Basic Account Inactivity

I just had a question about the basic accounts. Will a basic account pend to be canceled, and then canceled due to a period of inactivity? I'm only curious because I've just recently switched to the basic account because I am unable to log in due to my current deployment to Iraq. I will be deployed for about eight or nine more months. Any feedback with this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Liquid,

I don't know the answer but I'm sure I can find out for you from one of my fellow mentors. I don't 'think', since it's basic, that the account will just disappear....but I'm sure if you've got some inventory you don't want to lose, you could probably get in touch with the Linden office and find out the skinny. In the mean time, I'll do some research on it for ya. ;)

As far as I'm aware the account wont be made Inactive.

You should leave a Message on your Profile, and perhaps a close friend or family member could log in as you every now and then, the log back out, so it shows you're not Inactive?

You could try looking on the KB and attending a Linden Office Hour, to ask them.

Hope you find your answer! :)

Good luck in Iraq.

Thank you, Milla. I've been finding it difficult getting any kind of feedback from LL.

The only kind of account that will ever get deleted is a premium that lapses on a payment.

How long can my Second Life account remain inactive before it's deleted?
As long as you're in good standing with Linden Lab -- not delinquent with billing or otherwise in violation of the Community Standards and Terms of Service -- your Second Life account can remain inactive indefinitely....

Liquid,
I'd definitely call their toll-free number and explain the situation. I'm 99% sure that all accounts remain active forever, unless the owner expressly requests deletion of the account. Just to be sure, though, I'd call LL and tell them what's going on. Here's their number:

Toll-free (US/Canada)
800-294-1067
or
Long-distance (not free)
703-286-6277.

They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Good luck in Iraq. With any luck, it'll be as uneventful for you as it was for me. Buy gold. :)

Can't give you an exact answer to your question, but there are some interesting low-bandwidth options for accessing SL..

You might want to bookmark http://www.ajaxlife.net

AjaxLife is a text-only web-based SL client.. that will allow you to at least "log in" and use SL, much like a basic chatroom. You'll have access to your L$ balance, IMs, profiles.. and whatnot. You can keep up on the various updates here: http://blog.ajaxlife.net/

AjaxLife would at least allow you to "keep in touch" with your SL friends.. and logging in via Ajax, would at least let you "tag" the login servers every couple of weeks (or however often you can get online).

When bookmarking, make sure to either bookmark the link on THIS page, or else edit the bookmark so it points to http://www.ajaxlife.net (not the weird http://75.101.243.233/ or whatever numbers come up)... because that IP address changes from time to time.

"a premium that lapses on a payment"

It helps to read to the end of a sentence.

It all depends on the Office Hour you go to, that isnt a Support Question, such as Why can't I log in or I have this Bug, It is a Question, and any Linden that he asked would be willing to answer it, especialy if he goes to a Liason's or Community Team Related Linden's Office Hour. I know this because I've been there, and I've done that.

If you would take the time to check ones public profile, instead of laughing at them you might learn that english may not be someones primary language.

Lapsing on a payment means you don't pay, it has nothing to do with billing errors.

/111/34/255235/1.html - you can go tell the OP of that thread (there's dozens more of them if you care to search) that his account never really got deleted because you said so. I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Or you can go argue about it with Robin (/139/76/149577/1.html):
From: Robin Linden
When someone cancels their account, or let's their account go delinquent, we give them 30 days to change their mind or make their balance whole. After 30 days we remove their in-world assets, and after 60 days we remove their inventory, including their avatar. Their account name remains theirs.

We do this because the in-world and inventory assets use up resources, and if the account is no longer active we try to recover the resources.

Hey I used "lol" all the time, it's something I add to most things I write, it makes it seem more fun and friendly, cassual.

What does it matter about language, I asked him to explain, in a friendly way because I wasn't sure what he meant exactly, the English was fine I just didn't understand the meaning behind what he said, or who he was directing it to.

Are you just going to pick problems with me, in everything I post on this Forum? Did you check that English is my First Language?
Guve me a break, I'm doing my best to avoid negativity, but you seem to find a way to create it with eveything I write.

I've had a few "losses of internet access" for prolonged periods over the last 2 years, so I'll do what I can to share what I've learned, and what "what iff" solutions I've used and considered.

You might also want to turn on "Send IMs to Email"

https://secure-web7.secondlife.com/account/contact.php?lang=en

The neat thing about this feature, is that it works* even if your offline IMs are capped. Then you can simply "check your email" to see if you have any messages in SL that "need tending to".. this is exceptionally useful during extended offline periods.. because it only takes about 20 IMs to cap your stored list.. and if you're a busy-bee like me, that can happen just by going to sleep.

Also, if you have a shop, or items you sell, it might be a good time to spend a couple of hours and get those items up on SLExchange. SLExchange, aside from having a web-based way to "cash out" your Lindens, ALSO has something called the "remote deposit" box.

http://uncensored.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=207296

This handy little item, will allow you to actually withdraw L$ from your SL account, using their web interface. Darn handy if you're limited to web access but still want/need to tap your cash earnings in SL. Of course you have to have access to land where you can rez at least a couple of prims and be assured that they'll be able to STAY there for "the long haul".

If you need hosting.. SLExchange actually offers it free for 2 months.. you may be able to work out a small-fee prepaid arrangement for longer term storage. http://uncensored.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=3&categories=Marketplace+-+Merchants#31

Oh, and this SHOULD go without saying.. write down your account information and include it in an "in the event of my death" package.. if you're earning cash in SL, you can in fact "will" your SL account to your family.. but that process may take quite a while to resolve. HAnding your family your login information will allow them to access your account and any L$ you might have accrued.

-------------------------------------
* Linden Lab definition. Similar usage to "Fix" which Linden Lab seems to have gotten out of a Veterinary Medicine dictionary.. where "fix" is analogous to removing the genitals from your cat.

Usagi has had a problem with me on the forums for over a year now for whatever reason and apparently delights in just posting something nonsensical that tries to take a jab at me.

He/she used to quote, but that went wrong in a thread a few months ago where he/she quoted someone else but still took his/her little jab at me which caused confusion with the person who got quoted. So now it's just a random comment seemingly directed at noone.

Doesn't bother me in the slighest since I don't have a clue who he/she is, and if that's the best thing he/she can think of doing with his/her time *shrugs*.

But it's perfectly alright for Usagi to comment on other people's writing?
