stimulus Package. Right under the bill mandating solar powered toothbrushes.

However, I still contend that in real life you are not suddenly yanked out of one existence and placed into another and it should not be so in Second Life.

I would guess you have never been to military recruit training.

Yes, that sucks.

Some states still allow that. In other states, like California, it is not allowed in legal writing, but a judge can make a side deal with a recruiter.

I agree there are life changing events that force major changes but these events still take place within the framework of ones life. There are only two life changes that are complete - birth and death.

ps

In no particular order I have been shot, run over by a truck, been married, become a parent, lost a partner to disease, diagnosed with incurable disease... I do not need a lecture on major life changes.

You can't control Real Life Change, it's Life. There is no trauma in joining what is basically a glorified computer game. At least there shouldn't be. As far as leaving friends, that happens in RL all the time, if you really want to stay on that road. You make new friends, again part of growing up. Besides, it's not like you can't stay in touch with those friends until they too are old enough for the Main Grid.

And we do not need a lecture on how you don't think one is yanked into adult hood when the majority of us, so far, think you are wrong.

Good Day.

Most high schools, I know of, frown upon former students coming and hanging out with their younger friends. One day they can eat lunch with Susie and Jimmy, the next they are arrested for trespassing.

Of course not. I don't disagree with that. Point was that a 14 yr old sneaking in here is only acting like most teens do, breaking rules, going places and trying out things they're not considered old enough for. Personally I don't want to see *any* kids under 18 on the Main Grid.

18 is too young, 30 would be a better age.

Who exactly are 'we' and 'us' and who made you spokesperson for the entire forum?

I'd suggest a poll, but it's not Friday.

The horse is dead I will flog it no longer.

As a former TGer who transfered from the Teen Grid to the Main Grid last December 2008 I do have a few points to make about this. At this point Linden Lab have not made any official statements or announcements about a grid merge.

I have been talking to some of the Lindens and they said it's still under review and it could take months-years for this to happen. However saying that, I do think this recent upcoming changes to adult content might speed things up. I think merging the grids would completly destory the Teen Grid and SL would get worse because of many factors.

I joined the Teen Grid in late 2006 and the overall TG experience for everyone was great until 2008 when things went down hill. The Teen Grid growth was great to see over the years and I met so many cool friends.

Before I transfered to the Main Grid, a few teens created The Grid Merge group and over 700 teens joined that group and there have been protests too. The showcase tab on the Teen Grid only showed 5 places to visit which were randomly selected by LL. There was hardly any events and the prices was high for land. I remember the TSL Office Hours only had 3 Lindens or so visiting weekly and over time they decided to not come any more. The TSL Mentors group was closed down and recently I've been recieving emails from my friends recently saying it's boring because there is nothing to do.

Future: I think Linden Lab should keep the grids separate and focus more on fixing the Teen Grid and make TSL more accessible worldwide for registering etc. Linden Lab should forget about this grid merge idea and improve TSL.

NO GRID MERGE!

For information about Teens transfering to the Main Grid when they turn 18 visit: https://secure-web8.secondlife.com/support/ type in "teen" press Search. There are TSL KB articles explaining what happens during transfering etc.

Wrong.

Raise some kids and you can see where the yanking takes place.

Most notably the part where you are tried as an ADULT for crimes.

Yes you are suddenly yanked. 1 day you are not an adult, the next you are. 1 day you have a home, the next (with many kids turned 18) you don't.

1 day you can have sex with your 17 year old boy friend, and the next day he is now 18 and it is statutory rape...That's a yank if i ever seen one.

There is no transition except when you turn 12 and 99% of places stop treating you like a child and giving you free stuff at the restaurant, amusement park, etc..

Sorry, but that is a legal process and has NOTHING to do with biology, mentality or any other factor which can truly measure maturity.

At present the ENTIRE legal system is screwed up when it comes to dealing with varying levels of maturity .... and punishes those who mature faster, as well as those they interact with.

For Christ's sake .... I can remember being fourteen and talking to one of my friends - over thirty mind you! - about why her husband was an ass and the affair she thought he might be having .... and a few very sexual reasons why she suspected this as well (certain things he was not doing anymore in the bedroom).

I can remember hitting twenty and still having friends under the age of eighteen ... simply because they were far more mature than those their own age.

That said .... the two grids need to remain separate for now ....

Humanity has a long way to go before we are ready to treat people in a proper manner for their level of maturity ... not what we THINK their level SHOULD be.

We will have to wait and see what happens next and I hope its the right move.

Your post sounds more like a reason to merge the grids or shut down the teen grid.

How about one foot in the grave?

Age .... has little to do with one's maturity: Just with the potential for experience.

LOL. Whatever.

Your parents should not have let you "hang out" with 30+ year old women discussing their private marital affairs like adultery, with you - especially not telling YOU a 14 year old about the things the husband was no longer doing in the bedroom.

LOL. can we say "Mary Kay Letourneau"???

Sorry your little example means nothing except you were having conversations with adults who should have known better to bring you into the topic. Apparently your parents should have kept you on a shorter leash. :p
