From: Hate Hastings Yeah! My Trout rating!! I think we should be calling those "Trout Stamps" EDIT: I feel I should address the OP now that I've jumped into this thread. You're probably better off just blowing off the whole incident (and others, probably too) and going about your business and doing your own thing.

From: RaoulAngel Writer He banned me for looking in his store like any other customer becasue he saw a tag over my head he did not like. He then banned my girl for association with me after she purchased from him. You're kidding right? You don't really expect that anyone would think this merchant did anything wrong just by banning you, do you? As others have said, it's his land. If he decided he doesn't want you on it for any reason (or for no reason), that's his right. In RL, if your neighbor put up a fence so you could no longer walk across his lawn without permission, would you now be looking for ways to "report" him? Of course not. Well, SL is the same deal. Bottom line, this isn't the first grade, man. Little Johnny isn't gonna get in trouble with Teacher because he wouldn't share his candy with you. No one's obligated to let anyone else on their land, EVER. Respect other people's property rights, will ya? From: RaoulAngel Writer Took her money then banned her and told her he'd report her for Trial Abuse... How could he TAKE her money? If she bought something, she volunteered to pay for it. The fact that she and the merchant had a disagreement afterwards, no matter how unpleasant it might have ended up, cannot translate to "he took her money". It sounds to me like he ACCEPTED her money when she bought something. There's no way he could just TAKE it. SL doesn't work that way. As for the merchant's threat of an abuse report against her, just let it drop. If she didn't do anything wrong, she's got nothing to worry about. People threaten to "call the teacher" on each other all the time. Rise above it.

Um, actually there are certain aspects of what you just said about the RL what does not always apply in the RL. There are easements, zoning boards, community associations, ownership issues (there is a term I'd like to use, but it has flown away, hostile occupation? ack) that could get in the way of the neighbor just putting up a fence. And if the neighbor did, there are people you can talk to in real life. Even if it is a tiny little white picket fence, the neighbor might be "in trouble." Giant fences that block views, and the like, are also problematic in real life.

Same as in real life, you disallowed service by a store and asked to leave if the owner decided they don't like you. Most places have that sign up in RL I think. And sure, some places have laws that restrict fences, but in general, as long as you're not in a 'community' area, you can build a fence. And if someone trespasses into your land, you can call the cops (Often anyway, as long as you have it posted.)

Heh. .. i don't know if you guys have heard it but there's an audio recording circulating the intern3ts. its a recording of a woman calling 911 and asking for the police because a fast food restaurant staff were lazy and refused to serve her. The 911 operator reaction was classic. "Dispatcher: Is this like . . . is this a harmful cheeseburger or something? I don't understand what you want us to do." Here's a transcript. I can't find the audio. http://www.snopes.com/crime/cops/burger.asp/me apologizes for being off-topic.

If a person has used a certain pathway for a long time, as was implied in the comment, then an easement might have been created, and therefore the fence would be illegal. Even if we are talking about a private spot of land. That doesn't even consider such things like property completely surrounded by other property in RL (which does happen). And even if it is your private property, you do not have the absolute right to disallow anyone from being on it, at least in the US of A. There are certain exceptions, like easements, police in hot pursuit, fire fighters, public utilities, etc.

There was NONE of that going on. The point is that they can ban you, simply because they want to, and theres nothing you can do about it. EDIT:: THats the simplest there is to it, all metaphors gone, all ties to RL severed. You won't be helped by LL because you were banned, you'll just be told that they are allowed to ban you, for any reason, no matter what. They could ban you because your av is black(Random controversial reason), and thats that.

The response where I noted that I was specifically replying to the implication that in the real world you have absolute rights to your land. Had nothing to do with responding to people being banned in SL, other than the comment that it was just like in RL.

Clarifying..
10-29-2007 13:16
Sorry, I have created more confusion, let me clarify...
1. MY girl had no quarrel with him. A girl in my city did. My girl merely bought the script, the owner looked at my profile, saw she was my girl and banned her.
2. Hellenos is a Gorean city. I am admin there. Being in Gor seems to not have been the issue so much as that it was Hellenos, and the one other girl he had an issue with was what he apparently will now judge my city for, and I have only become admin this past two weeks.
3. I do not want to move on, and let it slide, he is a popular scripter, and his scripts are used in all of Gor and SL. I want to make use of them and I have a right, do I not?
4. I do not judge, so I do not wish to be judged, that is my quarrel, business is business, I can see banning me from a residential sim, where he doesnt want "my kind" or whatever on HIS land, but he is a STORE, a vendor.
I hope I have cleared this all up.

If he doesn't wish to sell them to you, then you don't have a right to use any new ones. If you cannot obtain them in another fashion. Store or residence, it is still his property. "I reserve the right to refuse service to you." is a valid statement in SL.
