From: Sally Silvera I'm surprised he lasted that long, I think I might have suggested he take his enthusiasm elsewhere a bit sooner Having said that, I've never muted anyone, nor felt the need to. I was really entertained by his efforts up until that point, but there are a lot of people who seem more worried in how you use SL than themselves. Mike is right, though, they aren't worth too much trouble.

Is SL so stagnant and limited for you people that you're STILL talking about voice?!
I was recently discriminated against for using voice and not being an underaged, married cheater with a different gender than my av. Voice is tearing us apart!
On a side note: SURPRISE BITCHES! (except the ladies)

From: CodeZero Bulloch a) do you use it? (I do) B) Is voice a blessing or a curse and why?
C) Do you actually talk on it or just listen?
D) does it bother you why others dont talk with it?
E) (Off topic) Whats the most distubing thing youve seen in a movie? (For me its Big Mommas House 2, when he is in suit and wearing a cheedleading uniform, I wish I didnt catch that just now) A: No. B: Both, it can be whatever people choose to make it, including a griefing tool. C. Neither, I'm HoH and it gets very exhausting trying to understand what's being said after a short while. D. Why should it? I'm neither paranoid nor judgmental over why people wouldn't want to use it. It's their choice to make freely. E. Michael Moore

From: someone hmm i find it very curious that you acknowledge that its everyone's choice to use voice, yet in your next sentence cast suspicions upon that persons choice not to use it. it's this more than anything that makes me leery of using voice at all. the oh you must be hiding something attitude.
maybe, it's not all about you and your suspiscions sue, maybe its your general attitude in those two little lines above, that would and has put me off voicing, at least with you.
Well, there are a number of people who are not what they want you to think they are. I have met a number of them. Some have become friends, some have confided who they really were, and that did not change our friendship. I was not pointing a finger at you, or anyone in particular. If you feel otherwise, there might just be a reason, any reason. I think that there is a difference between "wondering" and being suspicious. Don't put words into my mouth, thank you.

B) Is voice a blessing or a curse and why?No opinion, it doesn't cause lag as far as I can tell so to each their own.
C) Do you actually talk on it or just listen? Neither

E) (Off topic) Whats the most distubing thing youve seen in a movie? Toss up between "THE" scene from Borat (if you've seen it you know which one I'm talking about) and the entire Silent Hill Movie

It's not even necessarily about that. I've had no surprises in voice, other than occasionally to hear quite a lovely voice (horrible noises, griefers, whining nasal morons and the like are expected). What I never see here is the potential that voice gives you to have so much clearer a sense of who you are talking to. I think a lot of people also have made such a public statement of not using voice that even if they wanted to, they'd find it hard to back down and admit it. Really, the only people who want me to use voice are my friends, and even then mostly so they can just build or whatever without typing. I've even been known to go park myself on the sofa and chat away in world whilst watching telly. But then I can multitask cos I am a girl

As a guy (and I even "play one on SL" , the very last thing I want while building or scripting is to have to also listen and talk. Thank god for text chat in those cases, so there's at least some plausible excuse to cover the fact that I'm really just not paying attention to the conversation. And... well, folks have mentioned that they're led to wonder about the RL gender (or something) of those who don't use voice. In contrast, I'm led to wonder about the whole RL setting of those who *can* use voice: who actually lives in a world where they can devote much audio attention to SL, in an environment where speaking to the computer is even possible? That would be cool and immersive and all, but really, waiting for that opportunity would cut my daily in-world minutes to the single-digits, at best.

I never wait for anything, stuff happens or it doesn't. As they say - expect everything, be surprised at nothing. Actually ... to add a point. Where I work, the phones are all VOIP. I work with that as a medium every day ... I don't consider it talking to the computer when I use voice ... I consider it as a telephone as the lines and distinctions between both grow more and more blurred.

Give me a Bluetooth headset and a VoIP-connected laptop and I'm good-to-go. But I really do kinda suspect there's a gender difference in audio attention. (Coincidentally, a classic study of audio attention was done by somebody named "Cherry" )

Everyone is going to approach SL based upon their needs and experiences. Some will be more comfortable using parts of it than others, some may need to use features, some will not want to use them, for whatever reason. I'm not "suspicious" of any of these reasons, nor do I even "wonder" why. I don't think about it at all. I deal with the avatars at face value in world, that's it. Not everyone is a cutting edge technology user, not everyone has an extensive background in On Line worlds, Chat Rooms, gaming whatever. Some are just plain old folks like me. We will all choose the level of immersion that we are comfortable with, and we only need justify or explain it to ourselves.

QFT Voice is an *option* The only problem comes in when people dont get that the choice to voice or not to voice is the decision of each person, not the requester. No one should harass anyone for voicing. No one should harass anyone for not voicing. Making dispersions about someones gender / hidden marital status / age - if they don't voice would be harassing them.

From: Avanti Torok That is too funny! LOL !! I do *LOVE* it when you get people whining on and on and on about their problems, or about the lag, or airing their personal agendas at everyone. Hang on ... no I don't I also don't love the people who have it set so loud that your ears bleed. Then again some people here present in these here Forums had a nice text chat about dentists and root canals the other night which nearly made me faint. I think most of the people who are pro voice just get on with it without bothering anyone. This is why it comes across as so negative re voice on the Forums, which is after all meaning that if you're here you're not playing SL. Since I am no longer at work now ... /me fires up the beast and takes up the reins again .... giddyup!

Whew…I almost missed another thread about voice! a) do you use it? Yes B) Is voice a blessing or a curse and why? Neither. It's an option. C) Do you actually talk on it or just listen? I can actually do both D) does it bother you why others dont talk with it? Why would it? Are you fishing? E) (Off topic) Whats the most distubing thing youve seen in a movie? (For me its Big Mommas House 2, when he is in suit and wearing a cheedleading uniform, I wish I didnt catch that just now) It takes a lot to disturb me anymore but one scene that comes to mind is in the movie 50 First Dates with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. Sandler is working with this walrus and the walrus hurls on him…eeeeew! Anything with puke disturbs me

While this beats reading about real politics...
11-27-2007 11:17
I mean, come on...SOMETHING new that everyone wants to complain about has to have happened since last I was on here. Everyone seems to be cutting and pasting their arguments from the threads when voice was in beta!! Instead it's just... Possible Girl: guys say I'm a guy when I don't want to voice with them. It keeps happening so it's voice's fault and can't possibly be that I'm surrounding myself with these types of people because I secretly love drama. That should prove I'm a girl in the first place! Colette: discrimination is a problem with voice. There will be a caste system that will destroy the community. The forums have spoken!! Brenda: Squeeze is sexy! Michael: Anyone who doesn't use voice is afraid of the future and progress. You deserve to be discriminated against! e-Whore: this totally ruined my escort RP because I'm a dude RP Nerd: this will destroy all forms of roleplay and anyone that uses their voice sucks at writing and is illiterate techtarded: voice chat causes lag and SL is already laggy...even though I don't understand what causes lag and have a TRS-80. the people that don't respond to these threads: I don't give a shit about voice. NEXT... SqueezeOne: /me points and laughs. The lines have already been drawn, folks. This is already a non-issue in most of SL. The most important thing to know is that the mute button is your friend in these troubling times!
