And what if this person is the ALT of another famous land baron ?

(s)he can afford these things.
If the first initial fits...

If it's an effort to corner the market, it's just not possible for one guy to do (several have tried). You have seven days to claim your sim, but 40+ sims in five days is whacked out, even if you can spread out the tier somehow. Perhaps the person is going to let go of some of the ones he got at higher prices a few days ago and eat the $100 restocking fee.

As a side note, the real estate mogul with the most pull in SL is buying mainland sims again and paying the highest prices for them over the last few days.

How can even a group of people corner this particular market? The potential land available in SL is infinite correct? All LL has to do is place an order for another 200 servers using the auction prices and tier fees the previous winners are paying.

Or, is there a theoretical limit to how many servers can be accepted into SL?

Nope. Some folks just tried to time things right. They have not been successful. You are right, LL has the market cornered and controlled and always will. Witness today's lack of sims to auction. Just when it was getting low enough for me to seriously consider buying one.

They could put 20 more out there at any time Raymond. No way to know.

With all this buying, perhaps I should invest in whatever company LL is buying their servers from. :)

One clue that it won't be for a day or two is that they have not named more of the Corsica sims yet. They usually name them a day or two before they bring them to auction.

I could have sworn I saw at least one in purple, still named Corsica_1234. Might have been looking at the next sim though.

Unfortunately, selling sims has become a significant revenue source for LL. What that means is that they aren't going to drop it off the financial statements. They basically can't stop selling it now. However in a logical and free market, the buying of new sims would eventually dry up. Particularly when an artificial minimum price is set. What happens when there are 40,000 people online and there are 40,000 sims.......... Lots of prairie and ghost land.

You can't corner the market on a renewable resource.... unless you control the resource. LL is the only one cornering the land market and building in a minimum profit through the minimum price.

Bidding through a shill to drive up prices in your own auction yourself is fraud.....BUT, in most cases, its the certain suspected individual that actually wins the auctions. It would only be in an instance when someone else overpays for a sim because someone drove up the price. Being a middle man makes sense actually if you have a certain amount of inventory turnover. But when you buy more inventory than you sell..... that is Bankruptcy 101.

Lastly, I find it inconceivable that someone with that kind of disposable income would sit around buying this stuff and carving it up, rather than....say.... buy a real company and make real profits...... or just be a playboy and sit on the beach.

Ok think in terms of sport. You have your top division and then you have the feeder leagues. So the top division land barons sell the land to the next division of land barons who sell onto the yadda yadda yadda until I end up with 1024M parcel next to a casino and then Lindens help me out because I'm nice to Robin sometimes!

Yeah, that appears to be a glitch on the map.

Most of tonight's sims are going to a variety of different names, many of whom are new to the auction page. There is no shortage of people who would take a whole sim once prices come down a bit like they have.

One nice thing to see is one of the biggest, and bestest brokers from the days of yore bought one. Welcome back to the fun and games, CP.

A mix of prices today. Of course the one I've had my eye on for a week was Fenitola. It's a narrow channel of water between an island and a land mass. The water is so shallow you can raise the land and create more beachfront across pretty much the whole sim.

Speenu (128,128) Mature 65536m US$2368.00 Aug-09-07
Fenitola (128,128) Mature 65536m US$2672.00 Aug-09-07

the low end is at 7.2 atm.
12 hours ago i unloaded a shitty busted up 128 primland parcel on a land bot. it picked up the parcel once i got to 6.8. not a very wide margin there at all, i wonder how this is affecting them.

hows this for sleazy?

Of course the rest of us are too smart to pay $295 per month for one chunk of virtual land let alone 20 :)
Maybe these people would feel comfortable paying $80k per month land rates on a $480k block of land but the rest of us don't.

Congrats to my favorite land broker for getting a gorgeous waterfront protected sim tonight for the lowest auction price since the dump started. Smart, creative, beautiful and into land. What more can a guy ask for? Sigh.

I've just been up there.
The competition will have to buy that land to keep talking the prices up.
How bad? They'll still be buying it from her for at less per metre than they paid at auction for their own.
And this isn't your vast prairies of grief-pregnant stuff that's on sale for more elsewhere in Corsica.

Interesting times!

Oh! I chatted to somebody up there who thinks Raymond's a sweetie ;)
