The wording doesn't sound Lindenish.
"make room for"? Strange way of putting things. . _____________________

if LL posted it on their viewer when you were logging in, then i'd say it was real. if you found the pic somewhere, it's just someone's political statement, and not rael.

Someone mentioned this at SLU too, I haven't seen it yet. If it's true, it means LL has finally done something they said they were going to do, albiet long ago. Of course an announcement would be nice.

My guess would be fake...the last line, aside from being excessibvely blunt for LL, doesn't use the expected terminology. Residents, not people, Basic accounts, not free.

Probably fake
06-13-2008 08:20
Anyone can mock up a screen grab - if they can make the Incredible Hulk look like he's got real veins and skin in the movie, it should be pretty easy to make a screenshot look like pretty much anything you want it to.
I'm going with "fake" on this one. |

"...make room for..." ? Not a chance. A message this charged would be worded with the most careful corporateSpeak. Somebody dashed this one down without even trying to make it look official.

It's akin to good breast implants. Fake, but I can appreciate the sentiment.

Me comes out of "lurker mode"..
I can personally vouch for the Authenticity of the pop up. I crashed on Tuesday, and when I tried to return I rec. the very same Pop up. I was on the Nicholaz viewer EC-f at the time, but im not sure if that would have any bearing on it tho. ok, back to the foliage for me...atleast for now lolz Edited to add, well maybe i was wrong lol...i know that i seen the first half, but maybe the second have was omitted?...ok, im gone again. |

First, that does look like the RC button rather than the normal viewer button.
Second LL was going to restrict logins by the "No Payment Info on File/Payment Info on File" sort of thing. So, this one seems like a fake to me. _____________________

Yeah the language is way off.
Either it is a fake, Or the Linden who wrote it hasn't been indoctrinated yet. |

Me comes out of "lurker mode".. It's really hard to envision some programmer making up this text and turning it loose without passing it through PR first (or at least some level of management)... but I can't imagine any other explanation for the wording. _____________________

We've seen some hideously worded announcements and Customer Service letters here for quite some time, so that wouldn't make me dismiss it out of hand. _____________________

The first half looks totally fake to me. "... to make sure that those in-world have the best possible experience" ???? There's no way they'd be saying that - imo. I'm pretty sure I've seen them use that 'best possible experience' line in blogs or status reports though. _____________________

It was announced quite a while ago that this step would be taken if necessary. Whether that particular popup is the official one I'd have no idea but the concept is fact.

*welcome*. This is indeed fascinating. I don't have any of the Nicholaz viewers to search, but I passed pretty much everything in the current RC viewer through grep and found "make room" a couple of times but not "make room for"... which doesn't mean too much because that text could actually be pushed from the login server (I think). Yeah, those are MOTD-like things that do come from the server, and they do screw around with them sometimes like with "logins temporarily existed" silliness the other day. But that picture looks more like something that would show up somewhere like SLH than from LL. _____________________

When you open your log-in screen and see in the upper right hand corner Grid Status: Restricted, you’ll know that only those Second Life Residents who have transacted with Linden Lab *snip* will be able to log-in. No Linden would phrase it the way it's worded in the screenshot. |

Someone on Caledon group chat reported seeing this as well. I confess I'm with the "doesn't sound corporate enough" set; it's far too confrontational for Linden Labs, who if anything tends to err on the side of wembling.
