Tube TV's Back when drug stores/pharmacies were a separate entity from grocery stores (SupeRX, anyone?) -- I remember drug stores having the big tube-testing displays. Back when Boxcar Willie came on your choice of 8-track or LP. ![]() |

This ruling will have no impact on Age Verification at all. The rulling means that the US (where SL's servers are) cannot FORCE SL to use age verification. It dosn't mean the SL can't do it on its own.

The only reason I remember the Regan meeting with Gorbachev is because we were stationed in Keflavik when it happened. It was kind of amazing standing next to the base's back fence, waving as the two would leave the base. Also was a big mess because they'd shut down traffic in the base.. and some of it happened while I was school.
Anyone who remembers the old style remotes that used metal rods with hammers that sent sound to the TV to change channels is OLD. I only saw one of these at the job I worked, where an older lady brought in her remote for repair. The hammer simply needed properly placed. I imagine that TV's using this form of remote changed channels with little Poopsie barked just right. I remember rotary phones. Big clunky things that you had to stick a finger in the hole and make the thing go around. My parents still have a couple of specimens in their shed. Oh, and I remember 3-2-1 Contact and Mr Wizard. I remember Tang coming in glass pitchers (I have one of them!) and I remember Pacman, both when it first came out and then the cartoon... I remember when video games were red blobs shooting green blobs at blue blobs.... _____________________

Some random thoughts:
- acts and proposals often have extra junk packaged with them. To see the was was exactly proposed in the child protection act would be enlighten us to the decision. - I am all for mandatory age verification for mature sites (Not the word I'd use. Adults here are not necessarily engaged in mature activities or behavior just because there's sex involved. Cursing itself is usually considered immature). It doesnt matter the avatar. - Class distinction has no excuse for letting kids access inappropriate sites. If they can afford a computer and Internet access, they can afford the time to create logins for the family and use parental lockout and let the kid play offline games or visit selected sites. Raudf: I've known people incl relatives with remotes in the 60s, but the one you describe I have never seen unless it was used in low budget sci fi movies as a prop. Hey Bill Cosby was also on the Electric Company ![]() _____________________

Raudf: I've known people incl relatives with remotes in the 60s, but the one you describe I have never seen unless it was used in low budget sci fi movies as a prop. In 1957 a group of engineers developed the Zenith "Space Command," a wireless remote control using ultrasonic waves. The problem with the ultrasonic control was that clinking metal, such as dog tags, could affect the TV set. High frequencies sometimes also made dogs bark. The ultrasonic remote was used for two decades until engineers discovered a better way to operate TV's, the infrared remote control. Seriously, I didn't know they existed, until I actually had one in my hands. The thing didn't have batteries, just three metal rods with hammers inside. It was simple to repair and thank goodness it wasn't the TV. That was well past the 10 years part carry limit. I remember when Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony was introduced.. the first time around. I remember when Play Family toys were a choking hazard. I remember when MTV came out. I also remember a time when it played nothing but music videos. And the other day, I said something about cassette tapes and my 6 year old child chimed up, "Mommy, what's a cassette?" *headdesk* I feel old. _____________________

How about Chatty Cathy? Fizzies? PF Flyers? Twinkle cereal promoted by Bullwinkle? How about that projection thing by Kenner which basically was a cheap plastic slideshow you aimed at the ceiling? I forgot the name. Everyone had the thing but me. _____________________

GEEZ!! I remember when my parents had the old style remote with the metal rods. Big Old Wood Cabinet TV. We still have the stereo- big 6' long wood cabinet, killer speakers, 8 track player/Record player and AM/FM Radio.
In the hallway of my parents house, by the garage, is still an ugly red dial phone. Since its somewhat attached to the plaster walls it cant be removed. I remember watching a friend of mine trying to use it and not being able to figure it out ![]() _____________________

Thing is, ask a Brit about any of those and you'd think they were underage. I've never heard of any of 'em! (save perhaps Bullwinkle - of Rocky & Bullwinkle? Vaguely heard of that...) Only thing that comes to mind for the other side of the ocean: Benny Hill and Monty Python. ![]() _____________________

![]() ![]() Oh...I loved Benny Hill!! And The Young One's....anyone remember that series on MTv?? LOL Ok as for age verification...the responsibility is on both ends, period. I'm not a parent so I'm not going to wax on about this one. But, I do recall being out in CO visiting my brother and seeing my 13yo nephew's myspace page. I asked my brother if he knew what he was up to on the web and if he kept an eye on things. He said he did. My brother is both liberal and very 'aware'. He doesn't hover over his sons shoulder every minute.....but he's also got a great friendship with him......when I see them together I get the impression there isn't anything that kid wouldn't tell his father. And it's true. Doesn't mean he wont try to get away with stuff......but I'm a firm believer that healthy relationships between parent and child are a hell of a good start. (now I have no clue what goes on when my nephew is at his mother's house) that wasn't waxing was it? LL is wise to protect their own butts with age verification... but it sure as heck isn't fool proof as we all know. But if I ran a business like this...you bet your arse I'd age verify by whatever means were legit and best implemented. |

For me, it was the View Master projector. The one where you put in your View Master disks and showed them on the ceiling for all to enjoy. Only thing was, it'd lose focus at the drop of a pin and that thing put out a lot of heat. Not surprising, since I think it was the same bulb used in the Easy Bake ovens. _____________________

Gods, ya'll are nothing but a bunch of wet-behind-the-ears greenhorns. * I remember Howdy Doody and Sky King * I remember when Clint Eastwood was Rowdy Yates on Rawhide * I remember Raymond Burr when his character could walk * I remember being too young to watch Outer Limits because my mother was sure it would scar my psyche * I remember when the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show * I watched Star Trek when it was a new series on NBC I can't remember what happened last week though.... I remember coming home to the test pattern (complete with the Indian Chief in the middle), waiting for the Mickey Mouse show to come on (still have a crush on Annette Funicello). Captain Kangaroo when he looked too young for the job. I remember Jack Paar's submarine looking down either Eva or Zsa Zsa's cleavage. Probably both. My first chosen career path, derailed by my first chosen wife... Telephones with party lines. Very first with a ring handle to get the operator (really small town). U.S. postal delivery - twice a day (same small town). Rumors in high school that you could get high on marigold seeds (you could get very sick). I remember when Tang was supposed to be good for you. Yeah, yeah and I walked to school ten miles in my barefeet because shoes weren't invented until I was in high school, which began in fourth grade because there simply wasn't that much to learn back then... |

I have verified my age using my driving license and guess what?.... nope your wrong i have not received any spam what so ever. I do wonder when SL is bringing in the no one not verified being allowed in mature areas
I have though found several underage kids in very adult sims and on talking to them they have confessed to being 14 and a little older. They claim the teen grind is immature, funny i have found the same thing in many mature sims. They say they are very mature for their age and enjoy the adult activities, mind you the 14 year old was looking for a Master in a BDSM area. I feel if people do not want to verify their age as you do with any adult site i have been to then fine but you become limited to only PG areas. I see some say it is the parents responsibility to be sure their kids are not in adult areas and i agree but fact is kids cant be supervised all the time and many kids are more comp lit than adults and can hide they are on SL when the parent is near. As a parent i do feel i am responsible to stop children being exploited and even if they come in of their own will does not mean they are exploited . Some simple ways to avoid being in a position of being with someone who may be under age is if they do not have payment info used on their profile then dont jump in the sack with them till you are 100% sure they are not. |

Why Beebo I never knew! I wasn't around yet for Howdy Doody or Sky King (watched the latter in the museum in the 80s) but I watched the original Shari Lewis shows and that garsharful Kookla Fran and Ollie. Why ever did they model a serpent after Milton Berle? When they introduced the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, I asked my parents "Why are those people screaming? Don't they like the music?" and mom said: "Because they're crazy dear." The irony was several years later catching the summer rerun of Star Trek's pilot episode with Sally Kellerman while visiting her in a mental ward. It was fate! We watched it every Thursday (at home) from then on and then Fridays near the end. It was actually a popular show among the kids in my school, so hearing later on how it was a flop while Lost in Space was a hit so confused me. btw my psyche WAS scarred from watching Outer Limits. We also had in our area a couple of local oddities: Mister Bingle was this snowman marionette with an ice cream cone hat. Every year between TG and XMas the local dept store ran a half hour show every weekday afternoon. Johnny's Follies starred this guy Johnny in a striped jacket and white pants and straw hat, who tapdanced around at the start and end to Hail Hail the Gang's All Here, had a peanut type gallery of kids like the usual genre stuff, and hosted assorted short hanna-barbera cartoons. And lest we forget that Danny Kaye hosted Wizard of Oz each year AND we saw Mary Martin in Peter Pan each year as well. When did TV get so slick? _____________________

We use Agelock on our adult themed site here in SL and will continue to do so until forced to use the LL verification system, which at best is still buggy and not everyone over 18 is able to verify with it as has been seen in the forums here.
For those of you running Adult Themed areas do go take a look at Agelock here: http://www.agelock.net/ I am in no way associated with it other than using it for our site ![]() Just my 2 cents ![]() _____________________

I use a child like avatar most of the time.
Some parcels have a mature status, and still I can get in. My character measures 1.40 meters, so a height check is my only enemy. Most clubs simply allow me in, since I'm really 26 and don't gain sex activities using a child character. I'm there for music, not pixel-sex, since sex+children always seems to be the problem with on-line communities. But there is no real age check here. My brother, who is 17 recently wanted to join, but doesn't want to use the teen grid, since it's boring to him. He just altered his age, and made him appear 18. No check can save you since the only form of authentication is your e-mail. Which in turn proves nothing. If a child deliberately fakes his/her age, and joins a mature parcel, then, well, nobody can do anything. It's the parent's responsibility to keep their kids in line...on-line. And it's the adult's responsibility to keep an eye out. Just like real life anyway. _____________________

I wonder why anyone would want to have a child like AV and if they do why they would want to go to adult areas I have both a child av and a adult av so I can answer at least your first question. I have a child av to escape the responsibileties and expectations of my everyday life, as a child av I can enjoy life wondering what new things the day will bring. For the seccond question I guess you have to look at the RL ageplay scene, unlike the SL ageplay scene nobody even thinks twice if it is wrong to engange in sexual activity while playing/being dressed up as child, afterall both are clear they are over 18 and concenting, that said the problem in SL is that the costumes look to "real" and the lack of knowing who is at the other end of the screen changes the emotional effects somewhat. Guess that is why there is clear separation between non sexual ageplay and sexual ageplay in SL, the first being far more emotional based. |
