I'd spend an afternoon in SL at the most. With my luck, I would appear Ruthed with shoes up my ass. SL is fun, but the SL universe has too many issues.

YES! only because Maggie has better clothes than me, can shop til she drops with only the equivalent of 7.00 usd, and has a home on the beach. plus the usual already stated reasons!

BUT! i would not stay. eventually, i would miss my RL Family and friends. eventually..

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

YES! I'd be in there in a Nanosecond! Anyway, I am convinced that one day I WILL wake up IN SL. Here's another question that I was wondering about... How many residents actually use their SL bed to sleep in all night...?? Hmmm...?

I do not exist in RL. I am an avatar and have always lived only in SL. I was created by a RL human, but have an identity distinct from that human, kind of like a character in a book has an identity distinct from that of the book's author.

So for me the question is, given the opportunity, would I choose to step out of the computer screen and live in RL? Intriguing question, but I doubt that I would do it. From what I know of RL, it sounds like a dreary, oppressive, difficult place, where just getting by from day to day is a major pain in the a**. I like the world I live in and all the possibilities it offers me.

I do think that my RL human is losing patience with my spending habits, however. I'd better cool it for a while, or my supply of $L may be cut off. :)

A resounding No.

I would go through to see if it worked, and then come back out quickly.

There is a big reason for that. In RL I can play SL. In SL I could not play RL. (Dalian Hansen's book notwithstanding.)

Plus in SL I would be really disturbed by having to pay people for the ability to move my limbs in particular patterns.

I think I would like to try exchanging SL sometime, but not permanently.

What I really want to do in SL will take more time and energy than I have. Lately real life has been a little too interesting, so I haven't even logged in virtually let alone thought about actually residing in SL. I'm just checking in every once in a while to make sure my skybox hasn't fallen or something.

Real life has a lot of bugs to work out though. I crash EVERY night. I can't get the shape sliders to work at all. Flying and teleporting are disabled. And there are just too damned many other residents who expect me to behave exactly as they do and they're always wanting something from me. SL would be a peaceful respite from all that since no one else is ever around. Yeah, I'd exchange them for a time.

Permanently.

Period.

Well if I weren't married, and I could still live the life of dj'ing all the time and sleeping with coworkers and flying, then in a heartbeat I would switch, but only for a minute. Maybe a day.. I couldn't last much longer than that with satisfying my tastebuds though.

But consider this, do you ever wake up and your alarm clock says "Too many people awake today, please try again later"

Or go to the checkout counter and your wallet says "unable to process transaction, please try again later"

Or even, you're about to get lucky, you take of your pants, and your detachable pecker isn't rezzing? Please try again later?

well what if you had a desk and computer in your SL office, to login and play RL.. you know, go pay bills, feed the family, show up at work, get parking tickets, etc.. that'd be a pretty cool game!

I might, for an afternoon. But only if my husband was willing to come along, too. I have a lot more fun on SL when he's in it with me. ^^;;

...And building's a lot harder there than with the RL physics engine. That's kind of a down side. ;)

Even if I could step though, keeping my mind and personality intact, I couldn't touch again. I couldn't feel. I couldn't hold my family members. I couldn't shake a hand or kiss a cheek. Sex would be useless. Everything I did would be a mockery of the real human life I left behind.

No thanks. Being invincible is no match for being human.

I've had a good virtual life so far - I can't even begin to say how good. Not a whole lot I couldn't do on the grid, if I wanted to.

But If I had to choose...

...I would choose the real.

Anyone ever see the movie "City of Angels?" It's like that.

Not since being gainfully employed, but yes, I've experienced that.

Ummm . . . answering this would be a little too much information.

You can fly and teleport in SL...

...but you can't taste a gourmet meal....
or feel the wind on your face...
or a lover's touch...
or smell a field of wildflowers after a rain...

I'll keep my RL, thank you.

RL.. My life is very hectic. Today my health could be wonderful.. In a moment, my vision could be hazzy, my heartbeat racing and my hands numbing. I could collapse into a seizure, mini or grand maul. I could lose my breath in a millasecond, and have it gone longer than I care to. Real life, as I experienced today, my vision could be perfectly fine then totally shot for minutes while trying to focus. Real Life I could be without food.

I love my family, I love to work, and I love my cat Jynx.. But if I had the choice, I would venture into SL for most likely all of eternity. I would experience that of which I cannot in the RL. I would skydive. I would climb mountains. I would run, race, skip and dance the day and night away. I would live without worrying about health or hunger, I would live the life of a nomad - Each day seeing a new place, exploring their heights and depths.

RL is too hectic, costly.. We all live never knowing if there will be a tomorrow..

True, SL crashes but it always comes back..

I would choose SL for so many reasons..

Just a thought.

What would happen if you crashed??? Would you die??? Or would you just hang there alive forever but not able to move or communicate??? ooo! spooky

Despite the many great things SL has given me that beat RL hands down, these two posts sum up why the answer is no.

Until the technology improves, anyway.

That's what makes it worth living.

Yep, I did say in the OP that you could take family members and friends with you (if you wanted).

I am moved and impressed by the depth of feeling in some of these answers...

hugs
