Let's summarise:

Jig: "I think you're sick."
Immy: "I think you're sick."
Pep: "I think both of you are sick."

Pep (You're wrong Immy; anyone can think what they like; they can also believe it and say it; it's only if they do something about it that their opinion matters.)

Not too sure what you think is NOT sick in sl.

Hmm... technically noone is sick in SL... unless they script some sort of illness. Things can be sick, of course.. there are always bugs out there....

I think it is important to explore and question. I do understand the 'this is just virtual, no harm can come from it' concept and that definately applies to the physical in SL but since behaviors can be learned, it is not a given that there are no intellectual or psychological risks to watch out for.

That is again, just my opinion and is meant more as a 'be careful and be respectful of others' than a condemnation of any given activity. Everyone has different tolerances and different abilities to handle any given situation. For some, maybe even for most, the risks are minor. For others, not so much.

I am enjoying this thread but not for any of the reasons you all would understand.

Pep (It's wonderful to see people living up to my expectations. )

PS Or should that be 'down' not 'up'? :D

I'd expect nothing different!

Sure there is a group for everything but that doesnt mean to say we need to approve it or that it is healthy. What is wrong with saying something is unhealthy or unprincipled or sordid or ...?

Nothing is wrong with having an opinion and stating it. You're not required to agree with or disagree with anything anyone does; in SL or RL for that matter.

What you are *not* qualified to do however is pass judgment on what is "healthy behavior", what is "principled", "sordid" or any other descriptive term about any other persons behavior, or how they choose to live their Second Life or RL. None of us are. These are just your opinions. They are not the *way it is*, and that is how your postings comes across Jig. It makes you sound like the morality police, which bugs me. But frankly we're all guilty of that. Being judgmental I mean.

From: someone
It takes all sorts, I know. But some of what it takes is not so much a liberal viewpoint of world but more of a perverse nature...

Perverse? Could you please expand on this and explain what you mean? Are you saying that one has to be perverse in order to play a child avi or to understand why someone would want to?

From: someone
I know the child avi "lobby" is a powerful one in forums and many "play" at responding to them like we think they really are 6 or 7 years old but we know they aren't. I only ever address them as adults ... Suggesting it ISN'T a healthy way to inhabit SL is not failing to understand something, its saying that for most part, people don't think acting out as a 6 year old is a cool thing to do. Or am I in a minority here?

I personally don't respond to them in that way. I don't engage in the role play. Also I think I've been fairly open about how "I don't get it" and how it personally squicks me out as well. So we're pretty much on the same page here.

But for you to suggest it is not a "healthy way to inhabit SL" again, you don't have the credentials to decide that; none of us do.

And speaking as someone who's daily work is to wade around in the despair and horror of other people's minds all day, every day, trust me; there are far worse things these folks could be doing.
