I'd very much like the ability to sense when I've been disconnected, so I can stop building and copy/paste that brilliant bit of scripting* into notepad before it's lost forever.

well smell is definitely out, I'm willing to bet half my furry friends haven'tbeen bathing regularly =) and having a heightened sensitivity doesn't help
taste would be interesting, but it looses a lot without texture and smell touch is a go, although I think some feedback limitations should be observed for the violent (eg gun happy) and wreckless/careless (eg walking of skyboxs) crowds. to runmy fingers allong the edges ofmetallic wings, feel the breeze in my hair, cuddle up with my furry friends, and feel thepressureand closeness of a hug... I could see people becoming instantly addicted to SL _____________________

chemical senses would probably not be a good idea, imagine self-rep cubes that taste like rotten food, or a farting hud...
touch would be nice, similar to vision, it should not work 100% like the real thing, I mean, unless you got some unconventional display device, you can't really go blind by staring at the brightest that can exist in SL, so the haptic feedback (real, like with a robotic suit or somthing, or simulated, with a more Matrix like approach, doing it directly in the brain) wouldn't be enough to harm (unfortunatly for hearing this isn't somthing all that common, many headphones and speakers people user are more than able to harm the listeners :/ but I also agree that there is quite a bit of need for more sense of humor and common sense people mentioning there are other senses, please tell me which they are so I can evaluate if any of them would be welcome by me |

There are taste simulators: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn4006-virtual-reality-conquers-sense-of-taste.html .
Before simulating a foodstuff, the team first measures and records various phenomena associated with chewing it. One such parameter is the force required to bite through a piece of the food. A thin-film force sensor placed in a subject's mouth records these forces. Biological sensors made of lipid and polymer membranes record the major chemical constituents of the food's taste. And a microphone records the audible vibrations produced in the jawbone while chewing. These parameters serve as inputs to the food simulator. The mechanical part of the simulator that is inserted into the mouth has cloth and rubber covers, mainly for sanitary reasons, and is intended to resist the user's bite in a similar way to the real foodstuff. When someone chews the device, a sensor registers the force of the bite and a motor provides appropriate resistance. To augment the experience, a thin tube squirts a mixture of flavourings onto the tongue. The chemicals stimulate the five basic taste sensations: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami - the taste of monosodium glutamate. Meanwhile, a tiny speaker plays back the sound of a chewing jawbone in the user's ear. I'm getting hungry just reading about it. _____________________

Didn't know monosodium glutamate had a different name from MSG to denote the taste. I learn something new everyday here! Umami actually kind of sounds like a ghetto insult thou

like I said, chemical senses are a bad idea, either you would keep getting chem-griefing with flaming poo bombs and trojan candy that tastes like vomit, or you would get the blue dialog equivalent of "pull my finger"

Touch? No. Ookey. And too many people really would never leave the house again.
I'd say "smell," but kind of the same dilemma, other than the not leaving the house part. A lot of people might go running, if a rank newbie (hee) kept bumping into them, and smelled like B.O. and Cheetos. |

I would like smell, taste or touch....but within limits.
I could easily see people upset over touch, taste and smell griefers attacking the grid. Example: People going to the corner store virtual Bakers and someone forgetting to add sugar and put salt instead of the Chocolate Eclairs. People would whine about paying for Salty Chocolate Eclairs. Or World wide Stink bomb attacks. Going to new Dungeon and some Noob Dom thinking it would be funny instead of doing one sensation to replace it with something the bottom didn't want and hearing so so dom poked me with thumb tacks instead of giving me the fuzzy furry paddle rub down. Worse yet would be when LL servers have glitch and taste sensations get mixed up with one's not asked for or the deleted re-rezz when you're in middle of doing something else not wanting taste people complaining about taste spam. _____________________

touch would be the only one that would make sense to me..and not that silly vibration touch/feel either..........well let me give this more thought here..i may be getting waaaaaay ahead of myself..
no keep that vibration one and improve it while adding other feelies ! seriously touch is probably the next one anyways..feely probes for everyone..or feely patches or even better feely latex body covers so thin it feels like you!!! the first thing i would do is go to a sand box wait for mario to show up then find particle source fly up smile to the source name..rez a bat and *POW!!!* right in the Jibblies. AR me jibbly man cause it was worth it!! ![]() _____________________

The one sense I'd like to have... the ability to reach out and "touch" someone. Preferably in a manner that involves strangling.

wish I had been the one to think of that product, they must be making a mint And, yes, look at the fine print: "In order to use touch you must have one or more touch compatible Xcite toys in Second Life, as well as *an active touch subscription*." Don't pay your xcite bill, they repossess your virtual tonker. _____________________

I am sure lots of ppl did
but I did not and wish I did LOL ahhh all the good ideas are gone by the time I think of them LOL for instance just now, I had an idea for the vampire bloodlines thing... open a blood bank, pay newbs for their blood then sell it to the vamps, at less than what bloodlines does.... until I researched it and found out bloodlines sells it for 80L per liter... (that is if you buy the biggest storage thing) so um yeah.... not worth it LOL _____________________
