He's your SL partner and he doesn't let you map him? I hope he doesn't insist on being able to map you. If he does = *alarm bells*
I thought that the man in question was the OP's real life partner, and he had a Second Life partner of his own. That's the impression I got from the OP's tale.
Having said that, I can see no reason why anyone should feel obliged to let their SL partner map them. That would be akin to being made top telephone your real life partner hourly to give them a progress report of your day and current location.
