Have you ever met your avatar twin?

I was shopping one day in a busy SL store when my mystitool showed a name with a just barely different spelling than my first name and my same last name, so I wandered over to take a look. While the skin and shape were different (made my own shape), she was wearing long straight red hair like me (different creator). It was close enough, though, that we had a few giggles talking about being cousins.

Though it was a mod of a Linden shape, I always thought my old shape was pretty unique. At least, I never saw it duplicated.

About half a year ago, I grew dissatisfied with it and found a freebie shape that I like well enough with some very minor changes. My skin and the hairstyles I wear are (or were) all commercially available, so it's theoretical possible that I *could* run into a twin, but if I have, I haven't noticed.

What's really funny, at least to me, is that I have an alt who uses the same shape tweaked very slightly different and a skin from the same range (but a different makeup, usually) - but her hair and style of dress are quite different and I don't think she looks very similar.

If I can use my son's computer tomorrow, perhaps I'll deal with the tight bandwidth and bring the two of us together for pictures... now that I think about it, I'm curious to know how similar we look or don't look.

No, I made my shape and use a skin I have never seen anyone else wearing (it's slightly darker than the norm), so I doubt I'll run into anyone who looks like me... well except my identical twin alt, lol. (The alt I made thinking I'd use her to get peace and quiet but still prefer my main 95% of the time.)

I have a homemade shape--and short and chubby is not all that popular in SL.

I'm like many with my own shape and skin (partially thanks to Eloh and Sezmra) so probably won't ever see anyone with my own daggy style, but did once run into a girl with my old noobie look (which wasn't a common one). It was a funny shock, like seeing myself in a mirror-that-reflects-the-past. Familiar, and yet not.

@Czari----wouldn't it freak you out to swap photos with the one who looks like rl you, and find your rl doppelganger?

In 2007, I was one of six chosen for a Cancer Survivors Makeover. My shape was custom made for me. Skin and hair were donated by some generous designers. I'm Native American in RL and I wanted that to carry over in-world.

Thanks to the makeover program, I finally found something that I was delighted with. If you could see my Hair folder, you'd quickly realize the odds against my running into a 'twin'.

I have seen people who look quite like me but an identical doppelganger is unlikely.
I created my own shape and styled my own hair. I also made a lot of my own clothes.

I have seen people with skin similar to mine, though.

BUT..... I was at Freebie Dungeon once when an avatar next to me changed into 'me' - presumably a copybot. It had a floating message above it saying it could copy anything to order, for a fee.

I happened to run into someone who appeared to be an 'alternate color'* to me.

I'm furry, but the av I use is normally fairly distinct; an orange tiger whose clothing loosely apes a certain Street Fighter character's.

This other tiger was blue, and in pretty much the same clothing, right down to the color.... it was then I decided to 'switch palettes', as it were, and made the green a little browner.

*For those not aware, in a fighting game, when two players decide to select the same character, they're distinguished by their colorschemes, and some offer a high number of more... personalizing colors.

I voted "couldn't happen", but that's not entirely accurate. There's no (legal) way it could happen with the outfit I usually wear, because I made it, and I've never put any of its components up for sale, or distributed them. But I do occasionally put on some of the outfits I sell. And at those times, I've certainly encountered others wearing them.

I've never seen an av that looks like me, but if anybody sees one, shoot it - the sim can't take any more bots.

Oh, I'm short and a little on the chubby side, too (adjusting prims for butt size is one of my hobbies...). I have never met anyone looking like me, tho.

I always wear glasses, my shape is homemade, the skins I like to wear are apparently not en vogue at all....pale and freckled.

Why is "shape" considered all that relevant? I'm tweaking my shape all the time.

Heck, there's not enough possible shapes. Even if you have an oddball shape, it's certain there's lots of people who've picked close enough to the same slider values as you to make their shapes identical to yours.

I think so... I mean, the question being asked is an indicator that the finite combinations given to us make it possible to be truly unique. Why not? Still, shapes are just one of those things that are on my "Woah! Someone pays for that?" list. (^_^)y

I have not changed my shape since February 2004.

I have not seen people for 3-4+ years and when I run into them again they are like "whoa your face looks the same" (besides more pierces :P). I take it as a compliment. I am very happy with my shape thanks to Torrid and Mistress Midnight :D)

Yeh, but what I mean is... other people are tweaking theirs all the time, so at any time there must be lots of people with their slider settings close enough to yours that you can't tell the difference.

Well, being part of a group where we all RP'd as mercenaries and we shared ideas on shops and we all had to be the same height to walk around the ships, yep, we were a bunch of doppelgangers. Maybe one person had a red pirate outfit instead of black or different color of hair, and we had different swords, but generally we looked a lot alike until we changed for a specific RP place or other.

The ships were all aground, probably because we were all dressed like captains. Too many chiefs and all that...

Not bloody likely, at least in my mainly human shapes...

most of my hair is no longer available, same with most of my shoes, my shape doesn't include the standard barbie doll waist or anti grav boobs, for that matter most of my skins are off market now too. the two av's that could remotely be copied are my furry which is only a lightly customized version of one still available (though rather eclectice so I dunno), and my bot which consists of hair and skin that are still available but not popular.... my child is very unlikely due to customizations and variety of locales for accessories.

My alt has a shot at meeting her clone, since she's fairly new.

but no one is likely to have duplicated my scripted fairy that sits on my shoulder... seeing as only one other has the texture within SL to my knowledge, and I did all the scripting for her

No, but some one noticed a snapshot of me and gushed on how they saw me in a club and they thought my avie was cool or dressed cool w/e, that I have never been to ever.
They didn't want to talk further or anything, just the "I saw you!"

Not yet, although my friends said they saw an avatar that looked like me in shopping in a store once but that was over a year ago and I have made adjustments since then (not because of that though). I did my own shape, my generally favored choice of hairstyle doesn't appear to be particularly popular and I have never run into the an avatar that wears my favored choice of tattoos either.

I've said it couldn't happen, mainly cos mine has quirks and flaws :) I spose it could happen esp if someone managed to clone me, but in all my time here I have never seen another av that looked like me beyond having the same hair.

My partner seems to have twins, that's down to the comparative lack of things for men versus things for women.
