I've been going around looking at all the 512/1024 plots for sale in the current 7.8 to 8.2 range and they all suck! They are all in terrible locations, beside ad farms, oddly shaped, beside large ugly structures, steep hillside, etc... Who will want to buy them?

I'd have to say LL is making a concerted effort to lower the base price for mainland. It wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to break the backs of at least some landbot runners while they're at it, just as the large increase in supply of mainland sims 6 months ago ran many mini-barons out of business. Back then, I doubt most mini-barons lost money; at worst, they lost on a small percentage of their holdings, but were left with a generous profit overall. The combination of more work required, more risk perceived, and smaller profit margins is what led people like me to divest ourselves of land. Those same pressures are now being applied to landbot runners. Really the only thing that hurts bot runners is other bot runners. At least these days there are more of them so people have less chance of the evil L---baron M-rlin nabbing their mistakes and refusing to give them back. _____________________

They are all in terrible locations, beside ad farms, oddly shaped, beside large ugly structures, steep hillside, etc... Who will want to buy them? People looking to expand current holdings in their home sim EX: I'd like another 512 in Svarvarsson, but I don't really care *where* I'm not buying it for the looks- I've got a nice 512 lot for my storefront (okay so it's not fantastic, I've got that nasty spinner I can't buy out... but it's well placed otherwise) and I'd just be buying for prims. Ideally it would connect with my other 2 lots for a beautiful wide expanse of land, but the ones I already have not well situated in the sim for connecting. (I've got cutters to one side, end user lots to the other side, and a wide track of land to the back that the owner appears to simply be sitting on... and linden "road" out front. The other lot is surrounded on 3 sides by ad lots and the 4th side is far enough downhill that I'd be building on a difficult incline) Or, people who want to build in the sky. If you're okay with a skybox, all manner of ugliness on the ground and bad terrain can be forgiven. |

There are only spinning signs on 97.9% of the mainland. ![]() I hate ad spammers with every virtual fiber of my being. Not a single ad in my sim, woot woot. I would tell you the sim name but i want to buy more of it myself when i can afford it and the prices are already higher than in most places, so ill have to keep this to myself. Man my virtual self is lucky, the first plot i rented was from the best landlord ever (now also a very good friend) and the first plot i bought is fantastic too. _____________________

LOL, that won't stop the barons greed from bidding against each other tooth & nail to get every sim available, "have....... so many... unsold.... sims...but.....must....keep buying.....can't let residents..... buy direct..... grid map needs..... more yellow.................." ![]() Tedd, you have a very good point. And of course, I too think that this is probably the reason why Linden Labs keep releasing SIMs. Greed too... but that' s obvious - although probably not to the average Joe. ( I have nothing against people called Joe btw, 1st they haven't chosen... 2nd, it's a common name we use to describe people who believe everything we tell them... 3rd, but you knew that lolAny one sharp would take a look at the auction figures on the link below to understand what is going on really: http://cosyhome.org/cgi-bin/auc_statistics/auction-stats.html _____________________

I see base price is down to L$7.9/sq. this morning, and several sims have gone for less than $1800 USD at auction. I realise they're pretty mountainous, but Harbourne (went for $1702 USD) isn't that bad with it's gentle slope running down towards the sea. Looks easy enough to build on. Even some of those sims on the mountain tops are pretty flat, with atmospheric cloud just a few metres above.

Are you under the impression that if the land barons don't bid on a sim, some end-user resident will purchase it at or near the starting-bid price of $1,250? I'm guessing there are many more end-user residents wanting much smaller parcels of land then that. Of course, greed is with us and here to stay. If land barons stop buying whole sims at auction, mini-barons will just start buying subdivided parcels low and marking them up. From an end-user perspective, it's better when the bigger barons continue buying ever-increasing numbers of sim, driving the price down at that early a point. |

A well-known broker has listed a half sim's worth of his hilly granite sim at L$7.7. I watched as a guy bought up a 512 and carved it into ad space in a matter of seconds. Disgusting.
Still, none of the below US$1800 auctions have hit the market yet. The gent who got the lion's share tonight now has well over 30 sims that he's won in the last three days. Doubt he wants to pay tier on all of them. How low will it go? _____________________

"On the mainland, every time a parcel of land is sold, it is charged tier again. " This happens on the private estates too (I'm guessing), just a different person getting multiple tier $ when the parcels sell. No, not at all. ONE person pays tier to LL for the private island. So LL gets $295/month for each island. Whereas they can collect much more from a mainland sim, as demonstrated above. People who rent from that island manager pay tier to that manager. This sort of rental does NOT count towards tier costs to LL for the renter. |

I guess the best thing to do now is to sit, watch and do nothing
Not even triggering the starting bid. ![]() |

Some random thoughts during this correction:
08-08-2007 08:26
-Don't buy crap land in a spam-filled area. Now is the time to get a good-looking parcel at a good price.
-In the long run, it's still the tier that is your main expense. Even with this drop, you're only saving a few bucks, unless you are buying large sized plots. - All LL needs to do is stop the flow of sims to the auction and prices will slowly creep up again. From my exploration of Corsica, I see two more immediate dumps in our future, and then a break. Check it out for yourself. -If you ever wanted your own mainland sim to control and enjoy, the next two days are a good time to grab one (don't forget the monthly tier!) -Someone who works for a very famous SL real estate lady has been buying sims over the last two days. This real estate lady would not be buying mainland again unless she knew that prices would be heading up again eventually. -Resellers can still get good prices if the land they are selling is quality. No reason to panic sell. -A bunch of casino land owners have not hit their tier and unloaded their land yet. -A lot of people who can't get their cash out of Ginko or have lost cash in the WSE have not hit their tier and unloaded their land yet. -Smart barons who have been out of the market for a while will be watching all this with interest. All it take is two or three of my old baron buddies with deep pockets to quickly bring prices back up to where they were a week ago. -There are a lot of sims that were bought over the last four days but have not been brought to market. Very fun to watch, unless you are the guy with the 33+ sims. I love the smell of 7.6 in the morning! ![]() _____________________

-If you ever wanted your own mainland sim to control and enjoy, the next two days are a good time to grab one (don't forget the monthly tier!) I'm not confident enough with the market to jump in there, it's awfully tempting but I think prices will fall further and not go back upto the levels we had a couple of weeks ago for quite some time. |

I will buy land only if it's free and I have to pay only tier fees and no premium account Actually, that makes a lot of sense. If LL gave away a 512m plot completely free without even the need for a premium account they could get more people addicted to prims who might upgrade to premium just to get the nice piano in the house. ![]() To prevent people from signing up for accounts just to obtain and then sell the land--they could place restrictions on it. For instance, make it so that freebie plot could not be sold to anyone, joined, or grouped. |

Does anyone have a link to the online site for searching mainland sales? They got hit with the bot ban/time out a while back IIRC.
Now I can't find my link to the site. |
