From: Crunch Underwood ... what the hell is up with people always having it on? surely there is a button you can hold down to talk, gees lady i don't wanna hear you talking to your husband or yelling at your dam dog in RL
not to long ago there was some lady have a big cry in open voice chat about god knows what, she was quickly muted and i have not used voice chat since...well not in that sandbox anyway
some things need to be kept to yourself or done in IM You have the option of selecting Push to Talk mode (the mic is only live as long as you hold down the button) or Toggle mode (the mic stays live until you push the button a second time). I hate Toggle mode, for just the reason you point out. Unfortunately, the Preferences window doesn't make it really plain which is which, and too many people check the dang Toggle Mode box. As for the survey...I use Voice once a week, for about ten seconds, while teaching my Communications class. Otherwise, pffft.

From: CodeZero Bulloch a) do you use it? (I do) Rarely, and usually not speaking. Ruins the image I've created. From: someone B) Is voice a blessing or a curse and why?
Both... can cause images of avs to disappear, but at the same time create a closer and more realistic connection, as well as conveying emotion in your words From: someone C) Do you actually talk on it or just listen?
I talk only if I trust them completely From: someone D) does it bother you why others dont talk with it?
Nope From: someone E) (Off topic) Whats the most distubing thing youve seen in a movie? (For me its Big Mommas House 2, when he is in suit and wearing a cheedleading uniform, I wish I didnt catch that just now)
Ill just give a title.. Meet the Feebles

1. No, don't use it and probably never will 2. I'm sure it's a blessing to those who like it or need it for some reason. I wouldn't classify it as a curse, at all, really. 3. Neither 4. No 5. The most disturbing thing I saw in a movie was a whole entire movie called "Rabid", and saw it many, many years ago. It was just a horrible movie.

Oh okay then...... a) no b) none of the above c) neither d) no e) no idea I hate it when a post comes out so negative So I'll add something positive: a friend of mine has a very bad time typing, voice has proven a blessing for him. He still happily types with me though.

a) do you use it? Nope, and I never will.
B) Is voice a blessing or a curse and why? It's a minor annoyance, so far. To date I have had one client try rather hard to get me on Voice. I politely explained that it is impossible, as, my system and my home environment won't support it. We did the business via typed chat in-world, which was actually far beter, as it gave us both a written transcript of the discussion and precisely what was agreed upon.
C) Do you actually talk on it or just listen? Neither. It's never activated on my system. I don't WANT to hear someone's RL voice coming from their SL Avatar, not ever.
D) does it bother you why others dont talk with it? Nope, since I am one of the ones who refuse to use it.

A) Do you use it? Nope.
B) Blessing/curse? Don't care either way. I suppose it's handy for some people, like corporate types who have meetings here.
C) talk/listen? Neither.
D) Does it bother me when others refuse to use it? Nope. Don't care.
E) One of the opening scenes in "Carrie" where she gets her period in the shower at school, doesn't know what it is, and all the other girls throw sanitary pads at her.

I use voice daily. I love it! Definitely a blessing! I talk and listen. While everyone is free to choose whether to use voice or not, I prefer to talk with people who use voice. Those who refuse to use it, kinda makes me wonder what they're hiding.
Voice is particularly handy when you're trying to teach someone how to do something. talking is more natural than typing, and much faster. In voice, you can distinguish the tone of the convo, which is sometimes not easy to do in text.
The only time I prefer text, is when helping people who do not speak any of the languages I speak fluently.

How many times does voice have to come up a week before people will consider this topic a dead horse? Or are all of you just interested in upping your post counts?
Should we have a poll every week asking who works with prims every day? This is a part of the official client, just as building with prims, or playing music or video on a parcel are.
What relevance does the continued bringing up of this topic bring to a forum that's supposed to help Residents with their Second Lives?
For those who use it - Yay voice! For those who don't use it - Yay Nicholaz 1.18.2!
Otherwise... what is the big deal???

Lol Micheal. who said i was annoyed by voice? I'm merely saying there are options out there for those who don't wish to use it. That is the flexibility of LL allowing people to access the grid using alternative clients.

a) do you use it?
No I don't. But I can imagine situations I would, like a language class, or something like that. I would use a subtle voice changer though, to stay completely anonymous. (I tested one of these and they are great. SL should come with it already in place. MAybe then more people would use voice?)
B) Is voice a blessing or a curse and why?
It is a blessing for very specific usages, see above. For the everyday SL experience I thought it would turn into a curse but actually it is basically non existant for me. Noone seems to use it, and those that tried to force it on me are on mute. According to the official stats (link?) only 30% of people use it "sometimes". Many parcels have it turned off, including mine.
C) Do you actually talk on it or just listen?
Neither.
D) does it bother you why others dont talk with it?
It bothers me when others do talk with it and I am excluded from the conversation. But this never happens with my friends so it is not relevant. I ignore voice, and my SL experience hasn't changed a bit (not counting one, two rude people - but if someone wants to be rude, they can be rude about anything.)

From: Sue Saintlouis Those who refuse to use it, kinda makes me wonder what they're hiding. This is another reason I wouldn't even use it. Like to leave people wondering. Actually, I think it's funny you say that because I just don't get why it has to be someone hiding something. In my case, my RL husband plays on SL too, and he's my SL partner, so what need do I have to sit there and gab away when I only need to talk into the next room to speak with the most important person, to me, on SL? Also, we have young children. It's bad enough my daughter can read and sometimes comes up behind me when I happen to log on while she's around...which is why most of our SL time is after the kids are in bed. If I were talking, the waiting-until-after-the-kids-go-to-bed thing is kind of a moot point, as they would more than likely be able to hear me. I'm sure there are a lot of other people with similar circumstances, I know LOTS of people on SL are parents in RL. It just bugs me that someone would automatically judge that I'm hiding something because I don't want to voice chat. From: Sue Saintlouis Voice is particularly handy when you're trying to teach someone how to do something. talking is more natural than typing, and much faster. In voice, you can distinguish the tone of the convo, which is sometimes not easy to do in text. . In this circumstance, though, I do think that voice would probably be a much better alternative. Still not for me, though.

Probably hiding the fact they don't like to talk to judgmental people.

Although I understand the resemblance Carli, I don't think just because someone is weary of an AV that refuses to use voice, they should be labeled 'judgmental.' In fact...isn't that what you're being? A little judgmental...
Akuna Matada.
To tell you the truth...it's old hats to me now...I could care less if someone uses voice or not...I just prefer it.

(I feel like I'm following Michael. I'm not stalking, promise ) Ehh... I'm not really happy when someone *demands* voice. But I am quite happy to plug in my headset and chit chatter away with someone. Honestly, it's the actualy demanding that turns me off.

I had an individual who was so adamant, he gave me a primer on how to download and configure the viewer since I use The Nicholaz Pre Voice Client, then after acting with incredulty that I don't have a micropohone, gave me a selection of models to buy for assorted budgets, then suggested it was early enough for me to run to the nearest WalMark/KMart/BestBuy to buy one, that he would be around when I came back. That was followed up by the accusations of being a Man/Married Cheater/Teen of either gender. It was highly amusing. He IMmed me for several days asking if had was going to talk to him, then asked for my phone number at which point he ws muted.

hmm i find it very curious that you acknowledge that its everyone's choice to use voice, yet in your next sentence cast suspicions upon that persons choice not to use it. it's this more than anything that makes me leery of using voice at all. the oh you must be hiding something attitude. maybe, it's not all about you and your suspiscions sue, maybe its your general attitude in those two little lines above, that would and has put me off voicing, at least with you.
