Selling Sex in SL?

come on now, virtual sex has gotta be for losers, the way i see it people that cant get sex in real life are the ones that have in sl. if you need to get sex that way it must the only way you can get it. i reckon you must be totally desperate!!!

Virtual sex is too easy to decry. Why does it bother people so much? There is a certain moralizing inherent in "certain cultures" that see anything sexual or sensuous as a behavviour that is corrupting and that must be dismissed with a frown and even some anguish.

Sex is - to be blunt - sex. Here and in real. It does NOT require commitment, or a token of partnership or marriage. It just two people coming together and finding some pleasure in each other's company. No one forces the sex on anyone. So its where you look of you glance around. So, take a look in real life. It's everywhere and I, for one, am in favour of it. I am proud to be sexual and pleased that others find me sexy enough to enjoy intercourse with me. Shall I wear a scarlet letter? Will you shave my head and parade me through teh streets? Will I be shunned? In my line of work in the real world, sex sells teh product. I am not ashamed to say that.

We must be hanging out in different parts of SL. There's certainly plenty of areas where you see that, there's also plenty of areas where you don't, unless you're talking about the use of sex and sexuality as part of advertising for things that aren't explicitly sexual, maybe?

Does the use of sex to sell things in RL bug you?

I was talking to my real mum today about when she wore Mary Quant mini dresses and micro minis and all about teh sexual revolution and how young girls were regarded as immoral if they wore such things. I dont wish to shove sex down anyone's throat or penetrate that armour of modesty that others extol. But what is this moral code everyone keeps talking about? But it might be interesting to know if people who have regular real sex, do or do not participate in virtual sex. I think that's why it doesn't interest me, nothing substitutes the real thing.

Sex in SL is just one bit of the overall possible experience. There are things people like, and it's just that. Some people desire a bit of eroticism in their lives that they might not be able to physically accomplish, so, they play act it in a virtual world. Sounds fine by me. Other people are completely and utterly disinterested and/or get their satisfaction just fine without virtualizing it. Again, no problem there. ((I, myself, have a RL relationship, nearing 10 years, and have been no better or worse with the way I lead my RL and SL lives. Immy is a pretty separate person from my own. And while she is very "me"... My own self is not conflicted with the way she acts inworld.)) (^_^)

The only think I don't like, is the restricted views that people have. SL can be anything you want it to be. If you want an erotic wonderland, build it and they will come. If you want a pastel prairie field free from the trappings of an apparently porn-saturated internet, then by all means go for it. (^_^)

SL is both a product and a production. Final and in process. "Be the change you want to see in the world" and you will find your part of the world will be a pretty nice place. (^_^)

My problem only comes in the restrictions of it all. I dip into a bit of everything here. From some of the most innocent play, to potentially some of the most offensive content. I'm no better or worse person because of it and nobody is harmed in the process. Any amount of restriction is pretty harmful to my experience. I understand that there's a place for everything. You surely won't find me in my most extreme play in my favorite sandbox. Yet, you also won't find my building & teaching in my favorite fun-spots. (^_^)

SL is sexual because it can be. SL is also PG because it can be. And a land of cartoon tinies... And a religious gathering... And a whole new dimension in art and expression... And a living storybook of wonder... And... need I go on? BUT! Come the day someone says "You can't do that"... Something has gone terribly wrong. These other grids that are maintaining a grid-wide PG status or something of the sort WILL find trouble in that. People like to be free and I see freedom as an "and" situation in a grid. To be free to be "me" means being able to be sexual AND being able to avoid sex by all means. (^_^)

For that, SL and the community delivers. Sure, there is some exploration that I'd enjoy that has been restricted from the SL grid. But, that's a small loss in comparison to the "You must have sex here" vs "You can't have sex here" nature of many of the other grids. So... Here to stay (or at least until they ban my butt) (^_^)y

Except for these forums where I am fairly tame and my real world where I am outspoken and very much as pushy as I can be, SL offers an opportunity for some quiet time with a man I have come to love and, yes, we have sex in sl. It is not "dirty", it is not breaking any rules; it's simply expressing a human quality that we share. And teh wonder is that over thousands of miles we achieve orgasm. It is truly, truly a human moment. There is nothing sleazy about it. But then, I was not brought up to see sex as sleazy or "dirty" or requiring a "moral code". It expresses myself, me and I. I am so sorry for people who find sex a quagmire of doubt and distrust; it must be a very very strange way to have intercourse - to always feel a sense of guilt or shame.

Even few if you have read what I said or got it.
I don't think certain things should be for sell any where.
I don't think sex should be about one person and not about the other person even casually but I have done casual sex, I have had committed sex and my experiences have changed how I feel about it.
I am all for freedom of expression and believes but if you want freedom
I guess you have to have to respect others who have different needs too.

Not being argumentative here BUT what is sad about experimenting and playing? We dont hurt anyone. We are adults. I know a few RL married people that are partnered in SL and use the sex in SL as foreplay to their RL sex.

Additionally, are you going to claim that every person that masturbates in RL at any time for any reason is desperate and cannot get RL sex? Most people I know have at one time or another in their life masturbated while looking at a porn magazine, a porn movie, or some other porn -- or maybe just while playing a fantasy in their head. The difference between those methods and SL is that SL lets two people do it together instead.


The judgmental attitudes of some people really make me laugh. That extreme righteousness quite often leads them to make stupid illogical statements.

Of course I have also often found that some of the people that scream this particular line the loudest are really just jealous and/or frustrated that they cannot loosen up enough to try it.
