Emerald viewer boondoggle

I started up the new Emerald viewer, edited preferences, but did not log in, and unchecked the 'remember name' box. After changing a variety of preferences, I exited the client and restarted it. The stupid 'remember name' box is checked again, but all of my preference changes were kept --- and they were almost all on the Emerald tabs, but not all.

I don't know what I did, but my preferences finally stayed where I wanted them. Like.. getting rid of voice.

I'm going to play around with the AO later, but right now, I must break the build tools!

It did lock up and then crash when I tried to enable the bouncy boobie settings.

Hmm, maybe bouncy boobies are not for me.

My shadows won't enable, but I probably missed a step. The box unchecks itself.

Hmmm..maybe I'll wait a few days before downloading the new version - sounds like there are some glitches to work out.

When I log in using the new Emerald there is a strange glowing sphere above my head...

What is it, and how do I get rid of it?

Back to using Cool Viewer for the time being...

That's the voice indicator. That's one of the preferences that does not want to stick for some, you can rip out the Vivox dll or shared lib from the Emerald folder to force it off.

The strange glowing sphere is -- almost certainly -- an indication you have got Voice enabled. Go to Edit-Preferences-Voice Chat, disable it, and the sphere should be gone.

Th freaky thing is that it goes away when I enter the parts of my land with all perms off, but pops in when I hit linden land or the parts of my land with more open perms.

Made me think one of my neighbors has a spy prim going, until I logged in with another viewer.

How strange it won't recall the settings. I had a look at my Preferences tab when not logged in, and saw that it seems to revert to the default. But then, when I log back in, it remembers what I've set it to.

All I can suggest (she said, feebly) is posting a bug report at the Emerald forum or possibly asking over the road at SL Universe. Chalice is fielding questions over there in Technical Help/Alternative SL Clients and she might be able to advise.

In the latest SL, there are one or two debug settings that must be enabled for shadows to work. I wonder if one or both of those need to be set first before the box will stay checked.

it's probably just turning on and off with land that has voice on or off..i think most linden lands have voice activated..

I also notice that every new avatar I use with the new emerald -ALWAYS- fails to login in the first try with a password error, but then just typing the same data in works on the second try...

That's making me really worried about what's going on. Changed all my passwords.

Sheesh peoples really don't deserve a thing, even for free stuffs they manage to complain...

Yeesh, sorry. I'm still trying to get my mind around "jiggle technology" . . .

(But then I think man-boobs should be banned in SL anyway. If you don't NEED to have them . . . ?)

At the moment, all I've been able to do is set it up. I'll keep working on populating it, moving info there, but please feel free to go and add stuff.

If you're not certain about where something goes, just make a new page and I'll organize it later.

I figure that there is a LOT to know about this viewer, and that the people coding it don't have a lot of time to write about it, so we can help out on that end.

Hmm.. I don't think I'm complaining. I just notice a few kinks that could be worked out so what our preferred kinks can work.


Is anyone else experiencing seriously long load times for textures and such? I have to swap to Snowglobe if I want to do anything visually and fast. Or are there setting that Emerald could so with to speed it up?

Make sure the hardware skinning graphics option is checked.

Your graphics adapter may not support the features necessary to enable shadows.

I switched from the optimized version to the normal version and then downloaded the prop pack too..My rezz times are actually better now.
I'm not sure what the difference is between the two..I don't seem to be missing anything i had before..

I thought the optimized was supposed to run faster... >.< Okay, I'll go back to the normal one and give that a shot. I was using the prop pack with the opti one.

Nooooo, I like my huddles too much for my dances to get rid of it.
