Blue pop up:

Max Herzog would like to hunt you down like a dog.

Animate your character?
Yes/No

I think your surly indifference may be what's called for here.

:D

I just scared MY dogs I laughed so hard. :D

"Do not IM me under any circumstances, or Max will hunt you down like a dog."

Yes, that.

I would like a world where the common denominator in profiles is the Herzog Hunting Down Like A Dog service.

Darn, no pictures or av names.

I think I'll put this in MY profile:

But that leaves me wondering what kind of satisfaction can be obtained from Ms Blue in Hue...

/me wonders what kind of IMs she will receive after this starts going into people's profiles ...

Dogs are good hunting animals. Loyal, tough, eager. Yes, it is good to hunt with a dog. It is good that you include your dog when you are out hunting people. Gives a friendly air to the activities. And if you are lucky, the dog will rip out their throat before you are able to get into range of their whining (the hunted, not the whining of the dog, whiny beasts though they may be).

I like that sentiment, something like that on one's profile would be very intimidating to those who take it literally.
Can I have it on my profile? Hehe

Uhm- you are NOT a zombie?

Depends on yer definition ;)

Come to think of it... possibly.

Walking thru life with a blank stare, doing what I'm told to do at work or by "authorities" while never questioning it (openly), mmmmmm.... yea pretty darn close. ;)

I never assume a Sl profile to have any connotation to RL...many come to SL to be what they can't be in RL. As for RL tabs in profiles, I never look at them.

Exactly! Do you know how many "Vampire/Goth" types are SO clean cut & corporate looking in RL? LOL! I found out I'm one of the few who wasnt!!

One person got kinda pissed that I was able to dress in RL as they do in SL (not at work tho- I'm not *that* crazy!). :D

One thing that SL is lacking is- for lack of a better way of putting it- dynamic profiles. That is, profiles that will display different information to different kinds of people. Maybe the information changes based on time of day, whether the person is on your friends list or not, shares a group with you, is in the same sim with you.

Torley showed in his (I think) latest tutorial how to make the most of your website tab and display your own html version of a profile page by pointing to a website. Seems you can do a lot with that option, even if you keep it simple and avoid dynamic pages.

Well, I *was* going to ask one of them about the land as discussed - the region was unchanged since Saturday - but someone bought a couple of parcels right in a spot where their high wall - not set transparent on the outside of course - totally blocks the awesome view. Looks like someone else had a payday.

pfft

There's a lot of cheap land around, but finding one that isnt on a steep slope, bordering banlines or ad towers, in a laggy region (two great places - one snowy and one beachy - were like walking through slag), or someone's neighboring build partially sitting on the sale land... It's not easy for homesteaders to take back the Mainland, is it? LOL

Tod69: the thing is about people in RL vs SL is you're dealing with their persona. You never know how much of their RL ideals or lifestyle match what you interact with them inworld.

The profiles that intimidate me are the ones that tell you not to IM them for any reason ever. For instance, I wanted to IM a builder once to tell her how much I enjoyed her work, but when I checked her profile, it said something like, 'if you're not on my friends list IM's are automatically muted,' so I kept quiet. I can understand having rules about contacting you during business hours, but I don't get the reasoning behind the ones that don't want to be contacted at all, period.

I seen one of this freebie content maker that makes really nice things say that in their profile.
I figure its like this if you got lot going on, creating, maybe illness, then you got people out of blue iming you about things you don't know, friends iming at same time for some people it becomes just too much and extremely draining.
Maybe some people can multi-task, deal with multiple distracted and not have it interfere with whatever is going on but there is lot of us it does get to much.
If I am in space in world with more then 2 people talking, or 2 separate conversations going on it is too much for me. Luckily I don't experience that much but I can imagine how stressful it would be to someone who makes really good things, is constantly having to deal with request from strangers.
Not everyone is social butterfly here.

I have a good friend who has a mistress, and my friend's profile says "If you have a problem with me, please contact [the mistress]."

:-)

My friend has something similar but it says...

If you have any problems with me, please IM one of my Mistresses and she will tell you what you did wrong....

always makes me laugh

If you're intimidated just by checking a profile, how have you gotten this far in life?

I don't believe the op is serious about this, how can it be?

Just my point.

Time and time again you see these type of messages written in their profiles. SL's self called "designers."

You're good enough to spend cash on their wares but don't you dare call them. On one of the biggest hair shops you'll find a message similar to this on the profile of the female who runs the place just like in so many others. Very naughty place.

Bunch of wimps.

If you found Brad Pitt's phone number on the internet, would you call him and tell him that you enjoyed his movies?. Despite it being a nice gesture, do you think he'd appreciate you calling him?.

This is the problem with SL. The IM mode is basically a virtual cell phone and everybody has your number. It's annoying and it does force some content creators to become quite prickly or just plain reclusive.

There's one content creator that used to have lots of psychotic rambling in his profile which I always felt was a smoke screen to scare people away. and I suppose it's far more creative than "Please don't message me".

Which would you find more intimidating - "I LIKE KILlING PEOPLE!" or a "Please don't message me"?. I suspect in your case it's the latter ;)

In my current state, my RP has a history of abuse and home-imprisonment. Now that she's escaped from being locked up, she resides in her own underground hide-out and randomly wanders from place to place just trying to get by. (^_^)

Well, it's original.

In fact, I've been inspired to finally create an original backstory for myself. I've worked most of it out; just finishing up the particulars.

That's why you were taking that survey.

You mean as far as sitting in front of our computers, playing with cartoon replicas of ourselves for hours on end?

HA! No, that was just a passive-aggressive protest in the guise of a parody.

If you take a look at the SL AR violation page on a regular basis, you'll notice that residents get in trouble for this all the time.

There are ways to handle this sort of thing, and ways not to handle it. One musician I'm a fan of takes the time to answer every email and MySpace comment he gets... that doesn't mean he gets into long conversations or answers intrusive personal questions. His replies can take a day or so, but they're always polite, often humorous, and always express his appreciation for his fans. It's a simple way to make the fans happy and help them feel more of a connection to him... which keeps them coming back.

In the same way, I appreciate content creators in SL who take the time to politely answer messages, even if it isn't right away. It makes me think they care about their customers' opinions, and it makes me more likely to come back again. I'm perfectly fine with it if they prefer notecards, or want to keep customer contact to certain hours, or state that they may not be able to reply right away. The 'don't IM me for any reason' ones just make me think the person doesn't give a damn about the people they're supposedly creating things for.

On seeing the title, I was hoping this thread would be an account of someone who had fallen foul of a profile that said "Mess with my sissy and believe me, I'll hunt you down like a dog" and actually lived to tell the tale.

My version of this reads (paraphrased):

"Some people's profiles threaten all sorts of dire harm if you attack their friends. Actually, I trust you not to attack my friends. And anyway, they know how to look after themselves, so I'd be the least of your worries."
