I think I'm down to two on my ignore list. That seems to be the total I usually have. I love a great debate, but there's plenty of coherent people in these forums.

If I know someone in RL who is continuously rude, I would start to avoid them like the plague. Those are "friends" I don't tneed t in RL, so I certainly am not going to put up with it here.

Most that I put on ignore I check back on them periodically. If they show the same behavior then they go back on my ignore list. Fortunately I find I eventually that most tone down a little after it's no fun anymore.

There are some that never get it.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Instead of asking the usual yearly "do you use ignore", i decided to directly address the people who do not use the ignore function.

When you run across posts from particular people that you find often upset you, or that you simply choose to not want to read for whatever reason - why do you not Ignore that person?

What are the reasons you choose to not use the ignore function.

I don't use ignore because everyone has value, experience, expertise and knowledge to share. Just because in some particular instance they may bother me doesn't warrant ignoring every thing they may say forever from that point. In fact I would say nothing would ever warrant that.

I use my built in ignore function, which doesn't need forum software! ...

I'm with Desmond - I just "ignore" a post for real, by not reading it, or by skimming past it and not taking it personally.

And as others have said, even an offensive person has something useful to say sometimes. I don't like censorship, and to me "ignore" smacks of censorship. I can make my own decisions about what to read; I don't need the forum software to do it for me.

In fact, after almost 3 years in the forums, I must sheepishly admit I didn't even know you COULD enable "ignore!"

I put myself on ignore so that I don't have to read what ever silliness my fingers come up with. :)

I don't use ignore, or mute.

Everyone can have something to contribute, and it takes little effort for me realize any one particular post is not worth finishing and just moving to the next. In some threads, after a while, I'll just stop reading two people's posts that are continually going back and forth. In another thread either, or both, of them might have something interesting to say.

Drama in general doesn't bother me, some of it is amusing.

So, entertain me Trolls, Drama Queens, and Grammar Police! *wink*

I don't use it. It is just as easy to skim or skip. If posts are too long I do that anyhow, irregardless of its author.

I also sometimes exercise tl;dr. Some people can just go on....and on.....

and on....

I just set my personal Relevance Filter.

No point in using the ignore function, otherwise I would have no method of checking, and adjusting, the degree of filtration.

I sometimes think that maybe, if I felt _strongly_ enough, I could "ignore" someone - but then I wonder how I could possibly feel that strongly over a little internet forum... and then I _do_ feel strongly that all people matter and everyone should have a voice.

In any case, I can get confused enough without dropping posts from a thread - no need to make it even more challenging!

Could make a modern sort of party game - everyone ignore someone else's posts and see what happens.

I do use mute inworld, because gestures were spawned in the very blackest pit of hell. On the forums, I don't ignore because my favorite scene in any movie was in Braveheart where William Wallace says "I'm goin to pick a fight."

Nobody on my ignore list either, I don't tend to use the ignore feature, mainly because when it occurs to me that I don't want to read that person's posts anymore I just skip over them as if they don't exist.

What happened wasn't important, the important thing was he fought. But since I referenced the movie, I thought we were talking about Hollywood?

This thread is about ignoring - and I was thinking that fighting is one sure way of making certain you don't get ignored. Fighting leads to death - usually a very messy death, and Wallace is a good example.

I'm off to bed now - not ignoring you. I'll catch up tomorrow. :)

Ahh, so many reasons, so little time to bring them all up.

Let's see... maybe because you're sure of yourself enough to know that nothing anyone says really matters in the long run.

Because even if someone did bother you, why let them know by whinning about how mean they are to you in these forums. Slap some tough skin unto yourself and stand up straight.

*Maybe by not showing how much of a big sissy you are by saying your list is down to two people?

Take it all in stride, it's no big deal. (Wish they had devilish horns to place right after this last line).

I never use the Ignore or Mute functions because my built-in button works perfectly well if I really need it. Besides, I'm always interested in what makes other people tick, so I'd be depriving myself if I couldn't see what they had to say :)

I use Ignore and Mute sparingly. You have to really be an xxxxxxxxx to get me to that point, however.

I find Ignore on the forums best used when you run across someone who really pushes your buttons and it is probably in your best interest to not respond to them lest others find it hard to distinguish who is the bigger xxxxxxxxx.

Lastly, I emphatically disagree that everyone has something of value to contribute. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to an audience.

If I still used the ignore list, I would have missed this post entirely, along with the majority of the ramblings in the Rezzable discussion..... :)

Great quote. I'm having a hard time to keep from laughing at those that say this is a free speech issue. Go ahead and read every post from every person if you'd like, but don't call it freedom of speech.

It's a term used way too frequently to the point of absurdity. I can only presume that those who claim freedom of speech in these forums allow the Saturday morning church folks ringing at your door to come in and chat. Wouldn't want to censor them would we?

There's a crazy acting man at the front of a local supermarket who loves to ramble nonsensically and hand out literature. I presume you feel a burning desire to stop and listen to him go on and on and on. You'd be censoring otherwise, wouldn't you? He's using his freedom of speech and therefore you must stop and listen, correct?

I could go on and on, but I think most of you get my point.

Everyone has a different way of handling situations and that's cool. It's the way it should be. I, however, don't have time to waste listening to fools. I see no need to just skip over a fools postings. If I have never heard them say anything that I think is valuable, then I'm going to mute rather than scan my eyes past their posts. Why? It is just easier to not view their posts. I don't want to bother scanning over them. It's really that simple.

I prefer my life experience to be uncensored, unfiltered, unfettered, and unmuted. That said, mute and ignore go against the very spirit of my expectations. I do not feel the need to be 'protected' from anything in media. Printed, written, drawn, photographed, fimed, recorded, or by any other means. (^_^)y

It is not "censorship".

And.

The forum software is not censoring for you on it's own, you are telling it what to do.
