OK so what is a Neko

lol, tell that to the gun-and-knife-toting faction...and there are some vampire Nekos as well. We come in many, many varieties, and a few are quite bloodthirsty.

Just coming at end of this thread BUT I am Neko and consider myself a sexual Neko. Predatory but eager to please. I wear a full skin. But "True" Nekos (like me, I feel) are becoming rare. The philosophy of openness and sensuality is being replaced by newbies who see the skins as fashion statements rather than lifestyles. Being neko is really an enlightning experience as one learns to "give" oneself freely. The sexuality is a means to understand one's body. But we can also be violent and rebellious. Nekos are extremists who live on emotional rollercoasters and who attempt to control their emotions but are more often unsuccessful. We are also beautiful and wickedly funny.

I basically read all of the above as "Nekos are a bit slutty. Newb Nekos aren't slutty enough."

Honestly, Jig, every time you trot out the 'True' Neko bit, I roll my eyes. ffs, cats have a myriad of temperaments and personalities - there's no one 'true' way for them to be cats - so why expect it of Nekos?

We can't be unique and independent felines by being exactly the same.

Well said. And not only that but once again lets explore the word neko and its origin if we really want to "get real".

There are many manga and anime where neko are not sexualized. Moonphase, being one, although there is romance, but it's not as a result of Hazuki's nekomimi. And then there's the infamous Loveless, which is essentially an entire cast of neko boys and girls (although, ironically, they lose their ears once they have sex).

Characters in manga, anime and doujinshi (fan comics) can visually "turn neko" temporarily to express a certain aspect of themselves synonymous with a feline aspect which is not necessarily sexual. This happens with characters temporarily becoming chibified dogs too.

However, I will say that I think male neko, found predominantly in the yaoi/boyslove genre tend to be more sexual than gen (apart from het hentai) neko. LOL I suppose this might track with the idea that tomcats are horny all the time, I don't know.

Any way... bottom line... Western culture has embraced the concept of neko and while the roots are Japanese, at the end of the day, like SL, it's all about what we make it and should enjoy it for ourselves as long as we harm no one else.

In SL it seems like a Neko is a "cat person", a hybrid between a feline and a human, with feline ears, a tail, and sometimes whikers. Sometimes Nekos also have skin that resembles thier feline counterparts' fur patterns.

I read somewhere that a "FULL Neko" can transform into an actual cat. I assume they meant the size of a common house-cat.

A Neko in Japanese folklore can also be a good luck charm or an idol, of a beckoning cat...see wikipedia for more info on that!

Before SL I thought a Neko was some sort of Candy.

But, in SL, it is ALWAYS a human behind the kybd. So I can't seem to get twisty about human and furry avies getting together either.
