As a club onwer, we, as i'm sure others, have had a fair share of "problem" visitors.

Whether it be griefer attacks, notecard spammiing, Group IM spamming for other clubs etc, it can cause us all problems.

\we have created a new group - "Clubwatch". The aim is to allow club owners to join the group, and be able to report and recieve advance information about "problem" visitors.

It is then obviously up to the onwers of the other clubs to act on any information received, but I feel that an "advance heads up" can help in a lot of cases...

So, if any club owners would like to join and help each other reduce the issues as a co-operative, please IM Gomez Bracken.

That group aleady exists in SL. Named SLAM.

You may wish to contact them as the SLAM group has been active for over two years (to my knowledge. Might be longer).

Nope. Blacklist is something completely different. That's an automated system. This is no different that you passing word of an a$$hat to your friends via a IM.

Hi Colette

It's not intended as a "blacklist". that would not be right....

What we intend is a "heads up" system.... Surely if someone walks into a club and cages everyone then it's only fair for other club owners to be "on guard" for that person?

Again, not a blacklist, just an "early warning" system for potential issues.

Here in the UK, most towns and Cities in RL operate a similar system.

I'm sure if you visit a club (if you do), you would like to know the owners are doing all they can to make is as nice and plearuable as possible for you.

Yes, and a very good idea for some.

We ould not be happy however to auto ban an AV just becuase someone else seems fit. The system we want to use is that it's up to the owner to make the call, given the information that has happened.

You're idea is a good one Gomez. I'm no club owner but I am a club goer and I would appreciate a system in place to alert the owners of potential troublemakers. I've even IM'd a club owner when I saw a griefer from another club to keep an eye on him.......and it worked. The owner payed attention to the avi I pointed out and stopped an attempted attack before it took the sim down. If there was group of club/business owners that spreads the word about troublemakers it would help curb the problems......often before they happen.

But, you'll get resistance here. Someone will jump in that some poor avi who rubbed John Club owner wrong will be targeted as a griefer. And that could happen. So many will say to just let it be........don't try to make life nicer for the majority because someone just may be falsely accused. There usually is a reason for someone to be accused of anything....maybe not griefing in the strictest sense but something like inappropriate language or public nudity.

I'm all for you idea.

Thanks for the support Peggy :)

Yes, this is the reason why it should be up to the owner to make the call... For instance, nudity in our club is ok - but in anothers it is not. Notecard spamming in ours is not, but in others it is... If when these incidents happen, all club owners get a message in group IM or message "xxx has done xxx or beeen banned becuase of xxx" - the club owners can then choose to act or ignore the information...

This is very good information to have available to a club owner. Especially the newer clubs. The greifers are attracted to new clubs like moths to a flame. Mainland clubs have less of a defense system than a Island-owned club.

Off topic a bit here but.....

I'm curious....why do people open clubs in SL? Surely there is no money to be made from just having people dance in a big room? Escort clubs I can see....but the rest....?

OK, how about a list for terrible clubs and we all know they have these by the bunch.

Out of the many thousands of clubs only a few are good enough to frequent so listing all these other clubs should also be provided.

Last night I went to a club. Place itself is pretty big so they have about 3 dance floors set inside the place. Now, they were having a Pajama event at the time when I went with a friend. They had about 15 people in one of the dance floors as well as the host and dj. The thing was there didn't have any dance balls at all. When I asked about them I was told dance balls were on one of the other dance floors very much away from where everyone was. Not only far away but the balls itself sucked big time.

Does this make any sense? Clubs that are run badly like these one are a dime a dozen. Or clubs that announce a salsa event and when you get there, they're playing hard rock.

For the club that didn't provided dance balls, I left the group soon as I left the place. I've done the same with other clubs that are run just as stupid which as I stated seems to be the norm in sl.

How about a list for these type clubs?

Because that is personal opinion. Obviously 15 other people did not agree with you. what is being discussed here is a list of people that come to these establishments wearing penises, caging, sound and texture spamming, pushing and being a asshat for the fun of it.

A lot of people are not very excited about the idea of just creating a nice house for private use. I'd get very bored with that. I find it much more rewarding to design places for public use where anyone can appreciate the setting, seeing people visiting the place makes it much more rewarding. Building shopping malls etc are the alternative but I don't have much to sell at the moment.

Cool, another Blacklist.
You should read over the transcript of Philip's office hour from two weeks back (burried between all the gambling blahblah).

He confirmed what Daniel said about shared ban lists and that it's something they plan to offer.

Is anyone else , besides me, uneasy about that concept? This could be wildly abused.

I'll try and find the link/reference later :).

The idea itself bothers me, but what bothers me even more is that things like that just come up during random office hours and unless you happen to be present or read every transcript noone knows until it's already implemented and announced as a new feature.

I couldn't find any log of the office hour on the SL wiki, but http://stindberg.blogspot.com/2007/08/fascinating-peter-i-will-pass-that.html has a transcript. It's in the "Philip Linden on griefing, police and live support" section.

I hope he's not truly that naive to believe that a biased resident-run "court" is a proper way to "regulate" unfair ban lists.

That seems to be standard LL procedure. They must get stoned, think stuff up and decide to implement it. Then when they sober up, they forget they did it . Then it hits here and the say, "We did what?"

Yeah after watching that Interveiw - just from tone, and personal demenor - I knew Dan L wasnt just making stuff up.

He was very confident in his ability to set policy.

Why do you think he annoys me so much.
