From: Dnali Anabuki Nice guys often are really shocked to find out how revolting and creepy other men can be. I'm not very nice, and I'm constantly shocked by how revolting and creepy other guys can be. Any thread that concerns pick-up lines, how to avoid being harassed, or anything to do with dating in SL is almost always mind-boggling to me. OK - I've reached a decision. Lexxi and a few others made male alts at my urging to find out how the other half lives. Lexxi's rocks, by the way. I'd buy him a beer in RL if I met him. I can't complain about women not having perspective without being a hypocrit, so I'm going to give being a woman a shot. I'm not doing anything with anyone, but I'll make a female alt, get her reasonably tricked out (cheaply tricked out) and wander around just to see if I get some horny idiot trying to hump my leg. I have to see if all these stories are exaggerations or if my fellow guys are really a bunch of drunken chimpanzees.

to be fair, that usually only happens if you are in a raunchy place, or in the general public, or on your private land.

You are definitely slutty in the best possible definitions of the word. Dirty, hot, and a little scary, but in a good way. I'd like do awful things to you, but I'm pretty sure you'd snap me in two like a twig and leave me cross-eyed, dizzy and confused. I'm giving you a 9.8, tied for the top rating ever given. Almost off-the charts slutty. Shame on you and congratulations. -- Trout

Just be honest.
If you're confused and not sure how you feel about him, say so, and say until you figure out how you feel things can't go forward.
If you're uncomfortable with the idea of meeting him say so.
If you're interested in meeting him but aren't sure where things should go afterwards, then make that clear.
If he pressures you, tries to get you to change your mind or to understand things that just plain don't make sense, then he's the type that will continue to try to manipulate you. Give him no more leverage to do so.
I'm a firm believer that our avatars are like our "phone voice". It's just a different side of ourselves, not a seperate/different person. HOWEVER... when meeting an online friend for the first time it must be understood that it is the beginning of something completely different.
I've seen too many romances and friendships utterly crumble when people met face to face because it shattered their asumptions about the person they had befriended online.
It's too easy to let people see only what we want them to see when we interact online. Real Life delivers the whole package, warts, psychosis, quirks and all.
If you have any reservations or worries, don't meet him. Trust your gut.

Actually, all that is required are breasts. Ruth will get plenty of attention, all she has to do is have her sliders at anything above 0.

From: Hate Hastings Indeed. And I suspect that some see Ruth's as easy prey... I think a lot of people confuse the Default female avatar you start out with with Ruth. You almost never actually see Ruth unless SL is being Glitchy. That female shape, skin, hair and outfit you get when you very first start SL, isn't Ruth. I am positive tho that the people who look like they just got to SL, like you said are seen as easy prey.

For what it's worth here's how addictions work. You find something or someone that makes you feel really good. You want to keep that feeling so you keep going back for more. After a while what you've been doing or who you've been seeing starts to make you feel bad instead of good. But it still makes you feel good sometimes, or you hope it will again, so you keep going back for more, even though more and more it makes you feel bad. Now you start to get confused and doubt your own judgement. You need that good feeling more than ever. You try harder and harder to make it somehow be the way the way you need it to be. You keep hoping it will be. The only way to avoid the misery is to realize that avoiding it is worth giving up on that hope.
