I DLed the new Emerald yesterday in response to the login-page upgrade nag.

I've been an outspoken proponent of Emerald thus far, but I'm quite unhappy with this rendition - Emerald has let me down bigtime. To be fair, this is the first time the product hasn't been perfect... but this one is quite frustrating.

It refuses to retain my preferences on several items and absolutely rejects all first login attempts for every alt. I have manually deleted all cache and preference information, and even redirected the cache to a new location with no change in results.

I'm hoping that many of you out there are suffering similar frustrations with this release so that it may be soon fixed/replaced.

Thanks for the warning, I noticed the upgrade this morning but didn't have time to upgrade ... I will avoid it now.

Actually, I think we'll have a better chance of winning the lottery than figuring out the information from the Lindens.

Curious about the Emerald Viewer and all the features?

Doesn't this new version have "Jiggle Technology" making it the best sl viewer ever?

I'm having a few problems with the client-side AO but have had no problems with log-in or preferences on either Windows or Linux.

Its refusing to remember preferences suggests there's something funny about the channel settings. If I right click on my Windows desktop shortcut for the latest Emerald, choose Properties and then look at Target on the Shortcut tab, it says
From: someone
"C:\Program Files\GreenLife Emerald Viewer\GreenLife.exe" --channel "GreenLife Emerald Viewer" --settings settings_emerald.xml -set SystemLanguage en-us
What does yours say about settings?

I use the Linux version, and so far have NO issues, double click tp's work, and I love the login screen where you can choose an alt from a drop down and simply click login, the enhancements are are definite move forward, this viewer is amazing, simply put.

Great work, thanks guys, if your watching, lol.

I D'loaded it last night but didn't install it. I think I'll wait for a day or so now just to see..
I was getting bunches of 'failure to rez object' warnings a few hours ago so I tend to think it's the grid being mostly stoopid, not Emerald.

It's what you see when the female avvies jump up and down :)

The new Emerald is great.

It even includes a 2nd attachment point for every normal attachment point on our avatars except the new attachments will only be views properly in their place if the others around you are using Emerald as well.

The Jiggle tech is nice but it is kinda sucky if you use prim nipples since the boobs move and the nipples are stationary.

I did notice that you can also extend your draw to 1024.

I also noticed that my viewer was a tad bit slower than the previous '673' version.

Nevertheless the newer version is nice. I just wish they started including HELP with the new features.

Oh yeah! Ditto that.

I just downloaded it for the first time last night. Looking through the preferences, I was all, "Wow! Lots of cool-sounding features! Wonder what they do?"

The thing is, on open-source projects, it's easier to find programmers and users than it is to find writers.

Oooh, second attachment points? Missed that one.

Was trying to figure out the built in AO system but it won't accept my notecard.

I started thinking a bit more about the Help and Info... maybe what's needed is a wiki, so that everyone could help document it.

I went to the Emerald Forum to propose it, but couldn't connect! I guess their host can't bear a lot of traffic. I'm going to look for a wiki host. I could put it on my own site, but I'd like to avoid that if I could.

Oh and what is this inventory mirroring thing?
Seems like it saves something to your computer.
So many features on here I wish I knew what they did, a wiki would be an excellent idea!

A few workaround-ish notes:

First login fails: yep, but in return it can remember usernames so you can save some retyping from then on. It giveth and it taketh :p

Forgotten prefs: yep, one I noticed that it wants to force voice on with each login, a quick fix for that one is to pull the Vivox library out of the application folder (not so useful if you sometimes want voice on, though).

AO won't take a notecard: expand the panel with the More>> button, dragging will only work that way.

Inventory mirror in prefs: if you have that turned on in prefs and have set a folder, you can save certain items like notecards and script source from the inventory window. This is a little buggy too, you may have to choose a quick filter that matches the item you want to back up. You will know it worked if you see a blue export message in your chat history. (Doh, forgot to mention, right-click the item and pick Export to use it)

What built in animation over-ride?

How do you access it and what are the limitations on it?

I currently use a huddlez and have 75 stands loaded that randomly cycle every 60second, can Emerald offer me that?

You'll find it under the Emerald menu. It uses 2007-era ZHAO-II style notecards, it doesn't know about extensions from newer variants. In return for the inflexibility it is very smooth in laggy places. It uses a variation of seamless sit which seems to work well.

You set up an inventory folder a little like you would a regular AO object, that is, notecards and animations have to go into the same folder.

Yeah, it has random and timer options, and the other basic ZHAO-II features.

The ZHAO II is limited to 255 characters for reading in the [STAND] line so unless you can rename the animations one will be hard pressed to get 15 stands to load, much less 75.

You can have as many [ Standing ] lines as will fit in memory for the scripted ZHAO-II family, and the viewer won't care much about LSL line limits.

Rhonda, i did 2 things:

- The first time i renamed all my animations a single or double digit character/number.

- The second timei set up myZHAO II card this way:

[Stand ] stand 1
[Stand ] stand 2
[Stand ] stand 3
[Stand ] stand 4
[Stand ] stand 5

------------------------ All the way down to 75 stands. This gets around the 255 character limit per line.

You can also just put 255 characters in each [Stand ] line do it that way.

I just don't know if the Emerald viewer can read a modified animation notecard using the multiple [stand] lines method.

Dashing through the sim
In a one prim sculpty sleigh
O'er the banlines we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on nipples ring
Making facelights bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A SLeighing song tonight

Oh, jiggle boobs, jiggle boobs
Jiggle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to bounce
On a one prim sculpty sleigh
Jiggle boobs, jiggle boobs
Jiggle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to bounce
In a one prim sculpty sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated on my lap
The horse was a Linden alt
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a griefed sandbox
And then we got up tossed

Oh, jiggle boobs, jiggle boobs
Jiggle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to bounce
On a one horse open sleigh
Jiggle boobs, jiggle boobs
Jiggle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to bounce
In a one prim sculpty sleigh

Jiggle boobs, jiggle boobs
Jiggle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to bounce
In a one prim sculpty sleigh
Jiggle boobs, jiggle boobs
Jiggle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to bounce
In a one prim sculpty sleigh
