It isn't clear at this point whether this is an actual policy of Linden Lab or if an old moderator decided to pull out her latent ResMod powers. If you note at the forum page, all of these historic moderators are still active as far as the forum software is concerned:

Chadrick Linden, Char Linden, Mick Linden, Elle Pollack, Jana Fleming, Millie Thompson, Seldon Metropolitan, Zapoteth Zaius, Strife Onizuka, Adam Zaius, Cybin Monde, Milo Linden

To my recollection, at least one of the listed Lindens doesn't even exist any more. It is my hope that this recent spate was someone dusting off their antique powers and simply represents lackadasical technical operation of the forums. I suggest people visit sluniverse.com where at least the
tags
work and you are never at risk of having your SL account terminated if you post something that violates the mystical protcols of the elders of Linden.

What people asked for was a moderator. The definition of moderate is:

From: someone

1. the quality of being moderate; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance.

The actions taken were extremes, not an avoidance of them. A power trip is not moderation.

Ricardo, for once, you are the voice of reason and sanity in a thread.

Really? Oh, no!!! Don't tell me this, please! I knew I shouldn't be poping those pills the psychiatrist gave me. I'll stop and go back to my usual ways.

Apparently deleting that thread was akin to cutting off the head of the Hydra.

Just deleting a thread and denial of the existence of a big problem will only present a larger problem for linden when they actually do have to deal with the problem. Sad fpr them.

Why should they? They are getting what they want via the stealth approach. We begged for a Moderator, and our wish was granted. Next time, be careful what we wish for.

Fuckit All!

A certain parable about frogs wanting a king and getting a stork comes to mind.

I think she meant, one thread gets deleted and two more spring up to take its place.

If the new thread does not pop up here its will pop up in slex. If LL is not going to do anything about scam in world or out since a great many people advertise outside of sl.
they must deal with the complaints. Land and other scams are real!. We can blame the buyers but the complaints serve a purpose. At least it may save a few from the same trap. We can't alway go around spreading "SLOVE"

I used to run a forum with over 40K members and no moderator... Had no time to play. When I deleted threads OMG the drama. So one day I just decided to move the deleted threads to a trash forum where only registered members could read, not accessible to public. I also opened a forum to allow people to vent when needed with some restrictions still. It worked well. Posts made to that forum didn't count toward posts count. Only a certain group could access that forum.

I'm sure linden could find a compromise. And when closing threads a clear short explanation showing understanding to the posters too not just talking about the reason why the thread was closed would be sweet :)
What I mean is that its very annoying to get your mouth shut when you are frustrated. If the thread isn't deleted but just moved... names removed if necessary, maybe it could work. That would certainely slow down frustration of having posts deleted and prevent some people from keeping posting the same threads over and over again.

What does tinned luncheon meat or unsolicited adverts have to do with unethical landlords and locked threads?

It's really not contradictory at all. It makes perfect sense if one believes, as I do, that threads would not be deleted or closed without comment if there were active resident moderation according to the guidelines. It simply did not happen when there was an active ResMod. The same threads and others might have been locked, or sent off for "Linden Review" but at least there'd be an explanation.

I agree the forums need to be moderated. I just wanted to point out that the thread mention which disappeared "Crime in SL" occurred while Strife was moderating, yet he did not comment on its removal. I doubt he deleted it.

At the supermarket I go to they even have a generic version of spam.

Not really on topic I know. But weird.

He said he couldn't delete posts/threads at least once that I remember.

I guess maybe moved to linden review does make more sense.

If a thread is deleted, do the thread numbers get changed to eliminate the gap?

I'm only guessing, but I suspect not. Are you suggesting there might be a way to find lost threads?

For those who posted in the vanished thread, have your posts disappeared from your history as well?

I do suspect the locks were a power trip from an inexperienced moderator who was a bit power hungry. Typically, though, a moderator does not have the ability to make a thread disappear. That would usually have to come from higher up. Either way, it is only going to get very, very ugly if that type of moderation continues.

Yeah they are poofed. I checked for myself and a few other people.

Some people whose postcount says 15-20 only have 3 posts in their history now.
