From: 2k Suisei Who says the forum is no longer being moderated?. Is it because that somebody typed the word "turd" in thread #343566 and lived the tell the tale that people are assuming that there is no moderation?.
If I was a moderator then I would ban the people that get upset by the stupidest of things. Not out of spite, but in order to protect them. It must be hard when you've been raised in a ball of cotton wool and then suddenly find yourelf being exposed to the nasty words on an internet forum. 2K, chill the heck out. No one cares about the word "turd." Where are you coming from??? Yeah it's a stupid, infantile word, but we all know that. What's your grief here?

I look forward to the day when the worst word leaving 2k's lips is "turd". Anyway there is no thread # 343566 and post #[post]343566[/post] is in the archive and is about male anatomy and doesn't mention turds. I wish I had discovered "turd" as a search word before now, good for finding threads in trouble. Not my problem anymore.

IMO the only people that need to be moderating this forum is its owners, who are the Lindens. They are the only ones who can look out for the interest of their company and when other residents get involved it only complicates everything. Maybe if you want to be a forum moderator here you should apply to LL for a job first.

Just active moderators, who have enough time to do the job. Personally, I enjoyed the lighter-touch moderation that Strife was using before stepping down. I, too, think that RA is best when some off-topic threads are let to run for a while. The Jira does not call for strict moderation ... just SOME moderation. Those who have said that the forums are not in bad shape right now are right. But I know that will not continue indefinitely without moderation. Looking carefully, I think I can see storm clouds already gathering.

The moderation levels have just returned to normality for a typical internet forum. I'm sure if somebody were to post something blatantly offensive then the thread would be locked or removed. Perhaps you'd like me to test?

One way to make the forums better would be to get rid of or hide the useless inactive Linden forum links at the top of the main forum page.
Folks claim they can't find forums - having a bunch of worthless relics at the top of the forum list isn't helping them any.

From: Kitty Barnett Sounds like Amber, or she said the same thing to me a few weeks back anyway . I still don't think the forums should be open access to all. It doesn't cost anything to put payment info on file. There are few enough benefits as it is, that shouldn't be eroded even further. Posting yes. But reading? I think anyone should be able to read at least RA. An unverified basic may find information that will encourage him to commit to the game.

After careful consideration, and after debating in my head if bugging Linden Lab about the forums is dangerous, I have voted for this issue and left a comment on JIRA.
I have asked LL before to allow anyone to READ the forums, but only allow those with payment info to COMMENT. That may be another JIRA new feature I will have to hunt down or make.
To whom do we report threads to now? Aki Linden?

From: Gaybot Blessed To whom do we report threads to now? Aki Linden? Yes. I assume that she is getting AR reports. Aki is moderating sometimes - do a search on her posts. But she is temporary. I'd like to move quickly toward whatever the permanent solution will be. It appears that Aki doesn't have much time for moderating, since she hasn't acted on threads that much more clearly violate guidelines than those that she HAS acted on. This makes sense to me - she was a marketing new hire at the start of summer, so now she should be pretty well up to speed and probably has a bunch of real marketing work to do. If LL goes the way of resmods, then 'twere best done quickly, while we have a group of interested, qualified volunteers (which neither Qie nor I are among). And if they go the way of Linden employees, then we need more time from them. Incidently, Gaybot, your comment on the Jira was great.

Aki gets sent the ARs (they still get routed to me but I'm not reading them).

The forum's rules need to be upheald by someone - Preferably a group of trusted people. One person cannot manage a forum, especially not a forum this size.

Moderation in order to main a sense of status quo in the forum group may censor newer ideas. I would prefer a more open forum which is truly an exchange of ideas and less a "tribe has spoken" situation (which I see more and more.)

What you don't seem to get through your posts, Jig, is that RA was never meant to be a discussions forum. RA equals Resident Answers, plain and simple. Past threads show the vast majority of us would prefer to see some type of discussion forum return, but until then many of us try to respect the original intent of RA. One is to keep it easier for people to find answers to operating within SL. The other reason is so that LL doesn't become too frustrated and decide to shut the the forums down. It seems important to you to share your thoughts and ideas on what I consider silly threads in RA. I don't know why, maybe you like to hear yourself talk (so go speak), so go ahead. I'd prefer you to find another forum more appropriate for doing so.
