What does the following message (in part) mean? It pops up when I go to land, and deed--I'm considering deeding my parcel to my group, so when another member of the group wants to come 'home' she can do that.

'BY DEEDING THIS PARCEL THE GROUP WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE AND MAINTAIN SUFFICIENT LAND USE CREDITS' (WHAT ARE 'LAND USE CREDITS' AND HOW DO I 'MAINTAIN SUFFICIENT' OF THEM?)

As it stands now, everytime she's shopping or such, and she wants to come 'home' to the parcel, it pops her somewhere else.

All the group members can't come 'home' to the parcel where we spend the most time, so I thought if their names were on the deed, they could 'home' to the parcel. Am I correct?

Also, they won't be responsible for tier fees, will they--I don't mind paying the tier fees.

And, if something happens to me, they can sell the parcel, right?

Thankx for your answers, I'll prolly get a quicker answer this way than with Help, not to be disparaging, but they always have many to attend.

You have several issues here.

First, 'land use credits' refer to the land-tier donation the group. For example, if I create a group and immediately try to move land into the group, the transaction will fail because my group doesn't have suffiicient tier donation. Owners or members with permission can donate tier to group by going to Edit >> Groups >> Land & L$ tab >> "Your contribution" box >> filling in the amount of tier you want to donate (keeping in mind the group will get a 10% bonus on whatever number you type in) >> then click APPLY. Once tier is donated, you (or other group members) can donate land to the group.

Second, setting "home" for group members. Once the land is in the group, anyone who is a member has the default ability to set home to that parcel of land. This is entirely separate from land tier or land ownership.

Third, unless you are one of the OWNERS of the GROUP, you are effectively giving up control of your land by donating it to the group. OFFICERS and MEMBER roles can be given full permissions within a group, but these can be taken away at an OWNER's whim.

One word of caution: check carefully the permissions you give officers members of your group. I personally remove the default settings that allow group members to set the land for sale or abandon the land to governor linden. If you want others to be able to sell the land (and this is a HUGE risk), then you can change permissions so that the roles you designate (owner/officer/member) can sell the land, but do so at your own peril and realize you may wake up one day without the land you've bought and put in the group.

Hope this helps.

TRANSFER FROM INDIVIDUAL TO INDIVIDUAL:

EH?
So you wish to re-write LL instructions on selling /buying land?

I do so hope there is no hidden agenda here! or any attempt to
justify the use of landbot software by blaming it on resident error.
There is no need to confuse residents with different instruction

HERE is the OFFICIAL Linden Lab instructions on selling land as
provided by pressing F1 in your SL viewer, I suggest people follow it,
Rather than take any other second hand variation of it, BUT always
check out who the information is coming from.

OFFICIAL Linden Lab instructions on selling land;

Below is a simple run-through explaining how you can sell land in Second Life.

1. Study the Search window, Land Sales tab and take note of similar land that is already available to get a feel for the prices that parcels of the same size are being offered at. You may also want to look at Resident run land services too.
2. Also keep in mind that Mature land tends to be slightly more valuable than PG land, and that land with waterfront will often fetch higher prices.
3. Whilst on your land, right-click the ground and choose About Land (or click the parcel's title at the top of the window).
4. On the About Land window, General tab - you will see several controls related to selling the land parcel. First thing to do, is enter the price in linden dollars, that you want for your land.
5. If you want to sell your land to a particular person, use the Set button to fix the Sell Land To setting. That way no-one but that person will be able to buy the land. useful for selling land to friends.
6. If you wish to sell the land contents (any that you have permissions on), you can tick the Sell Objects With Land tickbox. With this ticked, the next buyer of your land will inherit all the objects, house, etc as well.
7. Go to the Options tab. If there is no image set for the land, take a good snapshot, and drag it from your inventory to set one.
8. With price already set, you can now tick the For Sale tickbox. Your land will now appear in the Search window for land buyers to see.

HELP - Purchased land - not transferred to me
05-24-2007 15:11
Okay, here's the deal. Today I purchased land, it took my money. However, it does not show that the land is mine and it still shows the land as for sale. How in the world do I make sure that the land is truly mine? Yes, I did up my land tier costs. Now what? PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

I've run into this a few times. IF the seller is a good and fair-minded person, ask him/her to cancel the sale to anyone and transfer the land to you for $0L (as you have already paid for it). [A shout out to Steve Mahfouz who is a reputable land seller who refunded money to me in this situation]

**MAKE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THE SELLER CHOOSES YOU AS THE "SPECIFIC PERSON" THEY ARE SELLING TO (See original post in this thread)**

Definitely try resolving this with the seller first. This is your best hope for resolving your issue.

In the unfortunate event that the person/group you are buying from is not scrupulous, your only recourse is to contact Second Life. Most of the time (though not every time) SL has stepped in to refund the lost money to me when this has happened. So there is hope.

If you can't work it out with the seller, email: support@secondlife.com and copy land@secondlife.com and copy billing@secondlife.com.

Be as brief and unemotional as possible in your email. Clearly give the SIM and coordinates; the date and time it happened; copy the information from your transaction history; make sure you send the email from the email address associated with this avatar; state that you tried to work this out with the seller first... and lastly, expect that given any excuse your issue will be closed for a spurious reason or no reason at all. Find a Zen-like state where you don't expect your money refunded, and then with a bit of luck you will be deliriously happy when it is.

Second Life support staff are frighteningly similar to overworked service staff in just about any industry: they skim an email and read the first few lines, they don't own your issue and they do not work outside the specific, enumerated tasks of their job description, BUT you desperately need them on your side because they are your only avenue to a resolution. In other words, don't lead with a rant or attack. They probably don't have the time to investigate your issue for you, and they will be less inclined to help if they feel attacked yet again for something that's not their (the support staff's) fault.

Here's wishing you good luck mate... and remember, pessimists are happier people because they can't be disappointed.

I would say ring LL but you cannot anymore Duh!!
So send them an email or go to

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/security.asp

Take a "ticket" option and wait for a few days if you have not heard from them send it in again, and again, and again, and again until you do hear from them.

I had the very same problem a couple of months ago when the inworld help was live and the phone help was also live it took me over three weeks to sort it , even with my constant barrage of calls.

Other route availible?
Have you tried IM'ing the seller/owner, if they respond to you and do talk to you then you have a chance that they are honest and will check their accounts for your payment, and give you the land if they see that payment.

Have you checked your account ? does it show you have paid user x for the land ?

you could of course give up and just accept your loss, but my advise is to NEVER give up , Never stop trying until you get satisfaction no matter how long it takes.

you might try the thread i was in when the same thing happened to me

/invalid_link.html
But you can only go back 200 search results now , so it has probably been wiped.

YOU are getting tied up with Selling/buying to/from "Specific persons" again ,

As far as I see, she simple saw land and clicked the buy option, as she clealy states
"IT" took my money.
"IT" does not show that the land is mine
"IT" still shows the land as for sale.

If it was sold specifically to her it would be by someone she knows and she would not really have any issue.

There have been Many times when grid faults have done this and it is quite well known, the last big mishap like this was on the blog back in March, and was whenI also got caught by it.

What about Land Trades?
05-28-2007 07:58
Thanks for the clarification and help. This is all kind of terrifying to someone like me; I recently quadrupled the amount of land I and my group own, and feel as if I could easily make a disastrous mistake.

I'd like to acquire one more plot from an adjoining neighbor, and I've offered him combined payment of money and another piece of land my group owns. But is there any safe way for people who don't know each other to trade land? Neither of us would want to be the first to hand over their part of the bargain.

Hi Kaimi,

I would suggest the land/cash be traded as part of the selling transaction. Since I don't know your specific details, the following scenario is to demonstrate how I would do it:

You have 512 sqm we'll call Parcel A

Your neighbor has 1024 sqm we'll call Parcel B.

You've offered your neighbor your 512 plus $4000L in exchange for his 1024 sqm Parcel B.

Parcel A is set for sale to him (as specific user) for $4000L.

Parcel B is set for sale to you (as specific user) for $8000L.

Essentially, you are exchanging land and you've given him $4000 extra lindens in the exchange. By having a sale price as part of the exchange, you decrease the probability (and incentive) for rip offs.

For example, if you simply set Parcel A for sale to him at $0L and he sets Parcel B for sale to you at $4000L, then what's to stop him from taking parcel A and walking away? That's why I would have an amount of money involved in the exchange.

I hope this helps.

Hi Flobee,

You should immediately try to contact the Lindens through the support portal and explain the situation. If your group no longer has any members, it will be deleted and the group-owned land will revert to Gov Linden. I am fairly certain you will get your land back, but you may have to wait for a response unless you are at the $125 land tier charge per month or higher. In that case, you should get a fairly quick response.

Your tier charges are completely separate from the land you own. It's the potential for owning land, even if you do not actually own any. Until you downgrade your account, you will still pay land tier charges.

Best of luck,

Skye

Hi Soizie,

Where did the money go?
-----------------------------

If the land was sold by Group A to another player or Group B, the money went to the Group A and was split by any remaining members. If there was no one left in Group A, I don't know what happens. You should contact the Lindens as soon as possible through the support portal and explain the situation.

Getting the land back
------------------------

If you no longer own the land, you need to start by looking at who does own the land. Is it owned by 1) another player or group in SL or 2) is it owned by Gov Linden or 3) does it say (Group Owned) but not have a group listed?

Hopefully, it is option 2 or 3. This will give you the best chance of recovering the land. Please explain to the Lindens. Contact SL through the support portal.

If it is option 1, try to explain to the new owners, and try to discover what happened. What price did they pay for the land and to whom? It should be on the transaction history of the person who purchased the land.

You are in a difficult situation. Contact the Lindens swiftly, and give as much information as possible: SIM & coordinates of the land; the group name; the sequence of events as you understand them; date & time (approximately) when everything happened.

Best of luck!

Does anybody actually sell land outright anymore?
As a newbie to SL I thought great I got the right to own 512 now so went looking but could only find people that want me to pay them money from Paypal. Does land other than this no longer exist?

when you do a land search, click MAINLAND, not ESTATE. Its the first tab that says ALL TYPES.

I think you are referring to Estate owners which charge their own tier instead of paying to Gov Linden.

Also you can slim down the search if you are looking for PG or Mature instead of both at the same time.

You would also need to be a premium member to own mainland. However, you do not need to be a premium to live on Estate land, the terms and conditions vary according to the sim owner.

What if land was group owned and then it got down to one person because others left the group? No access to land now because it was group owned and house and all is still there but cannot get on land, was first owner and made it group owned so say I was not on access list. How can I change this?

Hi Sheena,

If your group was disbanded for having only one person in it, you will have to file a ticket with LL to get your land back.

Login to SL webpage and go to My Account
On the left-hand side, scroll down and click on the SUPPORT link
Scroll to bottom of the page and login to the support system
At top of next page, click on SUBMIT A TICKET
I would probably choose this ticket type:

technical issue >> I've logged in but there is a problem >> groups >> group land

Make sure you fill out the exact SIM & coordinates; the group name, and give as much detail as you can.

Good luck.

I'm trying to deed a piece of land to my group. I have the group set, I have the "deed to group" and "owner makes contribution" boxes checked. When I click "deed" I get a pop-up explaining what will happen, but when I click "ok" I get a pop-up that tells me the transfer didn't go through because the group doesn't have enough tier. Is this a bug or am I just doing it wrong? Thanks for your help.
