HOW TO: TRANSFER LAND FROM INDIVIDUAL TO INDIVIDUAL
------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Use specific user**

1. Go to the land and right-click. Select "About Land" from the pie menu. An About Land dialogue box opens.

2. Click "Sell Land". A Sell Land dialogue box opens.

3. Type in the sale price
I highly recommend making the sale price 0 if you are transferring land. SL will not allow you to sell land to "anyone" for 0. A L$0 sale price is a nice safety check that you aren't selling the land to just anyone.

4. MOST IMPORTANT STEP!! In the middle of the box [step 2 in the Sell Land dialogue box], choose "SPECIFIC USER". A "Choose Resident" dialogue box will open.

5. Type the name of a person to whom you will transfer the land and click on "find". Highlight the name in the list that appears below, then click "select". The Choose Resident dialogue box will automatically close. The person's name should now appear in step 2 of the Sell Land dialogue box.

**If you choose ANYONE from the dropdown list, and you are selling below the market price for land, you're almost guaranteed a bot will buy your land. In effect, you are telling Second Life that you are selling the land to anyone in the game for the price you have just typed and that means anyone can buy it.**

6. Choose whether objects transfer.

7. Click "Set Land for Sale"

ONLY your intended buyer can purchase the land now.

HOW TO: TRANSFER LAND FROM A GROUP TO INDIVIDUAL:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Remove Tier Contribution from Group (if needed)
2. Transfer Land out of Group

REMOVE TIER CONTRIBUTION FROM GROUP (IF NEEDED)

Scenario: You own the full amount of land allowed by your tier level. You have some of that land in a group. You want to remove the land from group without bumping up to the next tier level.

1. Select Edit >> Groups from the menubar. The Communicate dialogue box opens to a list of your groups.

2. Highlight the group from which you want to remove tier. Click the "Info" button. The Group Information box opens.

3. Click the "Land & L$" tab.

4. In the Your Contribution box, enter zero and click "Apply".

This puts the group into negative tier and gives warning message in yellow text. It will be OK for a few minutes to have negative group tier to complete this transaction.

[N.B. You can simply sell land to yourself and tick the "remove contribution from group" box EXCEPT that if you do not already have sufficient tier to cover buying the land back out of the group, you are bumped up to the next tier level. These steps help ensure you do not incur a higher tier charge]

TRANSFER LAND OUT OF GROUP:

1. Go to the land and right-click it. Select "About Land" from the pie menu.

2. Click on the General tab.

3. Click "sell land"

4. In the new box, type in agreed price for land (can be L$0 which is the preferred amount when selling to yourself. SL will not allow you to sell land to "anyone" for L$0. SL forces you to sell to "specific person" so that is a nice safety check).

5. MOST IMPORTANT STEP!! Choose "SPECIFIC USER" from drop down box. In the new pop up box, type your own name and click on "find", then click "select"

**If you choose ANYONE from the dropdown list, and you are selling below the market price for land, you're almost guaranteed a bot will buy your land. In effect, you are telling Second Life that you are selling the land to anyone in the game for the price you have just typed and that means anyone can buy it.**

6. Choose whether you transfer the objects with the land.

7. Click "set land for sale"

8. Go to the land and right-click it. Select Buy Land from the pie menu.

9. Read the box that comes up very carefully. If there are any big, red X's (instead of green check marks), do NOT proceed. If there are green check marks, buy land from your group.

HOW TO: DEED LAND TO A GROUP (TRANSFER FROM INDIVIDUAL TO GROUP)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Join or Create a Group
2. Set Land Contribution
3. Deed Land to Group

JOIN OR CREATE GROUP

If you haven't already, you need to join the group you want to deed land to, or create a group. Note: You will need 2 people to create a group (Primary and alt avatars will be sufficient).

SET LAND CONTRIBUTION

1. Select Edit >> Groups from the menubar. The Communicate dialogue box opens to a list of your groups.

2. Highlight the group you will donate tier to. Click the "Info" button. The Group Information box opens.

3. Click the "Land & L$" tab.

4. In the Your Contribution box, enter the amount you want to donate and click "Apply".

DEED LAND TO GROUP

1. Go to the land and right-click it. Select About Land from the pie menu.

2. Click on the General tab.

3. Click the Set button next to the Group name. A list of groups will appear.

4. Select the group you want and click Set.

5. Check the Allow Deed to Group box nad click the Deed button.

Note: Owner Makes Contribution With Deed combines these steps if you want a shortcut. This assumes you wish to deed and contribute equal amounts.

If you get an error that your group does not have enough land credits, first check that you selected the correct group and you allocated enough land in the first step above.

Known issue:
If you have a parcel that used to be owned just by one owner and is now to be group land, there is sometimes an issue with being able to allocate land to a group as the system is seeing the owner as trying to own double the land as opposed to trying to change his or her allocation.

HOW TO: TRANSFER LAND FROM GROUP A TO GROUP B
-----------------------------------------------------------------

1. Set Destination Group as Active Group
2. Donate/Transfer Tier (Set Land Contribution)
3. Transfer Land to New Group

SET DESTINATION GROUP AS ACTIVE GROUP

Choose Edit >> Groups. In the box highlight the group TO which the land will be transferred. Click Activate.

DONATE/TRANSFER TIER (SET LAND CONTRIBUTION)

If you have donated tier to Group A for land and you need the tier in Group B, remove your tier donation in Group A.

1. Select Edit >> Groups from the menubar. The list of the groups you belong to appears. In the new pop up box, highlight the group where land currently is held (Group A). Click the Info button. The Group Information box opens.

2. Go to "Land and L$" tab. In the white box next to "Your Contribution" change this number to zero to remove all of your tier from group, or subtract the amount of the land you will remove and click "apply".

3. This puts Group A into negative tier and gives warning message. Don't panic. It will be OK for a few minutes to have negative tier in Group A to complete this transaction.

[N.B. You can simply sell land to yourself and tick the "remove contribution from group" box EXCEPT that if you do not have sufficient tier to cover buying the land back out of the group, you are bumped up to the next tier level. These steps help ensure you do not incur a higher tier charge]

4. Add tier (if needed) to Group B. [If Group B does not need tier donation, skip to steps for Transfer Land to New Group.] Select Edit >> Groups from the menubar. The list of the groups you belong to appears.

5. Highlight the group you want to donate to (Group B) and click the Info button. The Group Information box opens.

6. Click the "Land & L$" tab.

7. In the Your Contribution box, enter the amount you want to donate and click "Apply"

TRANSFER LAND TO NEW GROUP

1. Go to the land and right-click it. Select About Land from the pie menu.

2. Click "sell land"

3. In the new box, type in agreed price for land (can be 0).

4. MOST IMPORTANT STEP!! Choose "SPECIFIC USER" from drop down box. In new popup box, type your own name and click on "find", then click "select"

****If you choose ANYONE from the dropdown list, and you are selling below the market price for land, you're almost guaranteed a bot will buy your land. In effect, you are telling Second Life that you are selling the land to anyone in the game for the price you have just typed and that means anyone can buy it.*****

5. Choose whether you transfer the objects with the land.

6. Click "set land for sale"

7. Go to the land and right-click it. Select Buy Land from the pie menu.

8. Click on "Buy Land for Group" <--- Double check you have correct group active!

9. Watch for the transfer message. If Group B does not have sufficient tier, you will get a message saying the transfer failed.

1) Seller should right-click on land and choose "about land"
2) Click "sell land"
3) In new pop up box, choose price for land. Type in agreed price for land (can be 0)
4) MOST IMPORTANT STEP!! Choose "SPECIFIC USER" from drop down box. In new popup box, type your own name and click on "find", then click "select"

To be absolutely certain that prices aren't being applied before the user is, why not switch steps 3 and 4. If the first thing you do is set the name, it doesn't matter so much if you make any mistakes after that.

Good suggestion. I will edit my post to reflect this.

Transfer from individual to individual now says "type your own name", which will only sell to yourself. However, that's a brilliant idea.
Set Yourself as the user to buy, set the price and once you are ready change the name to the person you are selling to.
That should definately give the bots a hard time and prevent mistakes that benefit the new buyer at your expense :)

If you assume the best in others, you usually get the best back

Assume the best from thieves? A bot stole our land and never answered. It was resold to another person in a few seconds. Lindens did not care either. Our group was bankrupt so we have no choice stop paying for SL and reduce to basic account.

1) Make sure you have enough tier, personally, to buy land out of group.
2) If you have donated tier to group for land and have no tier left as individual, change your tier donation in group to 0. This puts the group into negative tier and gives warning message. It will be OK for a few minutes to have negative group tier to complete this transaction.

Very bad advice. Somebody who saw the land get stolen said:

Sell the land to yourself and check the box that says "Owner remove contibution with sale."

Thank you for your post, Akayda. This helps me to clarify why I've detailed the steps as I have written them.

If you have plenty of tier, both for group and yourself, you can indeed simply sell the land to yourself for nothing and remove tier from group.

The problem you are not anticipating with your suggestion is this:

Let's say you have only 512sqm of tier. You've donated all of this tier to a group and put your land in the group.

Now, you want to remove your land from the group.

If you try to sell to yourself without taking the tier out of the group first, you will be bumped up to the next tier level.

The steps I have outlined in my post will ensure that you are not bumped up to a new tier level and pay a higher land tier fee.

I am very sorry for your bad experience. I hope my suggestions help you going forward.

Kind Regards,

Skye

Going forward with what? We are old age pensioners and have no money pay for somebody to take our land and can not buy more. We even stop paying 10 dollars because these robots don't care about people just only taking land to make money.

(notable exceptions for wireless phone companies and ISPs).

You still forgot to add most of SL's Land Barons :)

6 of us from our group home donated our 512 the group which was deeded to the one piece of land. the land cost 45000 lindns.

The group leader tries to phone but got put on hold for a long time and they never called back.

This is very upsetting and we dont want to make more problems so our group dont use SL any more. I still go on sometimes because I have friends but can not afford land any more

Sorry to sound complaining.

If you guys were to obtain some new land, would you all come back? I feel so terrible that you guys got scammed and am willing to donate some land.

I lost the land allready once to a land scaner when I tryed to sell it to the group in the first place, luckily I been friendly(wasnt easy, lol) and they sold it back to me for the same price plus they explained to me how to deed the land to the group to avoid the problem of looseing it again.

thanks again Skye, xxx

Hiiii all... handy! Skye emailed me about this, thanx a lot. Just wanted to STICKY it and chime in with some things: I get really excited seeing great help docs from our Residents. However, through experience, I've found that the forums isn't the best place to create and expand on them, since if we were to keep stickying useful info, it gets very crowded and cluttery.

I wholeheartedly recommend making good use of our Second Life Public Wiki to share your tidbits, edit and refine them... and oh! What about adding some formatting for presentation, and pictures? That'd be kewl. =o) On the wiki, we already have a dedicated Volunteers section with a Library of help files, and even if you aren't in one of our official Volunteer programmes, you can still contribute!

I've put up a couple pages myself of help resources, linking to Texture Tools and Video Tutorials. Hopefully this gives you a more vivid idea of what you can explore next.

Good things to think about, and do, in the long run!

Thanks for providing this, Skye. Happy Second Life! =^_~=

So, Torley, you have stickied a mishmash of advice from a landbot runner about how we should avoid being ripped off by landbot runners?

And how when we are, we should ask pretty please with sugar on it and not be “aggressive” and “abusive?” Beg nicely, folks.

I call this stickied thread adding insult to injury.

Be fair, coconut. Skye, while a landbot runner, is one of the nice ones. She actually has a reputation for returning land that was mistakenly marked for sale to anyone. It's the unethical landbot runners who think nothing of keeping such land that you should be directing your anger at.

Just because the advice comes from the wrong mouth, that doesn't make it bad advice.

otoh, I do think landbots suck in general, as they destroy one of the markets for everyone who isn't a computer programmer, and hammer the search database endlessly. But that's a different issue.

The lack of response is truly unacceptable. That you would allow someone's land to be ripped off and not make any sort of attempt in resolving the matter at hand is terrible. I personally know him and hes truly a great guy, spends a lot of time in sl, and as far as that goes quite a bit of cash flow. Allowing others to steal land and do no investigating is truly a crime. This is something that is worth your time and effort to try and correct.

This just happend, have filled support request, can only hope it will be sorted
