So people can't complain about being scammed?

On one hand a moderator is wanted as some have said. One guy said although he wanted a mod [don't know why] he didn't want threads closed or deleted.
Now I ask you, what do the mods in these forums do besides close down threads? Nothing! It's what they do, it's all they do.
It's like asking for rain but when it comes you complain you got wet. It's contradicting in whatever way you slice it and more importantly it makes little sense because you can't have one without the other.
I may be wrong but I've not seen them do anything other then closing threads of their choosing.

I previous thread was also and we did not call for one. It was the the heat was too much for the scammers so they filled the mailboxes of the moderators. Guilt can make you do strange things!

From: Rebecca Proudhon Yes, deleting a thread takes a Herculean effort. From: Colette Meiji I think she meant, one thread gets deleted and two more spring up to take its place. Ya think?

It all depends on where the thread was started. Not to mention, when you toss names up on forums, bad mouthing someone - regardless if it's true or not, this is no place to air out dirty laundry, even if the scam is bad. There is two sides to every story and this isn't a court of law.

What to do about land robery?
03-14-2008 00:41
I try to help a friend who finally saved enough money to buy some land on an island only to... you guessed it - to lose both the money and the land. The lady, who robbed her, owns quite a lot of land in that area on many sims - all parcels are for sale waiting for the next victims.
My friend had so many plans for that land, now she just wants to quit SL and forget about the whole thing. Even if she doesn't quit I don't think she will ever attempt to buy another land here - the magic is gone... I am sure this is not the first case like that.
May be I am too naive, but I just can't believe that there is nothing that can be done to stop people who make money by abusing trustful dreamers. They will just keep buying new islands from money they stole so they can steal more? And we have to be nice and not to mention their names or, god forbid, they might be offended? Interesting model!
If this is not the right thread, please, advise me where to post.

If this is not the right thread, please, advise me where to post. Join SLUniverse and post a thread naming and shaming the person who ripped your friend off. You are not being too naive. A company should come up with a way of keeping its customers from getting repeatedly ripped off while they are using their product. But LL does nothing. Imagine if people were being mugged inside a Starbucks every day and the management let it go on. How long would it be before Barista Linden no longer had anyone to make a non-fat latte for?

Now that White has explicitly stated a comment about someone being scammed, does that mean we can now expect this thread to disappear as well?

Call LL on the phone, AR the person who robbed your friend. The person may be a notoriously known individual and there are other people with same problem. they may be posting on the SL exchange forum. (google it). You may find a group of people complaining as a group, so hopefully it will work out.

Concerned people could become newbie helpers and start issuing warnings never to give anyone money without first making sure to know exactly what the risks are.

Scammers list
03-14-2008 01:28
Raymond, I just registered to SLUniverse, thank you. Is there some kind of a scammers list of dishonor there? or just people posting complains? The first thing I did when she gave me the name of the land owner - googled it, obviously. Nothing came up, then I looked in forums. To be honest I was quite shocked that not only there is no list of bad dealers, but according to this thread it is prohibited to post the names. Why??? if seller is a crook it is unethical to hide this fact. Probably right now somebody is paying her. Ebay is where it is because they have the rating system. And because if a seller is a crook Paypal removes his account right away. I guess Philip Rosedale doesn't want to be a billionaire.

The reason there is a no naming names rule is because theoretically you could be just trying to give a competitor a bad name. They would have no way to defend themselves unless they happened to read the forums and then it would become a he said she said situation. We haven't had a moderator in awhile (except for a few threads) so some have been posting names lately. I doubt there'd be any repercussions, but I guess it's up to the individual whether they want to or not. Since SLU doesn't have the same restrictions, it would always be good to search there to see if any comments have been made about a land dealer SL use to have a ratings system but it was pretty meaningless. Nowadays with people being able to create alts without payment it would be even more meaningless. The entire system would be rigged.

From: Bradley Bracken For those who posted in the vanished thread, have your posts disappeared from your history as well?
I do suspect the locks were a power trip from an inexperienced moderator who was a bit power hungry. Typically, though, a moderator does not have the ability to make a thread disappear. That would usually have to come from higher up. Either way, it is only going to get very, very ugly if that type of moderation continues. An inexperienced moderator, who has been in SL from the beginning it looks like. And has been listed as a ResMod for at least the year I've been here, if I'm not mistaken. Hmmmm as Dad used to say.."That guide dog ain't crossing the street". While a ResMod may not be able to delete threads as far as WE know, favors can be called in. "Hello, Operator. Please connect me to Nepotist Linden".
