Just the other day I was TOTALLY DISGUSTED by a Public Adult Conversation about Divorce Settlements and How to pay for your Kid's College Tuition!!!

Then it turned REALLY nasty as they started discussing AARP and Senior Citizen Discounts!!

Even then, if an adult verifies an account, an underage person could later log in on that account. Fake ID info has worked for some people. Seems to me the focus should be towards protecting the teen grid and monitoring possible sex predators who might prey on those underage accounts on that grid. SL is considered an adult game for 18 and over. Teen Second Life is just that , for teens. LL should concentrate on what's more important, TEEN second life, and moderate their activity NOT deprive those SL account holders of their rights as a consumer/player.

Since I'm lazy, have to ask this here; Will the Lindens start to restrict how clothing designers make clothes? Will creativity be restrained?

Why should anyone be concerned over minors being expose to adult content?

Lately, this is all you see here. All the talk about Zindra-this and Zindra-that. About kids and adult content. Day after day, post after post. You would think this was a Jehovah's Witness convention.
It's not my job or anyone elses go around saving anyones kids from anything. Let their parents worry about them. Secondly, this is a place you come for enjoyment and relaxation and not to act as saviors for anyone especially someone elses brats.

But the thing is these people here actually believe today's kids are dumb, stupid and naive when it comes to adult material. They're the ones who are terribly naive if they still haven't realize that nowadays these same kids they're so desperately trying to save know alot more then them when it comes to many things including sex. Yet, all they do is preach "Let's save kids".

If anything, let Linden worry about this. They're the ones making lots of money off people here. Secondly, if their parents don't worry enough about their kids to oversee their activities, especially on-line ones then why should anyone else lose sleep over it? I can't stand those who think they can save the world.

Minors are not allowed in SL. If some have snuck in they've violated one of the biggest rules to get there. Make the right choice and get LL to fortify the entry gates so they CAN'T get in. Forget the nonsense about filters and safeguards to be imposed on an already 18+ adult community.



Then you can appreciate the truth that parenting, and especially conscientious parenting starts at HOME... not here. Suggesting restrictions for all of SL as a moral protection for impressionable kids who might lie to get in is NO SMARTER than suggesting restrictions on all forms of christian media and dialog because one of those not-supposed-to-be-here kids may, in fact, be muslim.

I don't agree with what you are suggesting, but I will concede that there is an argument to be made here. Where you REALLY lost me, however, is with the language in which your justification for this is couched. Terms like "cesspool of filth" and "most morally correct" are highly subjective and value-laden terms that will probably evoke an emotional response, but that add nothing to your actual argument.

Who determines what is "filth"? Well, not even you, really: it's just a smear that's directed against a very loosely-defined target.

Or what is "morally correct"? I tend to find the term "moral" suspect in any case: it usually seems to refer to a set of values handed down by fiat or convention, rather than explored and defined through rational discourse. Are your views "moral"? Well, maybe, but not because you have a Bible that tells you so: they become "moral" when you can logically demonstrate that they represent a valid ethical perspective.

Your language here assumes a shared set of values that your audience here, anyway, clearly does not embrace. Moreover, by hiding behind words like "filth" and "morally correct," you rob us of the ability to really examine the validity of what you are saying: you are simply asking us to accept it without question. Most of us don't like to feel manipulated by inflammatory rhetoric: we resent the implication that we can be swayed by emotion, and that we don't deserve the respect of hearing a rational account of your views.

Try this again with a more rational, respectful approach to your subject and your audience. We aren't necessarily more likely to agree with you, but we will, in turn, respect your views more, and be less likely to respond with mocking contempt.

For what it's worth, I don't think the OP is trolling. He appears to be satirising the f@cked up moral values used to dress the whole Zindra exodus, which otherwise appears to be little more than a finagling of revenue from enforced land sales.

Many Americans wouldn't know a dictionary if it bit them on the butt, it seems.

They'll probably do no more than any other PG rated MMO has to do, if people use explcit chat or voice on inapproprate rated land they depend on enough people actually taking offense enough to report it. No reason why they couldn't make a profanity filter part of the viewer and just prevent offended people from viewing it. No point putting it on the offenders end as they would just turn it off or run an alternative viewer.
