I'm going to start by eating more imported cheese. Switzerland's not part of the EU. |

Send us food parcels.
Also some warm pullovers and woolly scarves. And some of those hats where the flaps come down to cover the ears. It's going to be a cold Winter. Or adopt us!! However, let me make it quite clear that I only want to be adopted by someone really, really, enormously wealthy. k? |

Oh, boy. So much to examine. Hmmm.
In spite of what you might think, or might want desperately to believe...Second Life is NOT "meant to be a place to relax and explore your imagination". If that were so, then the Lindens would have NEVER introduced an in-game currency that can be cashed out in the real world. This issue is almost competely about greed. The VAT issue is one which will make certain aspects of participating in SL more expensive for some Europeans - most notably those who want to own huge tracts o'land. This does, indeed, put those residents at a disadvantage - but life just ain't fair that way. I'm drop-dead certain that it's less expensive for Europeans to buy their own goods in RL than it is for me to pay for the cost of shipping and handling. But I haven't found myself shaking a fist in the air and screaming curses at the heavens over the high cost of ordering a genuine, hand-crafted bidet from Venice. And for those who think this is primarily a European issue since "a continent is in the way" - Ummm...not really. That's the confusing thing about SL - there are NO geographic, or even political boundaries, here. The person sitting next to you in your favorite SL hangout could be half a world away. Simply because that person's flesh and blood happens to be on the other side of the world doesn't mean I'm not interested in...or impacted by...an issue which is limited to their RL geopolitical location. All that having been said...I don't really give a rat's *ss about the VAT in Europe. I think LL making concessions to be a "global player" was idiotic. The servers and the service should have remained fixed firmly in the US - less complicated and less hassle. There will come a time, I'm sure when the EU is able to develop it's own virtual worlds - and they will, I'm certain, be enormously popular. Once they figure out how to create a world that doesn't jam shoes up people's *sses, that is. |

To Ee: My nearest Nandos is in Coventry ![]() We should all go there to calm down... force feed Brenda cheese for a laugh... then refuse to pay VAT on the bill! ![]() EDIT: except you pay the bill before you eat so that would be pretty pointless.... |

Sorry, but what really sickens me is that a very nice and very community-minded thread is taken off the rails by a mud-slinging match which then becomes a private dispute on a totally unrelated subject. Yuk.
Play nice folks, it´s easy and free. ![]() /me hands Ray some French cheese, Brenda some Italian cheese and the rest of those in need some pie _____________________

My av couldn't stop running the other day despite my AO being on ... everything was super fast and I was humming the Benny Hill theme. (I can't stand Benny Hill). Before Alt chimes in ... I was fully dressed. |

Actually, no...I didn't miss your point. But one of mine was that once you start adding the ability to "play" with money in SL...then things are apt to be a lot MORE nasty...not less. I also scoff at your pitiful attempt to distract us with pie. Real men just mainline the cool-whip right outta the can - and ignore the pie completely. It's the nitrous oxide that makes it all worth it. |

Sighs...........I am not Japanese but half Okinawian and my husband is 100 percent from Okinawa. Thus I am not Japanese and never will be. My other half is German but I place no demands on their goverment. Caring might sound nice but it is up to the EU client to make a fuss with their own goverment. Sad to say there is nothing we can do for you. Caring is not going to change your tax structure. You have to do something on your own. However you do recieve a benifit from the EU goverment yes? Yes it is sad to see you pay a new tax but that happens. You are going to have and deal with it. We wish kind thoughts would help but the EU is a goverment and sad to say most people in the EU are unaffected by this new tax and not caring. We wish you all the best! thanks for the wishes but, well, nobody asked for your help, nor your sympathy or anything. Nobody really forced anyone to say a good word or do anything to help. I would never , as european, would blame anyone or ll about the VAT. Only thing that made people scream was the no-warning implementation of tax, which happened guess what, by SL and not eu government. Now that lindens felt that they made a mistake, they give a grace period. So at least europeans will have the time to think what is the best decision for them regarding tax effect, if they willl liquidate all land and leave or stay without premium accounts, or any other alternative. And please , do not feel sorry for europeans or anyone. |

The only "p" word I'm interested in you bringing is the one made out of 100% cotton. The lace ones are rather nice too Ray. Don't get me started on the silk............._____________________

I've already reduced my inventory of available land to historic low prices. Is there anything else reasonable I can do to help my EU brothers and sisters ? Your VAT situation really sucks, to put it bluntly. Seriously .. what Conifer said: "Don't worry too much about us EU people. 17.5% tax on our RL's to let us play in a virtual world is neither here nor there. If we gotta pay, we gotta pay. It's not LL's fault, we're lucky our RL haven't had to pay VAT up to now." QFT! We've been paying 17.5% on everything else for years and we're hardly living in penury over here. Really, it's very nice of you Steve, but don't put your business at a disadvantage in the name of solidarity. ![]() |
