Is it cheaper to share your land with your alt, even after paying the alt's annual premium fee, as opposed to owning all the land yourself (and still donating to group)?

I ask because I have large land holdings, and have hit the top tier level as a result. Would it save me money to have an alt (or hubby) upgrade to premium, and donate some of their tier so I could tier down? I get so confused when I try to factor in that 10% bonus for donating your tier to your group, and then the 512 sqm that you get premium free. Does having that second alt make those numbers come out more favorably, even though you are now paying annual memberships and tier on two accounts? I'ld love it if that were true!

I have 36288 square meters of land, currently all owned by my group, to which I have donated my tier.

Any input?

It's cheaper for me. I formed a group that contains just myself, my alt and my RL/SL husband. My husband owns land of his own, and has not donated any to group. My alt and I are both premium memberships, and the group owns 5,632. If I owned that much alone as a premium member, my total would be $40 a month for tier, plus (since I pay membership monthly) the $9,95 for that. So, around $50 a month. The way that I have it set up now, it's costing me around $45 a month, but with the two combined stipends, my alt's membership is pretty much paid for every month. So, in actuality, it's $35 a month. So, in my case, yes it's cheaper to do it that way. However, I am now at the limit in land holdings without going up in monthly tier. No more land buying for me.:(

I own 1/4 of a sim in Tully High that has protected waters bordering both sides. My partner owns most of the Jonestown sim (which is also beachfront, protected waters), I own a 4096 right in the middle..lol. Once you get the land bug its hard to stop....just keep thinking "i still have X meters left to top out on my tier", so you buy more...then you get to the top, and think, hmmmm well going from $25 to $40 isnt that bad, let me buy some more...etc etc. Until before you know it, you own an entire sim.

We need the prims for our furniture store, thats why we have this much land, we will be expanding even more and buying up more lots. Its too bad that your prims cant travel beyond sim boundaries.

Hey just for fun, if you go to your Map, and you notice a single resident green dot in the middle of a sim, TP there...see if you can find the landbot...it was fun the last time I did it. Put my radar on, and was trying to pinpoint where they were. Ended up in the middle of the ocean, removing the surface patch layer, and looking about 30m under the ground....the newbie land bot was sitting on a prim in total darkness waiting for the land to pop up for sale.

4096m2 on an island sim for my home and 512m2 on the mainland for my workshop. I'm also renting space for the photo studio, but will probably end up moving to the mainland plot.

None. I rent a skybox. Why? I don't know why, since I can hardly log in half the time. I am hopeful though, that some day I will be able to stay logged in for more than ten minutes at a time. Then I will think about going back to premium and buying land.

Some day.

I have five islands: New Desperation Isle is a public adult playground, and it's surrounded by my four rental islands which subsidize NDI and other endeavors. I keep a little land on every island for myself and my family to use for sandboxing or living space. We also have a showroom for all of the skyboxes we sell on Desperation North (which is my home sim).

I also own 1008m in a mainland sim I bought on auction a while back; I sold off most of the region when I decided to go into island rentals- but a fella is renting that 1008m from me (it's adjacent to land he owns but is cheaper for him than bumping into the next tier), so I haven't gotten rid of it. I'll sell it if my tenant moves away.

Finally, I'm renting a little over 12,000m on a friend's commercial sim to host a public Sci-Fi build that another friend of mine runs.

I've reached a point where 50% of my time in SL now is "work" and I'm kind of unhappy about that, since I only set up my mall and rental islands to make my SL self-sufficient. I'm going to be training a couple of estate managers soon, but if I expand any more it will only be because there are more public builds I want to do. I'm in SL for the long haul, but it's because I love it here, not for profit.

19 sims and, like Desmond, no land for myself. My "home" is high in the sky above one of them :)
