Especially when it's bigger than you .. and heading your way! I didn't know their surplus commodities had acquired sentience and become mobile - sounds like a Dr. Who episode! *panics at the thought of a slow-moving butter mountain* Well, anyways ... what *can* be done to show support? Search classifieds for VAT sales? |

Yes but my point is it is YOUR goverment and not mine. I pay taxes to 2 goverments and will be god damn if I am going to pay taxes to a 3rd country in which there is no connection to me. You recieve benifits from paying EU VAT Taxes, I would recieve no benifit at all. Thus if you have a problem it should be addressed to your local representative of the EU. We non members of the EU can not help you in the slightest. Yes I could show a "caring" attitude which would not at all be helpful.
As I pointed out it was your goverment that set this up for you. We Americans and other nationals have NOTHING to do with your taxes. Thus enjoy the fruits of your goverment. Oh I feel sad you have to bear this burden but it does not change a thing. If I had to pay EU VAT tax, would tell Linden Labs to take their game and shove it! I get no benifit from their taxes and will not pay them. You get a benifit but do not see the difference. This is just rude. Not all Europeans like the rule of Brussels, and many Europeans I have spoken with disagree with this tax scheme. It's silly to paint everyone with a broad brush. For Europeans, it's a cost increase. Yes, it's because of their tax system, which I think is silly, but at the end of the day many Europeans don't like this tax either, and it is hitting them hard. A little sympathy costs nothing, and is far better than simple rudeness. |

First of all the person you were addressing is American. Secondly, you're very naive if you think non-eu people won't be paying for this. EU business people will build this into their costs, you won't even know it's there. That's how business works, it covers its ass. Do you really think people will notice a 20% increase on a L$500 item? When people make new items, you won't even have a past price to compare it with. |

We can pretty much have baloon races with all the hot air around lately. Well I have had enough of it to be blunt. SL is meant to be a place to relax and explore your imagination or so we are told. My imagination does not need all this twaddle, and I am sick of nice threads being hijacked into crappy bunfights. To Ee: My nearest Nandos is in Coventry ![]() |

Take this to IM please. If this was an IRC channel that would be the request. Why do we all have to see this? So sorry for troubling you on this problem. I have long muted Usagi Musashi of Tokyo. I meet her as a newbie of 2 years ago when we still lived in Japan full time. I muted her after my first brief meeting. The central issue would be for others to pay taxes to a goverment in which they recieve no benifit. I recieve benifits from both the Japanese and American goverments and pay both of them in taxes. One more than the other but that is not the point. I would recieve no benifit at all from paying EU taxes. Thus I do not wish to pay them. True I might have to pay more to a EU vendor but they can not raise their prices too much or lose business. Why should we the non EU resident pay foreign taxes? I would quit Second Life first and join the new service from Japan. I refuse to pay upfront EU taxes. Lisen well Phillip, you can not please everone. How about pleasing the users from the country SL is based in? |

Oh gosh, gone from being rude to the Europeans to Japanese now. Surely the polite thing to do if you don't want to help in a thread like this is to ignore it rather than attacking people. I always considered the Japanese as the most polite society, how do they cope with you? Having a caring attitude may not help the problem, but it helps heal the wounds. Are you so uncaring to people in RL who have problems? Just tell them that kind words and caring don't help at all so tough luck? _____________________

Yes the cost of everything will go up in SL but you know what? TOUGH. That's the way the world works. |

Beijing taxis start at ten renminbi (Chinese dollars) and don't actually tick up for a good distance. ![]() |

Are you so uncaring to people in RL who have problems? Just tell them that kind words and caring don't help at all so tough luck? Sighs...........I am not Japanese but half Okinawian and my husband is 100 percent from Okinawa. Thus I am not Japanese and never will be. My other half is German but I place no demands on their goverment. Caring might sound nice but it is up to the EU client to make a fuss with their own goverment. Sad to say there is nothing we can do for you. Caring is not going to change your tax structure. You have to do something on your own. However you do recieve a benifit from the EU goverment yes? Yes it is sad to see you pay a new tax but that happens. You are going to have and deal with it. We wish kind thoughts would help but the EU is a goverment and sad to say most people in the EU are unaffected by this new tax and not caring. We wish you all the best! |
