Liquid, I used to have a friend in the service in Iraq and he was able to access sl. Not very good though I might say. He said that his superiors were the ones with the good connections. There were many times that he could not move his avi, but he could most definitely IM me and I could tp to him.

/me gives him a gentle hug and kiss before he leaves. Be safe our hero!!

Usagi has had a problem with me on the forums for over a year now for whatever reason and apparently delights in just posting something nonsensical that tries to take a jab at me.

He/she used to quote, but that went wrong in a thread a few months ago where he/she quoted someone else but still took his/her little jab at me which caused confusion with the person who got quoted. So now it's just a random comment seemingly directed at noone.

Doesn't bother me in the slighest since I don't have a clue who he/she is, and if that's the best thing he/she can think of doing with his/her time *shrugs*.

But it's perfectly alright for Usagi to comment on other people's writing?

Not at all, I would say the same to UM.

I thank you for your service LZ. Xplorer

As do I. Thank you to all who serve their country or community, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless You All.

Kira, it depends on where you are in country, and what you do. I'm centralized outside Fallujah, and our network blocks almost everything, as well as various outgoing ports, including the one the SL client requires. It's a security measure.

Thank you for the kind gesture!

I just had a question about the basic accounts. Will a basic account pend to be canceled, and then canceled due to a period of inactivity? I'm only curious because I've just recently switched to the basic account because I am unable to log in due to my current deployment to Iraq. I will be deployed for about eight or nine more months. Any feedback with this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

-LZ

Dude .. why do you feel the need to post the reason for your absence?

You chose your career and also your employer.

You don't have to "switch" to basic because you can't log in .. direct debit means nothing to you ?

As for all the avatars thanking you .. I don't know why . other than the US greed for the black stuff .. Supp ? Texas running low ?

If you're implying that I'm looking for some kind of glorification or recognition, you're wrong. Personally, I don't agree with us being here. Most of us want it to end so we don't have to deploy every seven months or every other year. Now if you think about it, we could up and leave... and in our wake, leave a country in complete ruins. You have no idea what we are doing for these people. The US greed for the black stuff? You're nothing but a happy consumer who sits on their ass watching CNN. You want a reality check? Live it.

And for switching to basic... why pay for a feature I don't use? Direct debit has nothing to do with it. When I'm home, I pay a cellphone bill. When I deploy, I have the account frozen so that I'm not billed for a phone service I can't use. Yeah, I could use direct debit and have them charge me while I'm out here... doesn't make much sense, though, now does it?

I don't know you reasons for including the reason for you being absent .. it does'nt make any diffrence to the answer you would recieve.

You could end up and leave ? .. I dare ya. Court martial ? .. even if you could find transport back home.

In your wake .. yes !! your wake.. seems Iraq civillians ( the law abiding ones ) were better off before " your wake " hit them.

Consumer lol .. no I don't need the oil your killing for.

gee, much hate in this one.

Many people mention why they are not going to be able to log in.

Debit on a service he can not use = wasted money

As for the last, a soldier doesn't set policy or pick the fights. The reasons for being one vary, but regardless they sign a line that basically puts them on a firing line for others. They catch the misguided hate of those that disagree with their countries policies, and at times are risking their lives because they feel a duty to defend the people they care about.

You got a problem with a country take it out on the leadership, not the guys in the trenches who want to do what they can to protect what they feel is precious enough to risk death for.

I'm starting to regret stating the reason for my absence. I never asked for anyone's thanks. As for where this thread is headed, I refuse to continue. I'm not about to engage in this kind of argument. I received a lot of helpful information, and that's all I needed. For those of you who provided it, I thank you.

I recall from conversations with an SL friend in a similar situation that your access is likely to be poor if at all existant. I would advise the use of Ajaxlife and Sleek - you may have the odd period where you have access, but it will not be reliable at all, no matter where you are posted.

For the record I am most utterly opposed to said conflict, far more than even the average "war protestor", but really, it isn't as if giving some random person grief on the Internet is going to achieve anything here. If anyone cares to ask for advice on whether or not to join the military or the ethics of said pursuit I would quite happily give them my opinion. Advice on the likelihood of SL connectivity is another matter.
