I will never understand that if it was just a dance why it would ever matter to anyone at all. I'd have to say there's still a bit of homophobia to gender verify for just a dance.

Just popping into this thread for a moment to mention that Eben explained back on page 4 that gender verification wasn't required to attend the dance, and that he wasn't asked to. Rock also explained back there someplace that gender verification was only required for residents of his sim, not for guests of the events.

I'm sorry to shock you, Eben. You can spank me later. ;)

First I'll admit it was an empty threat. Simply was trying to get a point across. The evil side of me says it would be fun though.

I guess I'll just never "get" other peoples perspectives of SL. I accept everyone for who they choose to be. To me that is the magnificent thing about SL. I understand that may not be the case for others. I will never understand that if it was just a dance why it would ever matter to anyone at all. I'd have to say there's still a bit of homophobia to gender verify for just a dance. Or maybe gender-phobic is a better word. But, I admit, even I have homophobic and racial issues and I'm practically perfect in every way.

"..practically perfect in every way?" Oh, you're leaving yourself sooo open that I'm just salivating to tell you what I really think of this comment. But for now I won't but just this time.

You seem to be itching really bad to tell others here about "homophobia" as you've already mentioned it on more then one occasion. You don't really want to open this can of worms, do you?

People have the right to or not to accept you or what you stand for so get over it. Just because someone wanted to screen females doesn't justify you jumping on your bandwagon with your anti-gay rhetoric.

We've heard it all before and it won't change a thing.

My apologies for missing that. There was so much to read and catch up on between the two threads. That makes much more sense to me.

I still think voice verification is absurd based on the reason I stated earlier of knowing males who can pass as females or just having a female verify for you. This seems silly to me regardless of anyones personal stance of whether it's ok or not.

I dont think anyone should be surprized about people trying to use voice for gender verification,

I always thought people were naive when they said it wouldn't happen.

I do have to laugh that it was referred to as a part of "trust" since its the definition of lack of trust.

But if some people need this voice so they can have trust, and the woman being asked to "verify" still cares for them after being questioned, I guess its all right.

What isn't all right would be for a woman's refusal to verify to be assumed to be "proof" she was lying about her gender.

Because it is nothing of the sort. It is just proof that she won't voice with the person asking.

Yes, its all up to the indiviual whether they choose to or not. But to get on a soap box to spew the same exaggerated garbage that's so common and tiresome of complaining people don't like you because you're this or that is really annoying and tiresome.

It's not news people don't like you regardless of race, religion or orientation. If you don't know this by now then you must be living in a hole somewhere. And if you do know it then why you're still complaining?

Accept your hand and move on.

It was posted by a different version of Rock.

Heheheeh, busted!

Yes, there ARE two versions of me, but it has never really been a secret.

My main avi is Rock Ryder, and I use him for all my business dealings in SL, and he handles the Hoini rental side of things.

My main alt is Rock Vacirca, which I use for all social activities.

I just like to keep business and pleasure separate and it works very well for me.

Unfortunately, I do sometimes get my alts confused, lol, and that can lead to some hilarity! To check my posts you need to search for both alts as sometimes I post in the scripting or texturing forums with my business 'hat' on, then forget when posting a post in the Residents Answers on a more social topic.

Why do people need alts to do business in sl? Why can't we be ourselves??

For alot of people it's the same reason you have a different bank account for your business than you do for your personal finances, and it helps streamline their communication with their customers. A lot of business owners watch their finances carefully, track sales, and do all the things that a RL business owner should do, and using an alt for playtime, shopping, etc. helps them track those things.

I suppose there are also some business owners who have the perception that their reputation could be hurt if they are seen in public engaging in some of their fantasies.

Well that, and you don't get:

"Hey I am opening a new mall, would you like to rent a store ..."

"Hey my name is ----, I have a business Idea , if we split costs ..."

"Hey could you join our group of Sellers and Circus Performers? ..."

"Hey, WHY should I buy your products over the next persons? .. Sell me on your stuff ..."

"Hey can I get some free demos?"

"Hey can you provide some free products for prizes at our club? .. it will be great advertising for you"

"Hey can I put some advertising up in your store"

"Hey would you like to buy some advertising in ..........? "

In addition, a lot of business owners get plagued with IM's and even when setting themselves as busy, I have head many complain that they don't seem to have time to breath. An alt gives them that privacy and peace.

Not unless there's snacks. Seriously, have you been following this at all? Even gay guys need snacks at their parties. It's universal. I was all over the snack situation in that other thread and got nowhere at all. I even gave up my favorite snack recipe. Nothing.

What Rock needs is a good snack recipe booklet. I like shrimp. Meatballs are good as well. Really, a bag of trailmix from the Costco will do just fine.

Dude, I went home that day and MADE your snack recipe. YUM!

My main store location contains 3 sellers besides me.

I even get people asking for refunds from the 3 of them!

Actually far more than people ever ask for refunds for my products.

Although I don't do business in SL, I would definitely have an Alt. Imagine all the IM's the business owner has to deal with. It would be like never being able to leave the office and the ringing phone, email, etc. behind...

Oh wait! With my cell and my PDA this IS my RL now!

I'm sure many business owners want to be able to enjoy SL without a cell and PDA on occasion..

and the question begs... did the girls voice check rock to make sure he was a guy?

Part of changing your voice is knowing how to talk like the other gender. I have never tried it, but my understanding is that screaming bee does not include everything needed to effectively change a man's voice to a woman's or the opposite (the tempo or something like that).

Did you? That makes me really happy! I love those danged things. There are a bunch of variations - try different cheeses or load them up with pulled pork instead of the sausages. I usually make them when I'm doing a long barbecue. (bbq /= grilling). If I'm going to have the smoker going for 24 hours, plus, I'm going to use every bit of heat and smoke I can. Plus, if I'm going to be up all night drinking beer and playing with fire, I'm going to need some snacks. I bet if you Google "Atomic Buffalo Turds" you'll get all sorts of variations. I wish I'd invented them, but I can't take the credit. It was someone else.

Someday I'll post my homemade banana pudding recipe. I'm taking my competition spice rubs and sauce recipes to the grave, though.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Yes - I've been working on the sauces and rubs for...geesh...8 to 10 years now. I don't remember how long ago I got into slow-smoked BBQ. I'll be glad to share them with anyone, and when I do a BBQ, I end up with enough food to feed an army. But the recipes are MINE. I wouldn't even give them to my mom when she asked.
